Easy Gallery is a small and simple image gallery component for Joomla. You can define categories and sub-categories and add photo's to it. Easy Gallery has the following features:
* Define categories and sub categories
* Add a photo to a category
* Add a zip file with photo's to a category
* Scan a directory on your server for pictures to add to a certain category
* Upload pictures through FTP to avoid ownership issues and safe_mode issues
* Automated thumbnail creation
* Image resize on image view for very large images
* Lightbox effects
* Frontend management

This seems to be working a-OK, except for the fact that, when people click to see the full image, only a black canvas with a white border and a "close" button is displayed.
other than that, this is pretty amazing.

Cool, Clean component by themejoomla, May 16, 2008

We have been using Easy Gallery for a while now and it is quite clean and simple and functions for us with no problems at all.
A Joomla 1.5 version would be nice though (holding thumbs)...

Great! by cybecom, January 18, 2008

I just wanted a simple gallery component for users to be able to upload and view images. This does that very easily.
Pros
- Easy to install. I had no problems although I did read these reviews and noted that I should leave the FTP disabled option to be yes even though I wanted FTP to work.
- Seems to be quite a fast application although that is more a feeling as opposed to using any hard and fast criteria.
- Reading from a Zip archive worked well. I noted it was quite clever. I created a Zip with 4 JPEGs and 1 BMP file (unintentionally) but it only loaded the JPEGS. When I checked the archive I realised the missing file was a BMP.
Cons
- As I can't see any other documentation on this, I am assuming it only handles web graphic formats like JPEGs, GIF and PNG. Most people will only want to use JPEGs I guess.
- The Blue Arrow Up image/option for allowing you to upload doesn't always show up on each page. I noticed it wasn't there when displaying the contents of a directory if I navigated to that directory from the web interface. But if I uploaded from the main directory, the resulting screen was a listing of all images in the uploaded directory with the upload Blue Arrow Up image/option displayed in the top right corner. Probably just a logic issue in the code.
- Documentation costs. Not sure this is the right way of promoting a product but nothing in this world is for free.
Overall though, great stuff!
Cheers

Weird file things by Jaril, November 25, 2007

This is a nice-looking, functional gallery. My complaint is that the images don't really seem to be removed after deletion. You can't upload an image with the same name as one that has been up before. That's unsettling, because I don't want to use a component that leaves things hidden. If it leaves what I've put on there, what else could it leave behind on my system? Owner's reply: With the correct permissions, images will be removed once you remove them.
And uploading images with the same name is possible. Easy Gallery will add a timestamp prefix to the filename before writing it away, creating unique filenames

Very good. Maybe great. by hypercog, November 10, 2007

This gallery does a superior job of simply presenting graphics without all the extras of more complicated packages.
One caveat: While this great package is FREE, you should be aware that there is much more power available under the hood that you may not be able to access without paying the $20+ for the documentation; plan to buy it or you may never tap Easy Gallery's full potential.
(I personally feel that there ought to be at least a _little_ basic documentation, such as how to display a gallery category.)

Best Gallery Extension by diavi, October 7, 2007

I've tried a few different gallery extensions, and this one is my favorite. It has the cool look of the 'Simple Gallery', but with the ability for users to upload and manage their galleries from the front end. Really awesome. Thanks for the killer extension!

zip upload does not work by uvafanatic, August 15, 2007

When i try to upload zip files of photos, it never works. Photos dont show up anywhere. I have to upload every photo one by one, which is incredibly tedious.
Also, i have the same problem as other people in that my categories dont show up in the manage categories area.
finally, i think a good thing to do would be to make photos links to the next photo. SI.com photo galleries are like that. You just click on the photo when you are viewing it full size, and it takes you to the next one. The "next" link is a bit small for poeple to notice.

Very nice with some disadvantages by Bladerunner, July 29, 2007

1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Very nice tool (1.5) , easy to install and very useable and scalable. There are some disadvantages however but there are workarounds for it.
• Negative logic should be interpret as inverse negative logic, i.e. Ftpdisable should be set to Yes to enable it.
• Password should be invisible.
• Filenames may not contain spaces.
• Now the full filenames are set as default which is all right, but I would prefer a default name without file extension.
• Pictures are not formatted in cells so for a nice straight column lay-out you have to make your pictures all equal sized which can be done in a photo editor but not for everyone accessible.
• Back-end admins can easily change the sizes in config for mixed picture sizes, but front-end users cannot.
• You have to take care when editing comments near a picture where hyperlinks or other special options MUST be enclosed in single quotes. This cannot be done in the default wysiwyg editor so you have to switch to NoWysiwyg. (Evaluation of the var “$photo->description” is necessary).
• I do not use the joomla back option therefore I needed to add a small syntax in addition to the text beneath the picture to go back to the gallery.
Despite above comment it is a recommendable photo gallery which fulfil my needs and usable for most individual galleries.

Don't mix with other java apps by Cosworth, July 9, 2007

I really like til Gallery. Simple and effective. The only flaw is a design problem. The component conflicts with several templates and various menu systems if they use the mootools java component. This can really drive you crazy trying to find a workaround. It's a shame for such a nice component to suffer from this.

It is easy! by keveen, June 19, 2007

This is the simplest and most straightforward image gallery I have found so far. It does not have too many bells and whistles.
It managed to upload all the images from a folder without the chore of manual entry into an xml file. You can assign an image as a category icon. One good point is that you can easily add detailed information to a foto. I think the image pop-up could be nicer and I should be able to open the full size image without having to use the enlarge/reduce button.
A fast way to create albums.
One strange error is that I cannot see the list of categories in the backend even though they have been created.

Good, but not quite ready by threlfs, June 6, 2007

I have rated this good because it has been the only Gallery I managed to get up, running and used for a while. It is easy to set up as long as you read the instructions. In fact this gallery was the one I had least problems with.
It is important to also remember that this is not yet an official release, only a Release Candidate, RC4. I did have problems, but the forum provided some of the answers, the others will probably be fixed on release.
Looking forward to an official release, and one that's Joomla 1.5 compatable.

Almost there by kcockett, June 2, 2007

Pros:
1. Instant install, no snags
2. Configuration pretty simple
3. No CSS edits necessary to match my theme
4. Backend works great.
Cons:
1. Had some trouble determining what path to put in the configuration
2. Front-end administration does not work in IE, fine in any other browser. Adam acknowledges this error and admits he's clueless as to why it doesn't work. This was a deal-killer for me. I went with RSGallery2.
This product is at 98% of greatness and I really wanted to use it but I really need that front-end to work with IE. Keep diggin Adam.
