The Unregister component is a Joomla plugin that allows users on a site to unregister themselves from that site. An associated module puts a link on the sidebar that gives users access to this component.

No need for module by phleum, March 19, 2008
This component seems to do what it says it will flawlessly. I here there are issues with Community Builder (which I use) leaving junk in the database. For now I can deal with that. I just wanted to note that you don't NEED the module- just create a menu item in a member menu that links to the component. That works better for me in my already cluttered layout.

Nice suggestions by gerrit_hoekstra, May 21, 2007
Works exactly as stated, and nothing more. This will make the component a real boon:
1. On unregistering, this component could (optionally) send a goodbye email.
2. The Admin should be able to edit the goodbye message to suit.
3. Users are also referenced in components such as Contacts, Letterman etc. It would be real nice if these references were removed un unregistering, too.
4. When passwords-save is enabled on browsers, the password field is filled with asterisks giving the false impression that the user does not need to enter a password.

Is Ungregister DANGEROUS ? by pintobuck, April 13, 2007
Installed without problems. It does let users unregister thenselves quickly and easily. All record of them is deleted from Joomla User Manager. Without Administrator approval, the user becomes anonymous.

Consider that this might encourage users to wreak some havoc before they unregister and become anonymous.

Feature suggestion: Admin Approval before unregistered user records are deleted. A confirmation email would help to dispell the user's impression of anonymity.

not so good by sm@rt, February 14, 2007

I use Community Builder on my website, if a user delete his account the unregister component don`t delete the photos from the cb_gallery plugin.

Basic - works. by LindsayWard, February 14, 2007
This seems to work well.
I'd like to be able to customise the messages that the component produces (like explaining what unregistering does and saying farewell), but otherwise it's just simple and easy.

Incredible... by jdude, November 3, 2006

I manage a very busy community site with hundreds of members and this is a "must have" for any site like mine. I've installed it in seconds and it is working like a charm sparing me from doing the extra work of tending to members who'd like to leave my site.

Keep up the grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat work. :))

Works like a charm! by danceswithlife, October 11, 2006
It's important that Users can unRegister from a site just as easily as they can register.

Mike Noel has brought to the community an important component that meets this 'unRegister' requirement.

But it doesn' end there. Developer support is awesome and prompt!

Thanks Mike, and looking forward.

Great, just what i needed. by MikaelJensen, October 8, 2006
The component works like a charm, and is easy to translate!

good idea by baijianpeng, September 8, 2006
Yes we really need such a tool to offer extra option for users. This one is good. But it should be developed further to support multilanguage so that it can be used widerly.

Works pretty smoothly. Checked the DB for accuracy and it deleted the user record when password entered correctly and displays a "unregistered" meddage. However, when password entered incorrectly, got a screen message which just said "new" with no link. I'll have to loof further, but if you need/want users to have a unregister option as I do, this does the trick. Thanks.
