This is a brilliant component. But it is developed from a programmers point of view and not a website owners point of view. running websites is an extremely serious business. Registered users should be able to contribute but not have any control over content.

Hence I have the following suggestions:

1. There should be a function to limit section and category to which articles can be submitted e.g. I run a community site in which nothing gets published without editors reading the content. Quality of content can make or break a site. Hence it would be useful if all the articles got submitted to a say - New Articles/ New Articles section/category. The editors can then access New Articles/ New Articles to read all new articles, approve them and publish them in the right sec/ cat combo.

2. All controls like publish date/ unpublish date/ meta's/ access levels should be disabled. This is something editors/ administrators should decide and not a front end user.

Overall excellent idea and component. Few more controls will really make the difference between good and great.

Regards

Royko

I use JSeBlod CCK. I have made a number of article types which any registered user can create. However when I instal this Frontend User Article List - and make a link to 'My content' which a user can click to view their own articles, the link only works for a user with super administrator proviledges.

When a normal registered user clicks the link, they are taken back to the home page (and no list of articles shows!!)

I am not a rookie with Joomla and know that I have set the parameters corrent and made the menu link correctly to Frontend Article List (it works perfectly as long as the person signed in is super admin)- but it is not connecting a user to their articles when the articles are made with JSeBlod CCK!

This component is an excellent example of good organization. It accomplishes a lot in a small amount of space, both in the front end as well as the back administration.

Amazingly easy to configure, too. To set it up, simply create a menu item for the component. The parameters are listed in the menu item. That's it.

What you get is a User Console for the front end, that shows all of the articles that were submitted by the logged in user. They can edit, copy, publish, unpublish their own work, as long as they have Author or Editor privileges on the site.

And, they can create a new article. They can sort their articles by various filters. All of this is presented in a table that's very easy to understand and work with.

This should be part of the Joomla core, IMO.

I just finished building a site for a client and needed to give them access via front end to manage the site, and this came in perfectly! Does everything they need except allowing full deletion of articles. Would like to see that in the next update. Otherwise, this is perfect!

A good around article editor/deleter for the front end. I was original just looking for a way to delete the articles from the front end. But with all the other front end article editing functions neatly tablized in one section is great.
One small thing to suggest is an exit button at the top to take you back to your previous menu before entering F.U.A.L.
A small glitch in the 2.0 version is that going back through the page numbers (prev button too) at the base of the editor doesn't seem to work for me.

This oes everything it says it would, and it's exactly what I needed for my site. I do however have one request.
I have set a different template for my page with the article list, for the sake of clarity for the authors. However, when they click to edit an article or click "add new article," it would revert back to the default template. I just wish there was a way to specify what template you want to use when you are editing an article or adding a new one. Thank you!

Almost the whole back-end article manager in front end for free.

I needed this component to let some users create, delete and sort articles in frontend. It worked as espected.

Should be an official Joomla component.

Thank you for your hard work and making my work easier! I am working on a social networking website for a client of mine and I new the current article management on a front-end user basis was all but non-existent.

I installed and configured the one parameter screen in less than a minute. I also tested the front-end on an administrator user and a author user, both worked perfectly allowing the administrator to find unpublished articles easily and publish them if necessary and the author was not to be able publish their article(as I set it up that way).

Hi,

Is there a way to display the category dropdown list in the mos_category layout?

What i want is the dropdown box to list the category as section name/category name. I think the mos_category type allows to do it. I need to know how to get it working on the extension.

congrats again on a great extension.

I tried to install it. But whatever I try, users cannot publish articles, the options do not show up.

I set the parameters, I made the users author, I set the global configuration.

What did I do wrong?

Hi, Fabulous & useful extension, congrats.
I'm using 2.0b Beta, but some more parms I'd like to see are:

1) "Exclude" Sections or Categories IDs, so users don't necessarily see all your website for editing
- conversely, could be 'include'...

2) Turn off and on the filters as required

3) Default to certain sections / categories if required.

Otherwise, this is so good, straight out of the box, I look forward to full release & it's on my production site!!

Cheers

This is an excellent addition to Joomla's frontend admin interface. It works great out of the box! I no longer have to give publishers access to the backend in order for them to manage a list of articles. I like the fact that authors only see a list of their articles. The ability to show/hide particular columns is very helpful, too.

One feature that I would love to see added is a column for article ordering, like in the backend article manager. Also, article archiving would be useful. A column to toggle whether an article appears on the Front Page would also be great, which is already mentioned in your future feature list.

Lastly, it would be nice to hide articles that are in the trash. This would tidy up the list since typically the desired action is to make the article disappear, but get saved in a recycling bin. Admins could reinstate trashed articles from the backend, or you could make an option to view a trash list from the frontend.

All in all, a great component! Highly recommended for anyone with authors and publishers using the frontend. Many thanks to the developers!

Everything is neatly done and it runs as it should. Easy install and administration.

Just one thing, to the top of glory, is missing. It would be perfect, if the "Show on Frontpage" state could be toggeld as well. I can´t understand, why this isn´t implemented yet, as it would be the logic forthgoing to the backend possibilities.

If somebody knows how to hack this, I would be very grateful, as per now, my (unexperienced) users are asking for it.

Thanks for any feedback!

Shalom,

I too have to put my 2¢ents worth in and say GREAT WORK!!!

I use JoomSEF and it wouldn't let me edit the articles in the front end so I searched around a bit & figured out how to tell JoomSEF to not create SEF for this extension and whalla! it started working.

I look forward to figuring out how to make them work together as this is a much needed extention on my site.

Shalom,
Frank

Hi Frank,
really the FUAL component have never been tested together joomSEF by me.

I hope I´ll have more time this year to work in some improvements to FUAL, and I accept to help to solve it.

Ever since J1.5 came out I have been searching for a replacement for MyContent (hacked) to allow pages to be published from the front end.
This component does the same, and better, straight out of the box.
Thanks very much for this extension!

Words are not enough to praise this component. The simplicity of it and the effectivity makes me choose Joomla for a new site. Else I would go with wordpress, because the default Joomla Front-end article submission system is totally lacking. I wonder why Joomla folks don't make this component core. Thank you again.

Hi sadikb,
Thank you very much for your praise. :D I'm happy that you chose joomla and my component for your website. If you have any suggestion, write me an e-mail.

Its great component and worked from the start. Thanks for making it.

Some of the thing that might be developed in future is for it to work properly with sh404SEF.
When I click edit, it doesn't do anything and returns me to homepage. Had to turn off sh404SEF for that component, but it works and its great!

Another feature which would be good, is for approval, give a notice like an email to managers or admin for article awaiting for approval, would be awesome.

But thanks for the component, its great!
Owner's reply

Hi cashcollector

Thank you for your praise. I haven't much time to test the FUAL component completely, but soon as possible I'll try to fix this problem.

Felipe
