This module allows to change images or animations based on the current Context a Joomla Page is in. Section-, Category-, Main Menu, Current Menu Item, Content or Author ID of the actual content are correlated to images that this module shows.
Supports default image file, checks for presence of image files, random default images and Slideshow of images.
With its ability to support HTML Code integration also Flash files or any other webobjects can be used in addition to static images.
And more: Multiple instances of the module and instance locking between them, time and date rules for activation allow even more flexibility to display different sets for days, weeks, holiday periods. Multilanguage support in combination with JoomFish to localize image sets to different languages.
Or in other words: Everything but the kitchen sink.

developer's website is obnoxious. either charge for it, or don't...but don't force your visitors to click through 100 different pages just to find the download link and oh yea you have to register notice is hidden in the bulk of the text?
very sad to see this development move away from GNU/GPL license

Pros: - SMART Mode is working very well and easy. You had to understand how to formulate the image file names.
-very easy to install/use
- even much more possible than "Header Image", change the name of the module? ;)
Cons: A minor detail is the organisation of the homepage. E.g. is not very easy to buy the software.
Highly recommended.

| Essential part of our Toolkit by williamconifer, November 2, 2007 |

Header Image is an essential part of our Joomla developer toolkit. Header Image allow us to create and control header and banner graphics where ever we need them in our design or the website. This gives our client sites a clean, sophisticated look whether they add images to their own articles or not.
Keep up the great work!

| A vital Joomla component by room58, September 28, 2007 |

This component is superb. If you need to create 'by page' banners, or banner rotations, it is perfect. The file selection process can take a few mins to get your head around (based around the menu/content/component id) but once you master this it is a powerful module that we use on almost all of our sites. The Mootools banner rotation is a great feature as well.

| Very configurable, complex by blitzstrahl, September 3, 2007 |

Nice. I'm a beginner user, and the Header Image was the absolutely correct solution for my sites. However, it's initially quite tricky to figure out the file naming scheme.
Now that I've gotten it running, I'm excited to learn the nuances of the file naming, scoring and related site structure to get a primo site running.

| Great module, READ THE DOCS by TotalHosting, August 12, 2007 |

I struggled with this module at first, until I came across this in the docs:
https://support.pillwax.com/open-source/doku.php?id=joomla:header_image:general
File naming is ESSENTIAL to getting this working.
I just wanted a simple switch of a header image based on the menu nav. It was a piece of cake, once I named my images properly. TIP: Use the Debug mode and then just click on each menu element you want to have an image for, and it will even tell you what to name the image. Then copy and paste the image name in your favorite image editor when you export/save as a PNG file, and you are done.
Kudos on a job well done!

Works without a problem. Be sure to read the documentation about the naming conventions. Once you get the hang of that, the smart mode is a piece of cake.

I've used the previous version of this very useful module, and now the possibilities are extended. In my view, a module like this should be part of the Joomla Core. It adds so much flexibility in your template, I can't do without it! Congratulations to the developer on doing a great job.

| Does exactly as it says on the box... by RobiW, May 21, 2007 |

Once you understand the naming convention it does exactly as it says for static images, slideshows and embedded flash.
You need to have a base image eg himg_s1.jpg (section 1) then just add extra images with added suffix of _001, _002, _nnn before the ext.
Also, had an issue with the new version 2 as it didn't provide a default ALT tag option required for WC3 validation in the slideshow option.
Within a day of contacting the author its now there in the v2.03 released this morning.
Great extension and great support!

| IE7 Compatible - This Module Solved a Major Problem by Schelly, May 12, 2007 |
|
I was called in to fix a problem a friend was having with a template she'd downloaded from a popular template club. The template itself is excellent, but IE7 was incorrectly handling the javascript and css. My friend really loved the rotating images on the top "header" area and asked me to see if I could solve the problem.
The template club members had apparently spent months, trying to find a flash method of handling the image transitions rather than sticking with the use of javascript. By the time I got to their discussion, however, they had long since given up and had gone off to creating flash sequences of their own.
I'm not a flash programmer, so that was out of the question for me. BUT! I found Header Image Module and thought it might be the answer. Holding my breath and saying a prayer, I installed it and took the javascript out of the template. I replaced it with a new module position code snippet and published this excellent add-on into that module position.
Bingo. No more problem. I highly recommend this module. It is Joomla-easy to install, super easy to configure and well annotated with mouse-over tool tip helpers, just in case you don't know what each setting enables you to do. Best yet, the IE7 problem for my friend is now solved and she doesn't have to start over with a whole new layout.
Thank you!

| struggling to configure by donkeymusic, May 11, 2007 |

I have had this working on a previous version on a local machine and no that i am trying to configure the latest version on a live machine i can not get this to run and seem to have tried eveything.
I am at the point where i cant even get the default image to show, if i delete the default image it shows the red cross in a box if i return the image, the module shows up blank. and the debug states the image needs correcting although all files destinations are correct.
Gone to developes site where it has a small forum but can not see where to post a thread

| Works nicely by ajmudrak, April 26, 2007 |

It does what it is supposed to do. My plans were to simply have an image show for a particular category, and this was easily achieved by naming image files according to the category ID. It seems even more useful than I planned, being able to assign images to authors, sections, articles, etc. as well.
One suggestion to the author. I found a problem where the option for "Use default file option=no" doesn't work properly, and tries to show the default image anyway. Adding the following to line 334 of mhi_classes.inc (should be the first line in the switch on $mode case for 'default' in selectContextImage), and an end-if bracket at the end of the case, will fix the issue:
if ( $this->params->Default->Use!='0' ) {
}

| SMART works great by tjyoung, April 10, 2007 |
|
I've read some reports about the SMART feature not working so I was a little hesitant to waste a bunch of time trying to get it to work right. Well it does work and once you get your brain wrapped around it, it works great.
Here's the deal:
I'm using it on a site that I need specific header images for components as well as sections as well as random images for just 'plain pages'.
My experience is to do the following:
Use the option in the settings to create a folder for each component and drop the image in there. For example I wanted a specific image for com_search, so you create a folder called; com_search and drop your image in there 'I called it image_1.jpg'
Now when you click on that component link, the correct image gets pulled up, no problem with any of the components I've used it with.
Sections work just like the Wiki says, just use the right naming convention for them. You can even get it right down to specific header for a specific page.
And for the rest that aren't 'assigned' to any specific section etc. the header image can be random.
Like I said, bit of a bugger to get it straight in your head, but once working, I'll use it everywhere from now on.
Great job!

| Just what I needed, plus extras by nnettsplace, April 8, 2007 |
|
Just installed this module, so I haven't used it extensively. The excellent rating is for the alternate headers option. My website is mainly for genealogy and family history. But I have a section that I use for other hobbies and galleries. I've been trying to sort out a way to do that, when I came across this in a search.
Got it running in about 10 minutes -- read the documentation! I use graphical navigation with my header image via a usemap, and by selecting the:
linked to: current section
operation mode: use for table backgrounds
combined with a transparent png with the usemap="#id" and map coords as an image in the div that has the alternate header as a background, a div in which to embed the alternate header as a background via the style="" statement, and a div for the entire header, it works! (style="background: transparent url('mosLoadModules('header');') no-repeat;")
Can't wait to play with the other settings.
Awesome.
