Simple Image Gallery (in content items)
*** Native Joomla! 1.5 version now available! ***

Adding image galleries inside your Joomla! articles (content items) is now super-easy and simple, using the "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin for Joomla! 1.0.x & 1.5.x.

Just add for example {gallery}myphotos{/gallery} inside any article and all images existing in the folder "myphotos" will be "automagically" presented as an image gallery.

The gallery created features stylish shadows on each thumbnail and "lightbox" popups to display the original images, when the user clicks on a thumbnail! The thumbnails are generated on the fly using PHP, which means that the original images are resized and resampled, too!

Anxious to see the "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin in action? Then visit our exclusive demo site at:
http://demo.joomlaworks.gr

What are the advantages of using it?
a) You don't need to have an additional gallery component to display a few images,
b) you don't need to tell your visitors "to see our photos from Paris click here" and
c) you focus more on content writing and less on administering the images!

The plugin is ideal for news portals wanting to display some product images, for example, inside their articles. The potential of this plugin is actually only limited by your imagination!

You can have as many galleries as you want inside each content item, but for performance purposes try to only add one at a time (unless you're having only 2-3 images per gallery). If you want to create a gallery from subfolders inside images/stories/, simple add them like this: {gallery}folder/subfolder/othersubfolder{/gallery}. In other words, write the path to your target folder without any slashes at the beginning or the end of your path. Future releases will feature more control over the galleries created as well as different representations!

The "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin from JoomlaWorks utilizes "Slimbox" (developed by Christophe Beyls), which is a "Mootools" implentation of the famous "Lightbox" script. "Slimbox" generates the nice popups that display the original images in a gallery.

Full documentation is included in the plugin's parameters page.

If you want to show your support on our work, please rate and comment on the plugin, here, at Joomla! Extensions.

The "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin is released under the GNU/GPL license.

Have fun creating galleries inside your Joomla! content items!

***Version 1.2.1 Changelog (May 27th, 2008)***
*************************************************
Native Joomla! 1.5 version released.

*************************************************
***Version 1.2.1 Changelog (January 6th, 2007)***
*************************************************
Minor code fix for the lightbox-like popup window's slideshow mode.

***********************************************
***Version 1.2 Changelog (January 5th, 2007)***
***********************************************
Today we are releasing the much anticipated version 1.2 of the "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin for Joomla! 1.0.x. This new version features a "troubleshooting" section in the documentation, covering all possible issues that users might encounter, which usually relate to bad server setups or bad templates. In 1.2 we have:
- Fixed multiple galleries on same content item issue. This includes the slide show.
- Added the ability to select whether to display a nice message plus the filename or just the filename in the image popup window.
- Added the ability to select whether to display a navigation tip or not in the image popup window.
- Done some minor code and usability fixes.

************************************************
***Version 1.1 Changelog (December 8th, 2006)***
************************************************
We have updated the "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin, now in version 1.1, to reflect user feedback and requests. The changes are many and we hope you like this one even more.
In version 1.1 we have done the following:
- Some minor code changes.
- Thumbnails now stretch to fill entire available content width.
- Thumbnails align as if they existed in a table. Don't worry, we've kept the divs, no tables here!
- Fixed broken shadow frame for images whose height is bigger than their width.
- Fixed PNG thumbnail preview.
- Added slideshow mode to the popups. Now the user can browse through the images without the need to close one image to open the next. The user navigates through images by clicking the "next" and "previous" buttons appearing on top of the image (on the right and left hand sides of the image respectively).
- Removed the image "filename" from the preview popup window. Instead we added the option for you to insert a nice message like: "You are browsing images from the article...". Type this message in the parameters.
Enjoy!

Finally found what I've been looking for! by dismalhiker, December 18, 2006
Is it possible (in a future release) to allow the admin to write captions for individual photos? This would make it the perfect gallery add-on in my opinion.

I've been looking for a long time for a gallery plug in that did NOT try to integrate an album from another program. I wanted a photogallery plugin that works within the CMS. Simple Image Gallery is IT!!! Thanks for outstanding work!

very good ! by elsinor, December 17, 2006
simple and great-looking

Excellent work!! by Geas, December 17, 2006
Excelent plugin/mambot for any site. Easy and quick intallation/implementation.

I'm having a little problem with the pop up, I only get a blank /white image, size is right thoug... I'll look into this asap.

Thanks!

Excellent plugin by ReconADA, December 14, 2006
Great job on this. Just what the doctor ordered. I found a small code fix however in the plugin_jw_sig.php file that will keep the title (alt) text that shows when you hover your mouse over the thumbnail from showing the html code i.e. "You are browsing images from the article:Article Title.

It does it on the demo site also.

Just change this part of the code:

$html .= ' IE7 and Firefox.

