AJAX Header Rotator for flash-like image rotation!
*** NOW updated to version 2.3 (see changelog below) ***

The "AJAX Header Rotator" module offers a smart and eye-candy image rotating mechanism (or slideshow in plain English) for the masses! It is an alternative to Flash image rotation scripts, which are sometimes difficult to implement. The module borrows the nice effects from such scripts, but uses javascript (the JQuery library in particular) to auto-"magically" rotate images from any given folder!

It's actually a simple to use module, which adds to the overall look of your Joomla! website.

Check out a demo at http://demo.joomlaworks.gr or at http://www.clipart.gr for a real world example!

If you want to show your support please rate and comment on the Module, here, in the Joomla! Extensions website.

The "AJAX Header Rotator" Module for Joomla 1.0.x is released under the GNU/GPL license. Have fun!

*************************************************
*** Version 2.3 Changelog (January 6th, 2007) ***
*************************************************
- Minor code fixes (for more "strict" server setups).
- Fixed the "bullet" issue, occuring in some users' websites (due to CSS conflicts with their template).
Enjoy!

***************************************************
*** Version 2.2 Changelog (December 15th, 2006) ***
***************************************************
- Minor bug fixes.
- Now the AJAX Header Rotator can display without conflicting with other javascript libraries, like Mootools, Moo.fx, Prototype etc. The only thing you need to do is move the script call to jquery.js in your template.
- You can now choose to enable/disable the "master" link of the rotating images.
- If you enable the "master link", you can now choose if it will open in a new or the same page.
- The "cannot redeclare..." error appearing in some server setups is fixed.

**************************************************
*** Version 2.0 Changelog (December 4th, 2006) ***
**************************************************
- Added the ability to have multiple instances of the "AJAX Header Rotator" module in the same page. That means you can rotate images in different module positions, on the same page, something that was not possible with the previous version of the module! You obviously need to insert different IDs for each module instance!
- Added a "master" link to the rotating images (per rotator instance, of course). Useful when you want the user to click on the rotator and get redirected to e.g. the "products" page.
- Added width and height definitions for images being rotated.
- Added the ability for the user to select the display order of the images being rotated (in sequence or randomly).
- Now using JQuery.
- Updated documentation to reflect new changes and additional credits/copyrights.

****************************************************
*** Version 1.1 Changelog (September 23rd, 2006) ***
****************************************************
Today we are releasing version 1.1 of the "AJAX Header Rotator" Module. This new version fixes some styling options and also we have corrected the issue of empty "slides", caused when other non image files exist in the same directory where the images (for rotation) are stored. Such files could be thumbs.db (generated on windows machines) or just the index.html file generated from Joomla's Media Manager.

Wow soooo simple! by dynamicus, February 5, 2008
I was using another flash type header and it broke when I moved my site to a new server. Couldn't get it to work. I had a similar problem when I first installed it and forgot how I resolved it. I had some really cool pix for the headers and really missed them because they added a lot of colour to the site.

I didn't know what to do then suddenly thought about just getting another header rotator. I was a bit anxious about whatever I installed because I didn't want another bad experience.

Well I needn't have worried - I had the module installed and running in under 5 minutes. Just pointed at my image folder and that was that!

Great job - thank you for an excellent product

Nice, simple and clean with some minor compatibility issues by NFG, January 24, 2008
This is very easy to install and use.
It's light on excessive chrome and unneeded features.
It simply does what it says and does it nicely.
Users should be aware that it breaks if you link to prototype in your template, and disagrees with the JCE utilities plugin for JCE Editor.

With this installed you may find that you have to use JQuery for any fancy .js you have planned.

If you don't need these things then go to it.

IE6 a problem, but otherwise easy to use by Timeforsmilin, December 5, 2007
No problem with styling or layout controls through CSS. Works with Opera and Firefox for XP and openSuse, plus IE7, but doesn't rotate the image for IE6 users like was mentioned before. Other than that, it's real easy to use!

Great work, Easy Install, a few defects! by menshawy, December 1, 2007
Thanks! That is a masterpiece.. thank you very much!

It was so easy to install.. easy to configure.. and adds wonderful feature to your website...

