A powerful banner advert management system! You can add banners for new clients or links from one screen - no more multi-step banner adding. You can also restrict banners to particular articles, categories or sections, as well as all the default Joomla restrictions (using the itemid system). It also works well with Google AdSense code - copy the Google code into the custom code box, and it just works!

Flash banners are supported as of version 0.4. The Flash support is not 100% complete in the admin system, but it is running very well on the server I admin. The only other thing is to ensure you have given each module that could show a SWF banner on any given page a unique class suffix, else you will get only one Flash banner appearing.

The minimum requirements for FlexAdvert are PHP 4.3 and MySQL 4.0, although full featureset requires MySQL 4.1. This is because the system makes extensive use of subqueries, and earlier versions of MySQL don't have subquery support. Earlier versions of PHP may work, but I've not tested the system on them. The system has been tested using PHP 5.1.2 and MySQL 5.0.18, with Redhat security patches applied, and works perfectly. Joomla 1.5 support will be implemented when it comes out of beta.

Size detection has been removed, as it was causing problems. You can now select the desired size from a drop down, and it will use the dimensions for that size with whatever image you select. This may result in squashed or stretched banners, but they won't extend into the rest of your page and mess up your layout.

Versions prior to 0.3 had a few potential clashes with other components. Hopefully these are now fixed, but if you come across any, please let me know. Version 0.5 had a editing bug which was fixed in the 0.5.1 release (about 12 hours after 0.5 release). If you downloaded the file com_flexadvert0.5.zip, grab the com_flexadvert0.5.1.zip file, and upload the changed files to the administrator/components/com_flexadvert folder.

Solid Component by holdencreative, December 30, 2007
FlexAdvert has a lot options - and while the interface and behaviour of the component isn't perfect - it is the best I've found so far for banner/ad management.

The ability to determine which ads will show in which sections, categories, or articles is a BIG plus - since with many other advert systems (BannersManager et al.) - you would have to copy modules, reconfigure, and repeat.

No ad component seems to handle Flash perfectly yet, but they're working on it, and the component is solid.

Excellent component by kylebrown, November 28, 2007
Does exactly what it says, upload banners and display in site modules. The only issue I had was you have to enter the location number on the site module. Once you do that, banners are displayed.

The only suggestion I have is the ability to rotate between multiple banners in a single location would be very useful. It might do this, I just don't see where to configure rotations in a single location.

Great job! Highly recommended.

few bugs by control, September 21, 2007
works great expect for when you set the banner to just appear on a select section I get an error message instead. And thats the only reason I downloaded this module was for that feature

Thanks by bobwebb, August 6, 2007
Installation was straightforward and once you get your head around it admin is simple too.

Does exactly what it claims and support is fantastic! I had a couple of minor niggles of my own making and got solutions straight away.

If you want something to give easy control over banners try this.

Great! by lancert, July 15, 2007
This is a VERY powerful and flexible extension! If you use banners on your site, you need this extension! Be sure to follow the tutorial on the developers site to get the most out of this:

Great module, Impressions? by rteeples, June 21, 2007
I use this module and it does everything I need it to do, including rotating multiple banners in a single module position.

My only question is regarding how it counts ad impressions. It's count is significantly lower (about half) of what I see in my analytics package. I wonder if this has to do with reloading the template on each click.

confusing by joarvat, May 1, 2007
Unfortunately after much trying I just had to give this one up. Would have been great if it worked. There is not much help or instructions on how to set this up. I never managed to get my advert to a state where it was classed as "finished", and there is no explanation of what this means. I tried everything I could think of, but sorry, I think this needs more work.

Strange versions by intersol, March 29, 2007

After a week the module doesn't work anymore.
Strange: the latest version available in joomlaforge is 0.5.1 but installing it will report it as 0.2. Also on author website the lastest reported is 0.2 and there is no forum for it. Just think about that :(

Owner's reply:
If it's not working after a while of working, you've changed something in your settings - strangely enough, the code will continue doing exactly what it was doing before!

Also, if you look on the Components section of the Joomla forums, you'll find that all questions asked are responded to as soon as I see them, and I also respond to email enquiries. In my opinion, it is better to keep Joomla related enquiries in one location, rather than end up trekking across the net to forums for each component.

Great Idea, Poor Quality by tuckerm, January 20, 2007

I install this the other day was was very impressed. However had a couple of issues, ie it's filled with bugs, such as when I try to delete a location and it just bottoms out with errors. Doesn't interact with the db it setup well at all.

Uninstalling... doesn't work. Had to manually delete files and db references. First use, it seems all well. Just start trying to delete records and you're up sh!! creek without a paddle.

Needs more work. And I'll definitely come back, until then... in the bin this one goes.

Easy to install, quick learning curve... very nice! by tydust, December 22, 2006

Does everything it says it will do. Easy to install, and once you get the hang of it, it's very easy to set up ads for multiple positions and multiple ads for clients, etc.

Very nicely done!

Surprised this extension isn't used more often, actually...I'm using it on 5 different sites and only had one bug, with a previous release, where FlexAdvert became incompatible with iJoomla magazine. Newest release has no problems.

Does exactly what its supposed to do by jeremyD, November 22, 2006

Very neat tool for managing banner ads. Simple to install and set up, once I'd realized that ad locations equate to a module position. Not overcomplicated and works well.

Great work! by ianmel, September 23, 2006

I'm delighted that Matthew has decided to do some work on this vital area that seems to otherwise have remained somewhat neglected. Its an excellent piece of work and although not yet feature-rich it surely does the job!

Installation was a breeze but I pulled my hair out (almost) when my first banner was not diaplaying! Turned out that i didn't select the Location in the banner manager even tho i had set it up and the location was displayed in the text box.

I look forward to further updates to this great utility!
