AJAX Header Rotator for flash-like image rotation!
*** NOW updated to version 2.3 (see changelog below) ***

The "AJAX Header Rotator" module offers a smart and eye-candy image rotating mechanism (or slideshow in plain English) for the masses! It is an alternative to Flash image rotation scripts, which are sometimes difficult to implement. The module borrows the nice effects from such scripts, but uses javascript (the JQuery library in particular) to auto-"magically" rotate images from any given folder!

It's actually a simple to use module, which adds to the overall look of your Joomla! website.

Check out a demo at http://demo.joomlaworks.gr or at http://www.clipart.gr for a real world example!

If you want to show your support please rate and comment on the Module, here, in the Joomla! Extensions website.

The "AJAX Header Rotator" Module for Joomla 1.0.x is released under the GNU/GPL license. Have fun!

*************************************************
*** Version 2.3 Changelog (January 6th, 2007) ***
*************************************************
- Minor code fixes (for more "strict" server setups).
- Fixed the "bullet" issue, occuring in some users' websites (due to CSS conflicts with their template).
Enjoy!

***************************************************
*** Version 2.2 Changelog (December 15th, 2006) ***
***************************************************
- Minor bug fixes.
- Now the AJAX Header Rotator can display without conflicting with other javascript libraries, like Mootools, Moo.fx, Prototype etc. The only thing you need to do is move the script call to jquery.js in your template.
- You can now choose to enable/disable the "master" link of the rotating images.
- If you enable the "master link", you can now choose if it will open in a new or the same page.
- The "cannot redeclare..." error appearing in some server setups is fixed.

**************************************************
*** Version 2.0 Changelog (December 4th, 2006) ***
**************************************************
- Added the ability to have multiple instances of the "AJAX Header Rotator" module in the same page. That means you can rotate images in different module positions, on the same page, something that was not possible with the previous version of the module! You obviously need to insert different IDs for each module instance!
- Added a "master" link to the rotating images (per rotator instance, of course). Useful when you want the user to click on the rotator and get redirected to e.g. the "products" page.
- Added width and height definitions for images being rotated.
- Added the ability for the user to select the display order of the images being rotated (in sequence or randomly).
- Now using JQuery.
- Updated documentation to reflect new changes and additional credits/copyrights.

****************************************************
*** Version 1.1 Changelog (September 23rd, 2006) ***
****************************************************
Today we are releasing version 1.1 of the "AJAX Header Rotator" Module. This new version fixes some styling options and also we have corrected the issue of empty "slides", caused when other non image files exist in the same directory where the images (for rotation) are stored. Such files could be thumbs.db (generated on windows machines) or just the index.html file generated from Joomla's Media Manager.

Excellent!!! by foof132, March 1, 2007
Installed it, read the instructions... works perfectly!
Thanks for a great extension!

very very good, but crash on ie7? by lbo, February 27, 2007
this extension and other from the same source worked for me really fine and installed like a breeze. I am just delighted with them.

anyway it seem they crash ie7, at last some previous version. any hint about this? I'd like to have reported this on a more suitable place, like a forum etc., but I did not find it.

anyway, the extensions work extremely well on firefox and ie6.

if only people could choose a decent browser...

Quick add and clean! by Pragmatist, February 20, 2007
In general this is a good product, and will quickly get rotating images almost anywhere in any module position. The only glitch I have encountered is that when placed into a position under several of the Rockettheme templates directly underneath the top menu, the dropdowns will be covered up by the rotator. Simple enough to fix.

Very Good Extension by ken264usd, February 2, 2007
1. Easy to install
2. Documentation was good
3. Was up and running within a few minutes.
Thanks for the great extension!

Great Module: Customizable! by terryking, January 31, 2007
I am using multiple copies of this module to have customized 'slide shows' in the headers of my school site pages:
http://acst.net/newsite (Activities>Sports) for example.

Had to modify the header.css to position and size #top but that's to be expected I think.

PROBLEM: Very slow to load a page the first time as it downloads all the slideshow folder contents, BEFORE the rest of the page's images. Could it be arranged to load it's images AFTER the rest of the page??? Of course I got carried away with the number of images :-)

Works fine but... by drnibbles, December 27, 2006
I'm running this at the moment however I relised that some images in my folder was missing in the module. Just realised that if the image is names something.JPG (capitals) then it won't be picked up by the AJAX module. The images have to be names something.jpg (not captial ext)and it works. This is just slightly annoying..

Fixed in version 2.3! ;)

Bullet-problem remains in version 2.2 by huub, December 22, 2006
Overall this was/is a very nice module. I downloaded the new version 2.2 from the developers website because it should solve the "bullet-problem" (a bullet appearing before the image) but unfortunatly it didn't solve the problem.

If I find the solution I will let you all know :)

AJAX Header Rotator Works. Be patient. by draudia, December 21, 2006
Excellent support by the author. This component installs very easily! It plays well with FF2 and the transitions are very nice and smooth. Try updating to the latest version just released a few days ago. It does take some tweaking to work with IE but I am confident I will get it up. I will post again shortly and give the nitty gritty. Way to go Fotis Evangelou!

Works like charm by sjsmit, December 13, 2006
I'm quite new to Joomla, but I managed to get the AJAX Header Rotator (v2.0) to work in a short time and it does what it claims.

Like '911' noted earlier, it would be even nicer when the 'random rotation' not only showed the pictures in a random order, but also _started_ with a random image on a page reload or a new page. As far as I can see it now always starts with the first image available in the image folder and from then on rotates in a random order (when in 'random' mode).

Keep up the good work!

Good script by Pixelrage, December 8, 2006
An excellent achievement, unfortunately it is a little useless due to the fact that you can't assign links to the images.

Owner's reply:
You can assign a global link to some URL, but assigning specific links to images would consider changing the whole concept of the module and switching to a component (if we want to maintain the same simplicity)!

does not play nice with IE by lcmoya, December 6, 2006
1 of 3 people find this review helpful:
The module was easy to install, and worked like a charm with firefox, but became unaligned within IE.

Owner's reply:
This is like saying "why don't all extensions fit my template"? Our extensions are really plug-n-play but sometimes the user needs to adjust their template's CSS file, too!

Pretty Unhappy with it by hyperactive, November 26, 2006
Whats great about the module?

1. Very easy installation
2. it does as indicated and does rotate any images put into its folder.

Several problems and short comings with this module.

1. When using non-default layouts or custom templates, the module displays the banners in the incorrect location. Well it displays it where the "header" module is located on a stock install of Joomla, but not in the "header" module position if you've moved it. Hence you end up with banners where they are not supposed to be.

2. Who would create a great advertising and navigation tool like this and not build in the capability to make the rotating images linkable?

Anyway, i am not flaming, just submitting my pros and cons.

Owner's reply:
Both requests are addressed in version 2.0!

This Module Rocks by dacdac, November 24, 2006
I have used this on my site and it works a treat. It is good to know that the author is very responsive to questions on the joomla forum.
Would like to see the ability to use it more than once on a site and to links on the images.

Owner's reply:
This feature has been added in version 2.0. Users can now have multiple instances of the "AJAX Header Rotator" module in a single page!

Perfect except a glitch by Alek, November 18, 2006
The results is fabulous.
But the system can't "stwitch it off". Once on the frontpage, it comes up over all the pages of my site. Eventhough I've assigned it to the Home Page only!
Hyperlinks will be great.
Thank you

Nice Module by siersema, November 12, 2006
Excellent implementation. Needs to allow more than one per page and hyperlinks associated with the images.