I have only 3 notes, that should be fixed, or to tell us how to fix them:
1- The header shows up to the left, so how can we set its align to the center?
2- The mouse-over tip, displays: Joomla Works Ajax Header Rotator, that's really irrelevant to the Module's job, which is displaying a 's header!! So how come it displays something different?!
3- It causes troubles with some Image Galleries, and let's hope this conflict is fixed soon.

Thanks again! Recommended, unless you don't care much for point 1 and 2.

Keep it up! :)

It doesnt work in IE6 by jbudd, October 15, 2007
Only the first image is shown in Internet Explorer 6.
The "real life example" www.cinemad.gr actually uses Simple Image Rotator

Great module for smooth changing modules by jackbremer, September 20, 2007
Wow! Easy to install, customise etc. No more relying on custom hard code, flash, etc - works and blends smoothly in all the browsers I've tried!

One thing I noticed is that the blend colour (between images) is picked up from the colour of the table cell it sits in (e.g. for black images, one a white table, you get a flash of white between images) - to fix, just change the background of the table cell to a suitable neutral colour, appropriate to your selection of images. Perhaps adding a fade colour choose would be a good improvement.

Super by buddha, June 25, 2007
The banner really gives our site a special and wonderful and professional look as the top head banner. It was simple to set up with one glich, yet the techs quickly responded and I was able to get the banner working after that.

Solved my Flash Rotator woes! by mikecotton, June 12, 2007
I set up a site that needed to use several image rotators on separate pages. I downloaded and installed the Flash Rotator, got it set up, but then noticed that when I went to the separate pages, the same photos would appear.

UGGH!! It was the cache!!!

I then installed the AJAX Header Rotator, and within 30 minutes, all my image rotators were replaced and working perfectly!!

Thanks for a great module!!!!

Powerful simplicity by thinkart, May 7, 2007
I really like this extension. Simple to install, simple to manage and adjust, great output - and for free! I´m saying it after trying many other options. This one "takes it all".
To make the extension even better I would suggest two things:
- ability to addjust alignment within the module position (just like in the SlideShow extension by Lady-Beetle: left, center, right) - now aligned left by default.
- to make the slideshow hold the image if the next is not loaded yet (for those with slow connection). Now a blank page with the name of the module shows up.

But as said before: GREAT extension! Works well with IE7, Opera 9.01, FireFox 2.0.
Keep up the great work!

Can be better ! by julbme, April 26, 2007
I tested with 10 small pictures (200*150) with a slow internet speed (56kb) and pictures doesnt appear properly.
It should be great to have a better cache performance before rotate pictures...
Good work !

Quick, Easy, Hassle Free by Juggler, April 11, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
I wanted a simple and straightforward way of display some of my customers logos on the site in random order. This should be maximum compatibility, so no flash and should include fade transitions on both IE and Firefox. I fiddled around with a variety of extensions, some with considerably more options - RSGallery2, SmoothGallery etc. However, some needed additional lines installed in the template index.php file; others had many additional options I didn't need. Ajax Header Rotator worked straight out of the box with very little effort to install and setup. I would recommend you preprocess your images to all be the same size (so don't require online on-the-fly resizing/shaping) - because my input files were of different sizes and aspect ratios, this would not have worked well with any of the packages I tried. I used Irfanview which could have batch processed the files if they were of the same input size, or manually for each image. It seems to work OK with about 30 random images - I think more would impose longer load times on the page initially but haven't confirmed this. There appears to be no conflict with JRE Caching either.

So full marks to Joomlaworks for an excellent and free addition to the extensions piece. Simple, easy to install, "does what it says on the tin."

it is very good but a single problem by raul7, March 12, 2007
Hi, its very easy to install and configure.

Problem :
All images have to be linked to one location, i use this to rotate different banners on my site, promoting different product, each banner needs to be linked to a different location , that was the only reason i un-installed this mod.

This extension is awesome by koch, March 12, 2007
I have just added this extension to my website and I am very happy with the results.

However I have also added "simple image gallery". This is causing me some issues with header rotator stop functioning. Might be some javascript being called before something else fires ups.

Either way, very please with joomlaworks efforts.

Great Module - looks fine by webchem, March 7, 2007
This is a fantastic module that works well, sadly when I went to test it withe IE7 there are some alignment issues.

I need to spend some time playing with the css code of my template to fix this - something I didn't really want to do. But all things considered this is a great module.

Nice one!!
