Seems to work well so far... by gadabout, October 5, 2007

My site isn't too big, and doens't have tons of URLs, so, at least so far, it seems to be working really well. It's also the first one that has worked. I've tried several others that were on here and they just wouldn't work. This one works with my regular site, iJoomla magazine, and also with virtuemart. All seems good.
The only issue I had was that after I installed it my main domain wouldn't forward to iJoomla anymore when prior it had. I finally fixed that issue though, here is how (in case you have the same issue):
I had the JOOMLA front page on my main menu and my top menu. In both I had put the iJoomla as the first item. But, I don't even use the main menu. I only use the top menu on my site.
I had moved the iJoomla up to the number 1 postion on both those menus anyhow, and made it my homepage in the iJoomla configuration.
But, still, if I typed in www.homepageexample.com/home then iJoomla came up, and if I typed in www.homepageexample.com/ then the regular JOOMLA frontpage came up...I couldn't figure out why, and then I did...
I had unpublished the regular JOOMLA front-page from my top menu, as I use that menu on my webpage. And, then, on that menu only the iJoomla was published.
But...I hadn't done that on my main menu, as I don't even use the main menu on my website. I didn't know it would matter since I don't use that menu at all anywhere. I only use the top menu. So while the regular front page was unpublished on my top menu (which I use) it was still published to my main menu (which I don't use).
So, I just went in and saw that on the main menu the regular JOOMLA front-page was still published (though it was #3 down the list, and iJoomla was the first item on that list...but both were published on that list).
So, I unpublished it, and voila! No problem anymore.
I hadn't realized that would cause an issue, particularly considering I don't even use the main menu. I only use my top menu. I guess one just has to check all their menus, whether they're using them or not, and 'unpublish' the front-page option, and to move the iJoomla into the first postion...even if they're not using that menu...

Great Support and Easy to use and develop sef_ext files by machadoug, September 28, 2007

Support is awesome!
David from Artio has helped me a lot and very quickly. I was amazed because he didn't care if I had bought his extension or downloaded for free. The support was efficient and replied quickly...
I used to install OpenSEF in my sites, however it has three issues:
1 - OpenSEF + MTree issue: All Brazilian Portuguese special chars didn't get the equivalent English char, so in the url "ç" becomes "%e7", NOT sef at all :(. JoomSEF works with the special chars out of the box... Now with JoomSEF "ç" becomes "c"... AWESOME!!!
2 - Writing the sex_ext.php: That was so annoying! In my opinion it is much easier to write the com_component.php files in the JoomSEF style!
3 - Every time I installed a new extension I had to configure openSef in order to start making the URLs SEF. JoomSEF is automatic.
Thanks Artio.

The good and the bad by mantis_108, September 10, 2007

The good news is that the new 2.1.1 version fixes most of the ills (and issues I had) with the previous 1.x versions, including multiple URLs, www. vs no www. in the URLs going to different places, etc.
The bad news is that trying to upgrade my 1.x install to 2.1.1 completely blew up and forced me to completely ruin my SEF URL database and subsequently have to uninstall 1.x, fresh install 2.1.1, and re-enter all SEF URLs and customizations by hand.
At the end of that, we're happy with the new version. The extra work due to the failed upgrade wasn't so fun, however.

Incredible Product! by visualvendetta, August 6, 2007

This is the only SEF that works with MOSETS Tree. And believe me I tried almost all of them out there for JOomla. After hours and hours of messing around with other products. It was a Godsend to finally discover this one. It really works with Mosets Tree

it's not fair because there is no warning : the virtuemart plugin was free. if you update joomsef, the plugin does not work and you must pay for the new one. and if needed paying more for joomsef itself...I restored my whole website because I felt blackmailed : "pay or do again your whole refencement !"

Bad for SEO by ndastur, July 29, 2007

As previous post say this extension adds ads and additional junk meta tags to the html output of your site.
I have no objection to the author making some money from their efforts, but this extension is specifically to improve SEO. So putting in code that worsens SEO is the reason I have given it such a bad rating.
I hope the author reconsiders the decision to add these extras bits of code.

Mambot has big problems with title by godyn, July 25, 2007

I really liked this extension. Untill I started updating since 1.5.0 The title and meta tags were gone. Also in the custom redirects. This was a real loss for my site. I spent months on preparation and editing to keep my good static html results (I upgraded my html site to joomla) and since the update it was all lost. They went from 1.5.1 to 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 but the problem persist and several forum topics and updates later nothing changed. Please ARTIO, do s.th. about it. Advice:stick with 1.5.0 component and 1.3 metabot

I have just tried the new release and it seems to be much better than the previous ones. (anyway in my opinion, the previous versions were quite okay also)
Now, with the new one, it generates the URLs just as I want and after a while playing with setting, there are almost no duplicates at all! Thanks for this component!

THe enthusiasts of this products don't are really interested in positioning their site in search engines.
I was a SEO newbie when installing this product.
The continuous generation of redirects appending the -1.html -2.html etc. etc. the continuous PERMANENTLY MOVED destroyed the ranking of my sites.
The pages NEVER HAVE THE SAME NAME. So you are continuously creating duplicate content for the search engines.
Try googling "SEO duplicate content"
This has really damaged my work.

Artio is deadly for SEO by webbonheur, June 27, 2007

Artio put me straight into Goole sandbox by creating duplicate URLs for the same content. I can't believe it is considered as hot.
I used the paid version and the support was incomprehensible. I'm not a programmer so I was not able to understand anything they told me.
I've wasted weeks, maybe months because of their piece of software. Furthermore, it slowed down my website a lot.
I feel it made me loose money because my website could have never gotten indexed using Artio.
It's worse than bad.

Lots of Potential, Poorly implemented. by insideoutweb, June 25, 2007

Pros: Promises everything you need to make a Joomla site search-engine friendly.
Cons:
1. Big bug in latest version (1.5.1): Can't create your own meta titles and descriptions! Supposed fix in forums doesn't work.
2. Documentation ranges from incomprehensible to incorrect.
3. Big problem with unique Page IDs. You'll probably end up with a zillion numbered URL versions of each page. And if you're using dynamic menus, you never know which of those URLs will end up as your link. This is deadly for search engine placement! It's a moving labyrinth of a site map. What a nightmare.
4. Poor support in the forums. To this point I can't even get anyone to answer a question. This is in contrast to my experience with excellent support for other extensions, such as Virtuemart and Extended Menu.
To sum up: Don't use it! Try anything else first.

Ok listen up, iv now brought two components for sef, one $40 and another $25, and both times they were limited and buggy.
I always thought sharware would be much better but this is not the case, this is by far the BEST sef component out!
Docman, SMF, even my custom components all worked, the links were remade into user friendly ones, with a few clicks.
I still realy cant belive it, iv sent $50 through paypal to thank the makers, as this realy is worth it.
