Mamblog
Mamblog is a user blog component for Mambo 4.5.2.3 and Joomla 1.0.x. This version includes lots of bug fixes, several new language files as well as a couple of new configuration options.

Features
* Users can create a new blog item.
* Users can edit their own blog items.
* Items can be set to published, unpublished or archived.
* Archived items won't be listed in the main listing when showing blogs from the user, but only as linked titles when viewing a users archived blogs.
* Some appearence properties can be set, among these: text color, background color, border width (sets a border around the text), border color etc. Each of these can be disallowed in the configuration for the component.
* Item can be set to appear on the "frontpage", which means the item will show up on the frontpage of the site. This is configurable.
* Users can set if they want others to be able to comment on the blog item as well as setting if the comments should be publically shown. N.B. No internal comment system available at this moment.
* It is possible to list a single blog item, all published blogs by a user, all archived blogs from a user, all blogs on a given date, all blogs set to be shown on the frontpage and all blogs by all users. All of these lists conform to show only the amount of complete items and linked items that has been set by the admin, just as the Joomla frontpage.
* The admin can define which type of blogs should be shown on the blog frontpage.
* The script uses the content table in Joomla for all data.
* Completely automatical installation.
* Configurable whether new blog items need to be admin approved before shown on the site.
* Users can archive and unpublish their blogs.
* When adding/editing a blog item the user can set access restrictions for who can read the blog. Public, Members or Private.
* The admin can configure which extra attributes of blogs users should be able to edit.
* All config options changeable by an easy to use admin interface.
* Admin configurable if all users or only special users should be able to edit/create blogs.

1.5 Compatability Please by rodvold, August 20, 2008
It's an effective blog component that does the job. I really wish someone would take this into J1.5- I would choose it over existing blog components because of its simplicity.

Owner's reply:
I'm working on getting it to run under legacy mode. I'm about halfway through, but got stuck on a bug in Joomlas legacy mode.

On another note, my site is soon to be back up again. I just uploaded an old backup, but I'm looking for a newer backup before I open up the site.

I like it! by denden, June 5, 2008
If all you're looking for is a simple blog function for your Community Builder users, this works right out of the box. This was a perfect small addition for my site, and not bloated with crap I didn't need.

It works by Nilsy, April 25, 2008
It seems many reviews here actually boil down to support, as the Mamblog works fine. At least for me.
The first time around it didn't work, and the support site was down etc.
So, after a few months away from it, I decided to dig in, and see what can be fixed from the backend.
To start with, it was up and running in a few hours.
The comment system says that it wants AkoComment or a few others.
Which was annoying, but, no problem, I just went to the Comment system of JoomlaComment, and activated it for the Mamblog... and YES, it works!

I just don't understand that there has obviously gone a lot of work into this, so why has it entered into an abandoned zone?

Owner's reply:
Yeah, JoomlaComment support should definately be added. I've planned on adding it in, I just haven't had the time.

As for support and further development: The component was a quick hack from the beginning and I've never actually used it myself. And as it never gave very much in donations I just can't give it as much of my time as I do other components.

The good and the bad by stevent, April 21, 2008
The good thing about Mamblog is that is realy easy to set up and to use. The bad thing is that you can't edit the entries made by other users, due to Joomla limitations. Joomla does't allow registered users to write content items and Mamblog doesn't have a administration interface to overcome this.
And it looks as if the jxdevelopment.com site is down.

Owner's reply:
Yeah, it's a bug in the Mamblog admin interface caused by changes in the Joomla internals. This will be addressed sometime...

My site jxdevelopment.com is down at the moment, but I will try to revive it soon.

Developer Website by Jadzia, April 20, 2008
The component itself is excellent however I wish the developer website could stay up! The links from within the component are NOT going to jxdevelopment.com and anyway both sites are down. Makes it difficult to work with.

Crucial Component, needs our support by insideoutweb, October 26, 2007
Considering that it is incomplete (images, comments, etc.) and approaching abandonware, I was hoping that Mamblog would be rendered irrelevant by Joomla 1.5. But that is not the case. So for those of us developing Joomla-based community sites, Mamblog is required.

