JoomlaMindmap
JoomlaMindmap is a flash based dynamic mind map / sitemap generation tool, which creates nice mind maps from the whole Joomla/Mambo content structure on one page.

Following items of the website will be created as a mind map in realtime from the Joomla/Mambo database:

* Menu items (3 levels)
* Content items
* Static content items
* Archived content items
* Weblinks
* Newsfeeds
* Component items linked to the mainmenu

What you can do with this:

* view, navigate and search through the complete site on one web page
* take it as a sitemap for your web site
* fold and unfold every node
* see how many items exists below a node
* extend it with your own modules (ie. gallery items)
* read the title and meta description of each content entry
* and hop directly to the content item at your website...

Installation notes: JoomlaMindmap is not a module, mambot or component. Simply extract the archive into a directory of your webspace and specify the absolute path to the configuration.php of Joomla into the config.php.

The style of the lines and nodes can be changed via the config.ini. Colors can also be changed for better integration into your site.

Hint: There are other mind map tools available:

JoomlaLinkmap 2 (Joomla weblinks with link submission form to your site): http://www.goermezer.de/webtools/JoomlaLinkmap/
MySQLMindmap (a mind map based database browser): http://www.goermezer.de/test/MySQLMindmap/

little help for installing by gregII, November 22, 2007

First of all: this is a great extension and I thank for Mustafa Görmezer for providing it to the community for free!

I had a problem with installation nad it took me about 20 minutes on the Internet to resolve it. I write this review to save this 20 minutes for others:

As user "guerob" wrote (February 18, 2007) the only key to make it work is to write the "absolute path" in the config.php of the mindmap config file. He is right, but some users still may wonder ho to get this info, since servers are different.

Since I use a service provider for my website, it was not trivial for me how to get it. This is what you need to do: 1. Login as Admin into your joomla admin site.
2. Go to the Site -> Global Configuration menu
3. Click on the "Server" tab.

Here in the first row you will find the Absolute path,
that you need to insert into the mindmap config.php.

After this , mindmap works like a dream.

(Later I found this info at Mustafa's homepage, but it is written in german, so this review still may help some users.)

Thanks Mustafa, please keep improving this great extension! Greg

Very good but by ChrisVaughan, September 10, 2007

Great tools - works well except for two issues.
Some of the links from the map have an incorrect link with item with a lowercase I rather than Item and hence the link fails.
Secondly it would be good to to see the menu structure/static content shown
otherwise great tool

GREAT idea, NOT ready for primetime use by iggy22, June 2, 2007

This extension is such an excellent idea. However there are 2 problems I'm currently having.

1) An older version (1.8) works like a champ once the absolute path of the Joomla site is entered into the config.php file. Not so with the latest version (2.1.1). I'm still trying to figure out the difference. I can point version 1.8 to a site and up it comes. When I point 2.1.1 to it (with the correct info in the config.php file) all I get is the "undefined" bubble and nothing else. I'll post again if I sort out that problem.

2) This extension will NOT work with any SEO features enabled. It attempts to go to links based on the non-SEO structure of Joomla content. Turn on SEO or add an extension like OpenSEF and this very cool site map is rendered useless.

I'd love to see an SEO-enabled version of this. I'd pay for it! It's such a cool site map when it works.

If you don't use SEO, you simply cannot beat this very very cool site map.

To 2) No SEO kind of URLs were removed to provide better compatibility. Now it is not needed to deactivate Joomla`s SEO functionality.

Very nice but no SEO by keveen, May 31, 2007

I tested this program some time ago and it worked very well before I installed SEO scripts. I can still see the site structure but the program is reading the old style numerical urls instead of the new user-friendly ones created by the SEO program and consequently I can't use the link to locate the linked file! So for site visitors the program is only useful when you have SEO OFF. Otherwise it will confuse them into thinking your site is broken. Apart from that it is a very nice alternative way of viewing site content. Can't wait for an SEO version.

Owner's reply:
Now it works with SEO=on.

MindMap = undefined by guerob, February 18, 2007

I installed JoomlaMindMap and I am just getting "undefined" as the MainTopic with no branches or subtopics... I am wondering why this might be ? any hints someone could suggest ?

Edit/update: am the one who made this review and I have found the answer to getting "undefined" as the Main Topic problem... it is that one must specify in the config.php file teh the absolute path as such:

// CONFIG SECTION

// Please specify the absolute path to the joomla configuration file (configuration.php):
$joomla_config_file = '/home/www/my_site.com/my_joomla_folder/configuration.php';

After that everything works fine...

Excellent by velonis, September 8, 2006

I was using VYM to create the mindmap of freemindmaps.net which takes much time since everything is made manually. Furthermore I had to manually remove/modify some parts of the result.

This tool works great. In the configuration can be added something like "Content items folded on" so that the user can search by himshelf.

One bug is that it doesn't use the default path of Joomla but this can be corrected.

Looks good by j0nnnnn0, August 30, 2006

Just to comment on the previous post: Yuppie may be German but has give me INSTANT support in English, before writing a comment do think and ask...

JoomapMindmap works well, support for 3rd Party SEF is missing but should not deter you from testing it. I am sure that Yuppie will come up with a solution soon.

Very easy, very cool, but... by gdpodesta, August 29, 2006

Installed and ran this very easily, but the results that it yields are incomplete. Only 3 of my 5 published sections show up, and a subset of published categories and content items. Couldn't request support since I don't speak German. I have a several hundred pages of content, so perhaps some glass ceiling is being reached (?) Either way, if you can get it to work, it looks like it's pretty nice!

Owner's reply:
This was a bug and is solved in the newest version.

Ok, now the center map includes the sites domain name instead of the credit.

Have fun...

Interesting piece of software by micoots, August 28, 2006

Does exactly what it's supposed to do.

After extracting, copying and configuring, I created a menu item to open in a new browser window. Worked fine and gives an interesting look to the content of the site.

The thing two things I didn't like about it were the centre of the mindmap saying "Generated by MamboMindmap" and the top left saying "This sitemap was generated by JoomlaMindmap".

I don't mind so much the "advertising" but I do mind it when I can't easily turn it off without hacking code. The option to turn off these or rename them should be part of the config.

Other than that, it seems like a nice way to view the sitemap.

Owner's reply:
The center of the map now shows the Site title and url of the website.
