Sigsiu Online Business Index 2 (SOBI 2)
SOBI2 since the version RC 2.9.0 includes the Joomla! 1.5 Semi-Native mode implementation. What does semi-native mode mean? Basically that means, that this SOBI2 version works in Joomla! 1.5 without the legacy plugin enabled.
However there are two limitation:
* SOBI2 has to be installed with the legacy plugin enabled. After the installation the legacy plugin can be disabled again.
* There is no support for the Joomla! 1.5 FTP-Layer.

SOBI 2 - Sigsiu Online Business Index 2 is a directory component for the WCMS Mambo and Joomla! to show entries of companies, clubs, persons, shops, products, aso.
The entries are divided into categories, which can contain subcategories. One entry can be entered in several categories. The companies/clubs/persons enter themselves in the index. Registered users can modify or delete their entries. Entries can be renewed by the user if they expire.

Using the integrated Category & Entry Manager in the back-end, all categories and entries can be managed comfortably. Entries and categories can be deleted, unpublished and moved.

A Fields Manager can be used to configure each field entirely. This concerns the ordering, obligatory fields, fees, field length (width of field and number of characters), field type (textfield, textarea, checkbox, checkbox group, select list, text code or calendar), search methods, in which view a field should be shown (Category View and/or Details View), and much more. An unlimited number of new custom fields can be added.

For each entry two images can be uploaded (besides the linked images in the description). The images will be resized to a predefined size. With the URL field "image" it is possible to add fields for linked images.

An alpha index is available to show only entries starting with a specified letter. Also only the most popular entries and categories, the recently updated entries, the new entries or entries by tags (mata keywords) can be shown.

To let the customer pay for the not for free options easily, a connection to PayPal is integrated.

In a menu module all categories can be shown in tree view or all main categories in a flat view. An extended search function gives the possibility to search within the existing values of one or more fields or within a specific category.

SOBI 2 works with "Register Globals" and "Register Globals Emulation" off.
SOBI 2 is the big brother of SOBI and suitable for those users, which need the wide possibilities of configuration and subcategories.
Features:

* Multi-Level Categories (unlimited nesting depth)
* Adding Multiple Subcategories at once

1st Class component by silver007, November 12, 2007

Fabulous and offers extras that I hadnīt even thought of using until I saw them.

Iīm a Joomla! webmaster novice with only a few months experience and this was simple to install, easy to configure (and the options are multiple and useful) and I think looks great too.

The response for help on the Foum was answered within 2hours with a friendly reply that gave the answer needed. The question wasnīt a technical problem either, just something I hadnīt figured out due to me not looking in the right place for a plugin.

I havenīt even searched through or checked out the plugins, addons either and am sure i will be delighted with those as well.

Great component.

Never posted so decided its time. What can be said this has to be the most used component on Joomla. If not a very close second :) The community is great, the dev team actually continues to work hard on the project and making changes.

I sure hope Joomla is smart enough to change the GPL otherwise we will loose a wonderful component soon.

Oh yeah and its FREE what else can I say!

Excellent Directory Component by davec, October 30, 2007

I have played with this component on and off for some time. The latest version is great. Added a couple of thing including the Alpha Index which on a larger directory I think is important. The Captcha code is handy too. The admin is also greatly improved.

no import by yamada, October 29, 2007
Installed it,tried it, and looks great.
However it may sound positive i did gave it average.
Reason is :lack of response on demand.
As i was searching and hoping that it would include some way to import from mosets (look-a-like) i found myself disapointed.
Why should anyone go from mosets to sobi2 is a personal choice, but besides that...you cannot because there is no way of importing your data.
I was surprised to see after searching that more people requested it,and that was months ago,and replies after that weren't answered.
And as of this day there is no import function,to go from mosets to sobi2.

I finally took the moment to register myself here, only to review and rate Sobi2. In the beginning i was lost with this component, so many options!! Taking a moment to read the Sobi2 Wiki, and with the great and fast help of the people (neo and trinity) of the Sobi forum..i got the layout exactly that i needed..this component is much more than some company index..im using it for an music album section! This component is indeed one of the most professional extensions for free! You guys are doing a great job..two thumbs up!! ^_^

Excellent and feature rich by starlight, September 27, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Very feature rich and one of the best things about it is the ability to be able to create a LOT of categories all at once instead of one by one(I had 100), which is a huge time-saver! Support on the forums is excellent too, which is also very important.

I have only one problem with it, which is that is has some problems with some of the WYSIWYG editors and doesn't work with all of them, in particular WysiwygPro but that *may* be due to another problem I'm having with my site at the moment.

