Jambook - Simple and Effective by jsw, April 30, 2008

I have used Jambook on a couple of sites and it is a very simple and easy solution.
There's nothing fancy about it - but I don't want people leaving ridiculous HTML, smilies and other such rubbish in my guestbook, and Jambook allows you to limit entries to good, clean, old fashioned plain text - exactly what I want.
It is also useful to have the ability to moderate guestbook entries before they appear on the site, and Jambook will inform you by email when a new entry has joined the queue.
All in all, a very simple extension that even a complete novice can install and use.

Nice, but one killer criterion for me by badda, January 2, 2008

Component is rich with features - very useful ones as well. I would have kept it if it had a built-in editor with more features than just plain text. There is the option to use the joomla built-in richtext editor, but I don't want to expect my users to endure using MosCE.
A nice little editor with BBCode support and some animoticons would have been nice ...

Easy but lacks (easy) customization by ThePrutser, November 19, 2007
|
Although the install is really easy, the customization lacks functionality. Futhermore from what I can read from the support forums, it looks like that the author (support) only replies to the question he really wants to reply to.
To customize you have to know your HTML, and at last two browser windows to easily see your results. There is no preview mode. When editing the HTML you can only save or cancel, I really miss the apply functionality here.
It is not really clear which CSS it uses, at first it looks like it uses it's own. But searching the forums it appears to be the joomla css. In some templates there are some CSS tags, but those do not seem to work for everyone. According the installation documentation there should be two templates included, but there is only one called "default"
Lastly there is no supported way of making some input values required.
In it is core it has good potential and it usable right out of the box, but if you want a little more and apply some customization I would skip this one.

Easy to setup and use by Tom Hammond, October 26, 2007

We got Jambook installed and configured very quickly. It does the job easily and is easy for logged in users to use. Highly recommended for being dirt simple to use and install.

Awesome extension! by diavi, September 30, 2007

This thing works great and is simple to install and customize. @ Shaggycows: If you spend more than minute looking at the options, you'll see that you can turn off the wysiwyg integration. That's what I did as well.
The spam protection works very well and required no time to setup as well.
Thanks for this great tool...I REALLY appreciate it and will be making my donation! :)

Jambook Is Not User Friendly by shaggycows, September 9, 2007

I installed Jambook and found it does not provide a user-friendly interface to visitors who are unfamiliar with Joomla. A simple comment form would be much better. There is no need for a full WYSIWYG editor and all the options. I uninstalled Jambook. It would be better to have no guestbook than this complicated extension simply to take guest comments.

Joomla 1.5? by timryberg, September 4, 2007

As far as I can tell this module has everything I need with one exception: Support for Joomla 1.5 (even in legacy mode). Any plans to add this anytime soon? I sent toe author the errors I was getting so hopefully that can expedite things. Other than that, great module!

Good, but... by eeerlend, August 29, 2007

I will gladly recommend this extension for everyone planning to set up a guestbook for their clients! It works excellent, and is using joomlas stylesheet as deafult.
But....: Its just tables tables, and tables... But you can of course edit the template and make it tableless. It should have been an official tableless template for this.

Works like a charm! by Redfern, August 14, 2007

Works right out of box!
Moreover, it have internal Captcha library, so i still don't need to install monstrous Captcha engine - 1.5 mb is too much for generic shared library.

Good basic component by axima, May 9, 2007

The stile and layout is not perfect some bugs as it still in beta. It should be tested on usability as well. I think it is a bit confusing to have cancel and preview buttons on the form. There is an option also to use default Joomla editor which is for me a total nonsense. So good beginning. Keep on the development.
Definitely I would not recommend this component for production sites. EasyBook is still number 1.
