tableXML is a Joomla! component which lets you manage simple tables stored as XML files.
Imagine you have some tabular data that you want to store (aka insert, modify and delete from the back-end and view, page and sort from the front-end) but, for some reason, you can’t use a regular database, maybe because your system administrators don’t allow you to create a database table from the Internet.
tableXML can be a solution… but if the whole thing still sounds strange to you, don’t worry because we get paid to write this component and the whole thing still sounds strange to us too :).
The component supports Catalan, Dutch, English, French, Hungarian, Italian and Spanish.
Since 0.4.9 it is shipped with search and shift functions.

It is a great little module and is unique within Joomla plugins. However, what would be really sweet would be if there was a way of addding XSLT, DTD and CSS to the tables. Then I think we would really be talking XML within Joomla.

Please note, that .xml files placed in /[Your server root]/media/tablexml/. Maybe you need to CHMOD 777 (or something else) this directory to changing those files externally. Owner's reply: You can change the XML files outside of the component using, for example, the joomlaxplorer component or something else but it is not necessary to 777 their directory to do it (/media/tablexml/ is created as 0700).

| Valuable, but needs search capability by mattstahl, January 25, 2007 |

Undeniably useful and easy to configure, but the function loses utility as the sort list grows. A search function of some type would dramatically enhance the value of this component. Owner's reply: From 0.4.9 it is shipped with search and shift functions.

I catalog quite a few things with Access databases at home. I was looking for a simple way to put these catalogs online.
I tried exporting as HTML but it didn't look right. Then I saw this extension. I exported my catalogs as XML files, did a little modification to them and added them using this extension. They work perfectly.
I still have to figure out how to style the pages properly but it's a great start.
Thank you.
