Dynamic(ajax) search module for VirtueMart, which displays a live list of results during typing keyword with a cute moo.fx vertical slide effect. Module comes with parameters:
- Module Class Suffix
- Menu Class Suffix
- show/hide a link to advanced search
- duration of the slide effect in ms
- limit the number of results
- min characters to type before sending a request
- SEO compatible
-> developped for http://www.horizon-music.com and redistributed to the community

For your convenience, the project is now hosted on joomlacode.org at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/vm_livesearch/ so you can now report bugs, request features, discussions...

| not bad though there is a bug by beededea, April 29, 2008 |

This module is slick and seems to do the job, however, there is a bug.
If you use more then one template in your site/shop as I do it manifests itself. I have one template for the site and another for a VM shop. Even though I have the second template assigned correctly to the VM shop when I use this module to select a product from the drop down list, it always reverts to the default template - which is no good! It completely screws up the shop, layout & look.
The problem is that this module is deriving the $itemid incorrectly, then using that to determine what the template is. To fix this bug you have to open livesearch.php and force the item id. You can just put the line:
$itemid='56';
(replace 56 with the correct itemid, you can find this out by clicking on a product in the VM shop in the normal manner and view the URL, find itemid = nn and take the itemid from there, SEO needs to be off so that you can see the URL in full)
replacing this line :
$itemid=$database->loadResult('componentid');
This is a kludge but it will make the module work without selecting the wrong template. Someone who is more knowledgeable in PHP than me then me can come up with the correct select statement to get the right itemid.
If this could be fixed then it would be 'recommendations all round'. As it is, it is flawed and will make your two-template site function incorrectly unless you hack the code.

| It does not work for Joomla 1.5 with legacy plugin by alexfloren, April 5, 2008 |
|
This extension was good in 2007, but now is outdated and it does not work for Joomla 1.5
It does not give more features than the search module of VirtueMart 1.1
At these days, Joomla 1.5 has no advanced search modules yet for VirtueMart 1.1

Installed perfectly, and hardly needs customized. Very slick interface, and makes quick searches without having to load another page. Thanks for releasing this to the community!

| Nearly worked out of the box! by dazzler, November 10, 2007 |
|
well what can i say, it very nearly worked out of the box, i got the error 500 that some other users got, but this was a simple directory permission error (my server no longer allows me 777)
I reset the folders to 755 and it works perfect.. In fact better than perfect, it is the most trick mod i have ever installed
would have got 5 stars if it wast for the error 500
keep up the good work

Beautiful, fast, does a great job! Thank you so much!
Just one little thing -- need it to strip slashes from escaped characters in the product name.

| Great Job! by ssch732, May 18, 2007 |

This is definitely an awesome module.
Only one problem, The result pop up correctly.
But I can't leave product prices blank,
otherwise the result links won't send product_id.
Makes broken links.
Anyway, thanks million!
this is still one of the modules I like very much.

Great component... functional and aesthetically pleasing!(what else can you ask for?)
Thank you for sharing this wonderful component.
Since I have no other way of getting ahold of tuckerm (previous reviewer):
I also had an internal server error 500... I looked at my error log in my CPanel and found the permission error "error: directory is writable by others: (/home/mbmbrake/public_html/modules/mod_vm_livesearch)"
So I went to my FTP and changed the permission from 777 to 755 for the folder and it's subdirectories.
* Tuckerm perhaps your perspective/attitude might need to be adjusted. Keep in mind that these people who selflessly contribute (which takes alot of time) aren't asking for any money.

I have just added this VM feature to my website of over 1100 educational toys and puzzles and it worked first time. A great search module. The extension has certainly made searching much more attractive on our website. Thanks Andrew

I use this with my site, the live search part always gets an error 500 internal server error. However, it works when going into the advanced search feature. Effectively this is then 50% useless.
In true Virtuemart style, there is no suppport or replies to this question. Virtuemarts enormous fault is the fact the developer responds to absolutely nothing, never zip. Leaving his forum and follow-ups to the few supporting users on his forum. Which also leaves 95% of queries never answered. Owner's reply: hey tuckerm,
I'm the developper of this very little module but i'm absolutely not concerned in the "virtuemart team". So in their's defense, it's quite normal they can't answer you :D
I left my e-mail address above to allow people contact-me, so...

I've used lots and lots of extensions on Joomla and having had a chance to comment before. Lots of crapy and many good. this is on the HIGH side of the good. It just feels great and looks awesome on your site. Integration is easy and customization comes from your templates CSS so very easy to edit.
I was going to give it 4 stars but there is no reason not to give it 5.
I do wish there was a way to read joomla content AND content from another database such as VirtueMart... together, you would have the perfect search. Especially if it looked as nice as this one!!!