Best ever ... by craimiog, September 24, 2007

I just wondering why this extension is not a editors pick.
This is the best extension I ever seen. And not just only this exetnsion is great. The support is much better as many commercial products have. Even if You have problems with SOBI2, you will have the solution for this problem in less than 24 hours.
Thank you very much.

Powerful, flexible, and easy to use! by salimai, September 21, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
I've used SOBI2 before for the basic business indexing purpose it was built for, and it works great out of the box. There are plenty of settings to tweak and adjust to get your site running exactly how you need.

What really impressed me, though, is my experience with the newest site I've put together. There were two basic components that I needed for the core functionality of the site: a file listing and a basic store.
I found that DOCman and reMOSitory didn't offer some features I would need for this specific file listing, and the different shopping cart solutions such as VirtueMart and ECJC were overkill in some areas and lacking in others.
Without too much trouble, I was able to modify SOBI2 to meet my needs for both tasks. I'm now running two separate modified SOBI2 components on my site, and it's working perfectly.

I would recommend SOBI2 to anyone needing any sort of directory on their site. If you're just a little creative, you'll be able to adjust settings or modify the code to suit your needs.

This is an excellent extension by cmdr_data, September 17, 2007

It's simple the best directory component available.
If you want a online directory site, then this is the one to use. It is very simple and fast to install. The support in sisiu forum is really great. Since the RC 2.8.0 this extension has all featured which an directory really need: search in categories, check boxes group with multiple selection, and search in categories. Thanks an Trinity and Neo :-)

Incredible component by Kevin Harper, September 13, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
The developers have done an excellent job in creating a very flexible component that is much better than mosDirectory and other directories for Joomla.

With Sobi2, you have amazing control over the look, structure, and usability of your directory. For large directories, definitely turn off dTree and use the experimental SobiTree for speed on the front and backend. I have a State/County database that I built and the Javascript dTree was too slow. But their SobiTree works beautifully.

Great job, I look forward to seeing more from these two.

In my opinion it's one of the best joomla extensions by thuridilla, August 21, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Pros:
+ Flexible way to manage directories and add fields
+ Forum is really Active, always somebody answering quickly.
+ Often updated
+ I appreciate the fact that component is free and useful add-ons (plugins) have to be paid. I prefer it to paying for the component itself. It is a good solution for non commercial sites!

Cons:
- not possible to assign different fields to different categories; if you want to have something like thatyou must use a clone of the component (but on forum there's always one available and instructions about how to create others)
- there is no contact form instead of direct mail link (but they are preparing it)
- not possible to export items

Easy to use for thickos like me by andypooz, August 10, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Of all the extensions I've installed, this one is the most intuitive (at least to my way of thinking) Thank you for such a great product with (very nearly) everything I need. Usually tweaking these things is done with a sense of dread, but I'm not worried when I'm messing about with SOBI.

Best Component EVER!!!! by gwmbox, August 8, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
I think my title says it all, this really is the BEST component out there, and I have used many.

Not only is the component easy to install, it is also easy to use, easy to customise, and to top it all off - and this is why this is the BEST - it has Excellent support from Trinity and Neo, second to none.

The forums are constantly monitored by both Trinity and Neo as well as many others (plus myself) all willing to help anyone that needs it.

There is also the ability if you need to clone the SOBI2 system, so you can have more than one running for different sections of your site, I have 6 - yep 6 and they all work brilliantly.

SOBI2 also has a host of add-ons, a number free and a few commercial, which I have used both, and I am more than happy to pay for some of the add-ons to help Neo and Trinity keep on developing SOBI2, but please don't think you 'need' the commercial add-ons, because you don't that is up to you.

To sum up if you need any sort of directory system SOBI2 will fit the need and more, no need to look elsewhere - just brilliant!!

Thanks again to Trinity and Neo :)

Great Support!! by bscunningham1, August 5, 2007

Great functionality but for the most important feature of this solution.......see my review title. BC

Almost Great by vbsouthern, August 3, 2007
I found this to be one of the best Joomla extensions I have ever used. The feature that allows for charging the user a fee for an entire listing or allowing some fields for free and charging a fee for other is quite brilliant. The back-end took about fifteen minutes to figure out.

One of the problems I had is I can only list categories that require the same fields. For example, you make a list of fields for people to list their restaurants in Denver. That is as far as you can go.

If you want another category for people to list Night Clubs or musicians the same fields show up for both. There is no way to have separate fields for each category. I definite disadvantage for multiple categories.

The two other problems are small. No radio buttons and no drop down lists. All in all, Almost Great.

Owner's reply:
You can have "one entry in more than one category" OR "separate fields for each category" but both is not possible.

The drop down lists will be implemented in the next version. Please notice that SOBI2 is not even one year old and it's free
