Latest alpha release (2.1.0) works fine under J1.5.x. Perhaps the others who are so upset about the components failings for them will march over to the trac page and contribute fixes (or ask for their money back... nod nod, wink wink).

Gallery2 is the premier photo gallery anywhere. this bridge component is ridiculous. it absolutely doesn't work.
like the others, i have looked far and wide for solutions to this thing and i haven't found any. my big problem is that the users WILL NOT SYNC -- Components>gallery2>User Management. absolutely will not sync.
therefore, i cannot log into this wonderful gallery component from a Joomla menu. i notice that this component has been available for over 265 days. that's 265 days of absolutely no support as far as i'm concerned.
at this point i will have to wrap the url in a wrapper and make do with that -- duplicate logins for my users and this sucks.

Finally Working! by ericinwisconsin, March 13, 2008

Gallery2 is nothing short of awesome. This bridge, however, hasn't been updated in awhile and I could never get version 2.0.14 to work properly so I've been using 2.0.13.
I recently found this article:
http://www.gallery-addons.com/Gallery-Addons/Component/Embedding_Gallery2/
which helped me get it up and running. It even has links to the bridge and the Joomlib that 2.0.14 needs. Try this out if you can't get it to work.

Good and working component by piccaros, February 27, 2008

It is always hard to find out what is the best Photo Gallery and I have tried them all, at least most of the components available on this site. Anyway, I found quite difficult to create a good photo gallery where every of my members have their own albums. Gallery 2 Bridge is basically creating a bridge between joomla and Gallery 2 from Menalto. Quite hard but feasible. I will a 5 stars because this is one of the best solution I know so far.
Live example:
http://www.blogynet.com
Click on the Albums and there you go, you will have some issues to fix and patch the design of Gallery 2 to match yours in Joomla.
Enjoy

Gallery is a beautiful piece of programing. Joomla is great. This bridge is not. I finally got it working after hours of searching outdated forum posts discovered that it was really not worth the hassle. It essentially works, but its not very impressive. Parts (such as the user permissions part) still are giving me error messages, but I can live with it.
They say you get what you pay for--this extension is free, but still overpriced.

If you can get this bridge and G2 working, it's great.
But the supports from both gallery2 and bridge side are extremely bad. I searched the whole forums, nothing related to my problem..Actually there are some related posts, but they were not solved. My post have been replied after months in both Gallery2 and Brige forum. Very poor documentation, very scattered forums. If you want this gallery, you are on youw own. And if you are expert level php programmer, there is nothing you can do. And I heard they have a bug related with Joomla 1.013 login process. It's not working with this version of Joomla

A nightmare by rernst, January 30, 2008

This extension is a total nightmare. Granted, I have installed it probably into a dozen Joomla installations and if it works, it works well. However, locating the required Joomlalib component is not for the faint of heart (why is it not hosted in the normal places???) and the installer pretty much, well, it does not work 9 out of 10 times and I wind up configuring the database by hand.
The wizard is a joke. Seriously, I have never, ever gotten that one to work.
But then again this seems to be the only option and after you have spent 45 minutes for doing something that should have taken 2 you will be happy with it.
Still, someone ought to pursue an alternative to this headache.

I am very impressed about this bridge. Lemme give you some background about me. I have 0 knowledge of php and joomla. I installed joomla and installed gallery than gallerbridge. It works very smooth. The only reasone i gave 4 stars because if you try to SEF that bridge believe me you will go mental. I read that author will make more SEF in the next versions. Other than that this is excellent. Since almost all the gallery components out there using lightboxes, if you dont want lightboxes (as you know search bots hate lightboxes & AJAX) thats the component u need

I am still on a major learning curve with Joomla so keep that in mind. I was hesitant to try Gallery 2 Bridge because of the mix of reviews, but I will say that with some effort I figured it out and all is working good; actually great. It was not the easiest of installations, but with a little careful searching on some (OK many) support forums I was able to get it running. And the really major reason for a good review is that once you do get it up and running it is an awesome tool to have. It is worth all the effort and then some, to get it running, that is my overall opinion.

It's a little buggy, but if you use Joomlalib and follow the instructions it's the most robust gallery you'll find.

Joomla 1.x & Gallery 2.x by chris.n, December 2, 2007

This component is good. It links two major open source products. The only tiny bad point is the lack of documentation: What version is exactly supported, what requirements and version of required components, libraries etc. What if you plan to move to Joomla 1.5...

I will admit that I had issues getting it up and running. The Bridge didn't like my path info and I spent a whole night playing/fighting with it until everything took.
However, I can't stress this enough, I absolutely love the G2 bridge now that its up and running. So far I'm using it on three sites and absolutely no one would guess that the Gallery sections are two different programs "bridged together". :) Once integrated, integration is seamless. You can easily access your G2 control panel from within your website (no need to go directly to the G2 control panel if you don't want to). I've been running the G2 Bridge on one website for over 7 months now and haven't had a single problem with it since the night I installed.
Can't wait for it to be upgraded to work with Joomla 1.5.

Parts are fine, ohters a nightmare by lohar, September 27, 2007

There seems to be some realy misunderstandings about this component.
To make it clear, I am a big fan of Gallery2. But to implement it into Joomla is more than an adventure. Of course to install the necessary stuff is easy (you get all you need on: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/gallery2_bridge/frs/), but than the trouble starts.
1. Why, as many say, does the offical site NOT mention where you get Joomla Lib?
2. Why does none of the guys who write positive things about it here, provides a link where everybody could see the job done?
3. The Bridge works for me so far, but if I open a link in the sidebar, I get a new window instead opening within Joomla. I ve tried the Forums - no result, not even an answer which helps.
4. The whole thing gets completely out of hand if I start to use Gallery2 Sidebar module.
5. Sometimes I suddenly see now pictures anymore. Once again, I have never received any clear answer in any Forum.
6. Why on earth does nobody provides a manual - I would start writing one if I got any idea how it works properly.
So after all, I have kicked it out and use Gallery2 in a wrapper.
PS: I like to mention that Gallery is a very fine tool. But one should at least warn people who want to include it into Joomla, it can be realy messy.
Links to my tests:
1. Link to Gallery 2 Bridge: http://www.bilderforum.ch/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=37&g2_view=dynamicalbum.PopularAlbum&g2_albumId=7
Links to Wrapper: http://www.bilderforum.ch/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=36
If I jumed on anybody feet which this, I trully appologize

Maybe it's just Community Builder... by amandaallen, September 5, 2007

Maybe it's just a problem with integrating with Community Builder, but it is buggy. Please do not insinuate that others don't know what they are talking about just because you were lucky enough to not have problems. I have found the documentation sparse and error screens frequent. Many people reported sync problems in the forum, and the author's fixes are posted on the forum 4 months ago but still haven't made it into a release. I can't download the updates from the forum because the registration there is broken. Frustrating. Wish I had not wasted my time.