Anyway, as I said before I love the flexibility of this plugin and I think it's a must have if you have any type of picture gallery in Joomla. Great Job!

Very nice improvements! by mom2nine, December 12, 2006
I tried the first version, but had some problems getting images to display full size when you clicked on them. This one is a big improvement, and very easy to use. But it's a little confusing for the site visitor. When you click on the image, the popup comes up at the very top of your screen, where you could only see a small portion of the larger image if your gallery is further down the page. And it's not clear that you can click on another image and get the image to open in that same window. If you click close, it actually closes the full article and you have to go back to the full version to see the gallery and additional photos. There needs to be some additional controls on there or explanation when the popup window displays. If the gallery could somehow be set to create a full version slideshow fading from one photo to another full size, that would be classy, however. All in all, however, you've done something that many of us Joomla lovers have wished for!

Just made this live on our site by PhilC, December 11, 2006
I've just used this plugin / mambot inside my component to help display some images. I think the author writes very tools, as we are about to use the Ajax Newsflash tool as well which is also excellent and we already have the All Videos Plugin. I quite heavily modified this so suit my needs and it works excellently. Very good quality util, works flawlessly out of the box. Excellent.

Personal adjustments... by theokouv, December 10, 2006
Well done for all the excellent work.

One thing for anyone having a problem showing the thubnails of the images.
I can't tell in which part of the server the error was, but I had no thubnails of my gallery and no errors from joomla.
Because, I don't own the server, I adjusted the file "showthumb.php", in the folder "plugin_jw_sig", by hard-coding the image gallery's path in the "$_image_" variable in line 7.

Thanks again for an excellent plugin.

Great plug-in by Imagine, December 9, 2006
As it says, very simple to use

As said before in the reviews, a few options to choose from would be great, but it has to stay simple

Nicest, simplest, lightest... by AndyNick, December 9, 2006
Really love the aptly titled simplicity of this plugin, works as advertised and outputs attractive functional galleries. Newest 1.1 irons out all the major issues mentioned before.

The people at JoomlaWorks are turning out some great Joomla addons, quick with upgrades, attentive to improvements and prompt and polite in answering questions about their products.

Simply the best! by fa1zz, December 7, 2006
i searchs long time such a plugin! it's near perfect, but it's new.

my wishes for the next versions:

- option to set number of cols
- option to write a little more informations for each picture

Thanks alot for this Plugin! I'll donate joomlaworks as soon as possible!

Owner's reply:
All that you ask have been fixed in version 1.1. Enjoy!

Combining with sliders by Bendalf, December 7, 2006
I really like this plugin because of its simplicity.
I'm now trying to combine this plugin with your sliders & tabs plugin. When using tabs, the images are shown correct.
However, when using the gallery inside a slider, only the backgrounds (shadows) are shown and not the images themselves. It would be fantastic if this would be solved.

No pop-ups by luiscar, December 7, 2006
Very useful plug-in. It's easy to setup and run too.

My galleries looks fine (in Firefox) but the big pictures are opened in a full new window, with no alpha effect. I've tried to disable other javascripts, but there's no conflict. In IE I can't even get the page. I got an strange error message instead. My source code looks exactly the same as Joomlaworks demo does.

Great job by mwbarker, December 7, 2006
This is a fantastic, easy to implement plugin. A couple of suggestions, though to make it a little better:

1. Ability to use the lightbox image set technique to go between photos directly from within the lightbox.
2. Ability to place image folders anywhere within the site instead of only as folders/subfolders within images/stories.

One small bug that I have seen is when displaying images of various sizes and orientations, the thumbnail shadow boxes don't align properly with some images.

Other than that - what a GREAT PLUGIN! I look forward to the next release.

FireFox looks great, but IE..icccccck by icwebmaster, December 7, 2006
Tried this and would love to get it to show correctly in IE, but it does not greyout site as it should, in Firefox it works great, correct thumbs and all, but in IE, when you open the same, it's clipped....any ideas would be great on how to fix this. Email for link to site to see IE problems

Owner's reply:
The xml declaration included in the top of some templates (even the default Solarflare) is causing these display issues in IE. The XML declaration "forces" IE to run in quirks mode, meaning not complying to HTML/CSS standards! Removed the line "" and everything will show up fine in IE.

Great Plugin by Luciano, December 6, 2006
Simple and easy!

The best gallery solution for a "news" website.

Just a suggestion to give a 10:
Please, consider to make a JCE plugin too, this way editors can just click the gallery icon at JCE toolbar, try to imagine something like this - a popup opens with "Choose gallery folder" option, the editor can browse at server and finally click the "insert gallery" button. The WYSIWYG editor window can shows a colored bar to indicate where gallery starts, and the HTML editor window shows the plugin tags with folder path.
