The SM2 module does pretty much everything you could want from a newsletter module. The Pros are particularly its handling of mailing lists, letting you use data from Community Builder, the main database and a lot of other components.
A more precise system of filters to help with building lists would be appreciates, including a filter that would allow you to add a particular subgroup to an existing list as a batch. But this is icing on a good cake.
Another possible feature is previewing of the mail message as if seen through webmail clients like hotmail and yahoo, as well as through common local clients like mail and outlook.
I take the time to write this review and make these suggestions, partly due to the extreme usefulness of this component, and partly because I am bowled over by the support.
I have asked some good questions, and also some really dumb ones, and although I sometimes imagine the grinding of teeth from the other end, I always get amazingly clear responses, very fast, often with the support person going in to the back end and spotting things I have overlooked.
The component can be demanding to run, you have to be precise, and be comfortable rooting around in your file system in order to modify the templates, for instance to remove options from the signup form, but this is a pro component, and the effort pays off in the solid functionality it provides. |

I have just today bought and tested this component and feel it is (at least for my needs) the easiest and most complete newsletter component for Joomla 1.5.
After an initial minor installation hitch, which was answered by SM2 support within 10 minutes, everything works smoothly as expected.
The interface is clear and gives a good balance of configurability and simplicity.
Highly recommended in all areas.

We have SM2 installed in a half a dozen specialty sites, and all in all, the product has worked well. Templates are great; content and list selection are a snap.
Minor issues: statistics are inconsistent; bounce management has never worked with gmail.
Support is very responsive. |

I'm from Chile and I bought SM2EmailMarketing 1 year ago. Since this moment that Guys has been improving the component until a level really incredible ... for me, work really fine where every 15 days i'm sending very professionals newsletter. The only thing i want recommend to SM2 is improve the statistics (know where the users are doing clicks etc) ... |

This extension is worth the money. I installed it, configured it, imported the list from my Letterman database, and one hour later - the first newsletter was sent to my 2500 subscribers.
This is the best Joomla Newsletter extension I have used so far. And I have used them all. It allows multiple lists, integrates with Virtuemart, CB, and many more. Here is a developer team that used their brain. For good extensions, I'm willing to pay. I hope they continue the development for all the years to come. |

This is the second time that I’m using the email marketing component offered by SM2Joomla. I was so impressed with the way the component worked my first time for one of my clients that I decided I wanted to use it on our own corporate Joomla site . I had several issues going on at the time that I installed the component with my server, but our team managed to fix those issues since they were actually environment issues more so than anything else. However in the middle of installing the email marketing component, one of our network issues caused the component to install improperly and before we discovered the problem, I submitted a ticket to Tony and his team. Tony reacted immediately, became involved in helping us resolve the issues, and even logged into our Joomla installation and offered us advice that led to the solution for our website.
I would give this component and more so, the support that you get from this top-notched company a ‘5’ out of a possible ‘5’. The product is easy to install, their support rocks, and they will work with you to find solutions to your problems or enhancements. You won’t find a better product anywhere else, and believe me, I looked and read some of the other reviews. If template based email marketing is what you’re looking for to enhance Joomla, Sm2Joomla should be at the top of your list.

This is really a model component when it comes to documentation and intuitive navigation. The component is easy to use and powerful, updates are frequent. Great work! I'm no fan of decrypted files though, it would be perfect if the developers found another solution to protect their work. |

This component is worth the $, even for only 1 install each. Such a HUGE improvement over the stock J! Mass Mail.
The email throttling may be just the trick if you have a longer list (over 1000) and have experienced server timeouts or you'd just like to know not only that they were all delivered, but that some were read, and not only that, you can see SPECIFICALLY who read which one. This is a powerful marketing tool (and there are LOADS of other great features for great-looking email templates, J! users vs. email only lists, create niche lists for good shoppers, etc.).
Tons of features, and it all worked perfect 1st try. Ion Cube was not hard to install at all, and I did it on 1and1 shared hosting, which people have claimed is difficult (not been my experience). Get package, unzip, ftp files to J! root. Done. What was so hard about that?
But wait, it gets better. Plugins for many popular add-ons like CB and VirtueMart. Old emails can be saved and copied modified to test market/save time, emails are archived for viewing on your site (awesome), and best of all, you can use ANY piece of content to create the email content (SUCH an AWESOME feature!). Whole articles with pics embedded/attached, or just a list of intros and "Read more..." links. It can do attachments, as well.
And, last, but not least, it has auto-unsubscribe to make list managment easier and keep you in CAN/SPAM compliance.

I find the extension in it's work good, but the way license works might render it not working without notice. It will check your license against sitename and IP address. But since the IP address might change for many different reasons (ISP change, server change, webhotel change, malfunction..) it can suddeenly just stop working. And you need to open a ticket for that (simple email to support is not enough). That's why the extension is unstable regarding if it will work or not.
Anyway, this seems a good email tool, but be aware it might stop working without notice. Unless they change the licese to check only against domain name, which would be wise move. |

Its a good component works perfect, and has great functionality, but there is no posibility to schedule sending mails at determined time of the day. Could anyone tell me when will this posibility be added, and even if it will be added anytime?
I've been trying to debug this component to check out if i can possibily hack a solution to this and call a php wich will do the job from a cron job, but i couldnt yet figure out how to do so... a lot of mosredirects inside...

I tested several of the popular newsletter programs and purchased SM2 Email Marketing. While I found bugs in most of the packages I tried, SM2 has been very stable.
The support team was excellent and really worked with me to get the system running the way that it needed to. They really went above & beyond the call of duty.
The statistics are very powerful - showing exactly who has and has not opened the messages, plus the usual stats. I especially like the ability to build numerous templates upon which to base the actual messages - a real time saver.
SM2 has clearly made a big investment into market research, product development, testing, and support - it really shows. This is a top notch package. |

You spend 80 bucks and get a license. You then download the component as instructed. Then first thing you try to do is access the settings. You can't because "The file /home/www/yoursite/administrator/components/com_sm2emailmarketing/licence.php has been encoded with the ionCube PHP Encoder and requires the free ionCube PHP Loader to be installed."
This is where you find out you need to jump through a bunch of hoops (downloading additional components from someone else, etc) just to get registered. What a bunch of BS. Save your money and purchase something that is as easy as it advertises. Owner's reply: We have clearly stated in our Requirements section and in our Quick Installation Guide, that ionCube is required.
As with all products that have a Lite version available for download, we recommend downloading the free trial Lite version first to ensure it suites your needs.
If anyone is having issues getting ionCube to load then please log a support ticket with us and we are happy to help. |

I've been really impressed with the ease of use and ease of customisation. Best of all, if you can't find what you need in forums or knowledgebase, the support forum is a great place for very quick answers.
Like any extension, it is at the mercy of any limitations of Joomla (for example, you can't pull out just the user's first name in the mail template as Joomla stores the whole name in one field).
Overall, highly recommended (and this is the first extension I've ever been convinced to buy). |

Very good product for newsletter management. Lots of possibilities to determine which users should get the email/newsletter.
Docu could be a bit better but there's excellent support from SM2. Especially when you buy the product.
