I use this almost every time I log in to tweak the website. You can see all files, easily, and can instantly edit them, rename them, move them, delete them, CHMOD. Simple to upload files, too, especially if you're doing a bunch (e.g., to DOCman). Puts up a little do you really want to do this? warning when deleting. I need this sometimes late at night. No problems with installation or use.

How did I ever run a site without it? by powwowtime, November 22, 2007

Considering what Joomla! normally does to file ownership once it's up and running, editing and updating files can be a real chore on some configurations. joomlaXplorer to the rescue! This is by far one of the best downloads I've found, it makes my job so much easier, all I can say is "Wow"!

This is a good file manager - as a relative newbie to joomla I found installation super simple. It has made managing files a lot easier.
There are probably minor improvements that could be made - I would prefer to see the picture icons replaced with word icons to save having to hover to remember what they do, etc.
I would like to be able to create a directory in the middle of a file move ... rather than having to do it before I move.
Still, beats anything else I have seen and you can't beat the price :)
Thanks to the developer(s)!

joomlaXplorer and PHP 5.2.3 by muddauber, October 6, 2007

Had Xplorer working with my older PHP 4.X on server
but not get all kinds of strict adherance errors
due to my ISP upgrading to PHP 5.2.3
Be sure to check what version of PHP you are using
before you put the time into trying to setup Xplorer.
Works like a charm when the environment suites its
needs. Would like a more notes in the development stage
as to what versions it is working, a more specific
system requirements would help.

best thing I ever did! by theoldfellow, October 2, 2007

I was having trouble with permissions setting of uploads on one host. FTP isn't the easiest interface to fix these sorts of things. joomlaXplorer fixed the whole site in less than an hour. I now find it indispensable.

Solid File Explorer Utility by holdencreative, September 17, 2007

I actually preferred the style and behaviour of the older versions of JoomlaXplorer, but I can see how the current version is more accessible to new users.
Pros : Easy uploading and overwriting, navigation is solid.
Cons : Not much, although loading time can be an issue in some cases (partly a server issue).

It's a good tool. I have a few thousand files I have to host on my site so I think I have find something else. The one folder I need to access, the downloads folder, will not load. It has 516 folders in it so I assume that's the problem because I can open all the other folders.
I would prefer a better layout though. If I need to select a lot of files, clicking all those little check boxes drives me nuts. I also don't like that it uses a bunch of icons and the only way to know what they are is to hover over them. I prefer words, I don't have time to hunt for things. I would also have preferred a .zip file option when downloading. I can't open .tar.gz without downloading additional software so I had to install it to see the files.

see eXtplorer for the new version, much cooler. but this one still gets a 5, it works great from the moment of install. very intuitive. with this, you do not ever need a separate FTP client.

I since this is a "must" on a web site.
It helps managing the site without using FTP even when with FTP you have problems.
The last version allows to set some preferred paths and this is an interesting improvement.

joomlaXplorer was one of my favorite extensions, but it keeps getting better. Adding native FTP support lets me do absolutely anything right from my browser. This extension is the next best thing to have desktop access to the web server, and is far easier to use for most tasks than SSH or SFTP clients.
I recommend this to all site admins, especially if you don't have 100% control over your own servers (for example, because you are using a hosting service).
Note that I have been using this extension for more than a year and have not experienced any security issues due to its installation.
Great job and thanks for making my life so much easier!

The idea and functionality of this extension is great of course. It has given me grief a couple of times to now though:
After uploading files I had a whole site go to 403 forbidden a couple of times because Joomla!Xplorer changed the owner/user of / to root:root, making it inaccessible to anyone else.

This extension really save me a lot of time for file management than ftp client. It also can browse the whole site on the secure-ftp only host. Every joomla site should have this installed.