Unfortunately, there is no support for Joomla 1.5, and the developer's website seems to be down more than it is up.

So until another open source, multi-user, CB-compatible, blogging component comes along, we all need to root for Mamblog.

I'm hoping that Olle either gets rolling again with new updates, or that some young hungry developer inherits (or forks) this worthy component.

I am willing to contribute time to alpha/beta testing, and to donate cash once a new, Joomla 1.5-compatible version appears.

Owner's reply:
I've been working a bit on updating the component to work in Joomla 1.5 legacy mode. But there's still some more work to do. And unfortunately, my free time is very limited at the moment.

I've also had some very bad luck with my servers, having had two complete hardware crashes in the last year, and partial one the year before. I will however set it up again on a hosting provider as I've given up running my own server. When the co-location place just turns off the power or kills the server in some other interesting way it's just not worth it.

Spent an hour or so the day before yesterday trying to figure out why the access control didn't work. Until I found out that there was a bug in the legacy plugin. So I kinda lost the momentum on the fixes, but I'll try to get to it once I'm back from my vacation.

And I agree with that Joomla should have internal functionality that would make Mamblog obsolete.

The worst extension ever by wendy1, September 29, 2007
Ok I never review components unless they are really great or really horrible. This one is bad. I experienced the same issues as many past reviewers such as the inability to add/upload images. I could live without images but my users could not comment on any content. What is the point of a blog if comments do not work. Also this is the first component I have installed that never responded to tech support questions and didn't seem to want to implement bug fixes. Don't bother with this one.

Not the best blogging system. by lisafrench, September 10, 2007
This would probably be a good blogging system if it wasn't so full of issues and had poor user support. I have been setting up blogs for some time now and this one did not work well at all. When searching the help forum all my searches turned up as "no results" yet the exact words I was using was found in several posts...however, that isn't the problem, the problem is that when trying to set up the WYSIWYG Editor it claimed that you were able to reduce the size to fit in to a template, however, no matter how small I set the editor it still showed up as VERY LARGE and hanging off the page. When I attempted to retrieve and answer I got absolutely no help. I wouldn't recommend this one until the kinks are worked out.

easy handling by mimohoorn, July 6, 2007
my daughter uses mamblog on her site and she is 10 years old.

The content that she writes comes the way she thinks it, but when I help her to place the "enters" (htmlcode I know that there are no spaces in that code, but I did it because of the "*No HTML") it doesn't show in the blogs.

Even when I adjust the HTML section with the code, nothing happens, so I hope that will change in the future, cause it's easier to read the stories, like you read this review now with the "enters"

Very weak by baijianpeng, June 27, 2007

This one is too weak to be a blog component for Joomla.

I think if you really need a blog, just use Joomla Content sections and categories.

If you need a multi-user blog system, why not try Lifetype?

Pretty good but... by stethoscopenews, May 30, 2007
Everything works well so far but I wish there was a way to integrate AJAX vote and Jomcomment.

where's the help? by Pixelate, May 16, 2007
The developer site seems to be unavailable or inaccessible and there's no support documentation. I appreciate that the Developer may not think we need a manual as it's too basic for that, but it could really use more support with a forum or manual option.

For some reason the automatic page display is two columns but I want a list of blog articles in a single column like a regular blog.

No idea how to change it because there's no manual or support.

Owner's reply:
There's a quite detailed manual included in the component, which can even be read from the administrator panel. The manual is also available on the support site, along with an FAQ and a support forum. I ight not always answer questions immediately, but I do try to read them and answer them when I can.

Support site is available here: http://www.jxdevelopment.com

Works Great by civilkaos, May 14, 2007
I found that mamblog worked promptly after install. Many, many options.

Intergrated easily with fireboard and community builder profiles!

I'm keeping it.

i think.. it's not 100% functional, by reve, April 25, 2007
I have the same problem i encounter the user can't post a new blog....
There is no user list functionality to list blogs by i.e. categories, user name, title, date etc..
I can't save a new blog entry from the front-end editor

Installs fine. Turned images on in configuration but although image is downloaded into text editor, it does not appear on page with text.

Also, mosimage doesn't not generate it's dialog box in text editor.
