This module allows to change images or animations based on the current Context a Joomla Page is in. Section-, Category-, Main Menu, Current Menu Item, Content or Author ID of the actual content are correlated to images that this module shows.
Supports default image file, checks for presence of image files, random default images and Slideshow of images.
With its ability to support HTML Code integration also Flash files or any other webobjects can be used in addition to static images.
And more: Multiple instances of the module and instance locking between them, time and date rules for activation allow even more flexibility to display different sets for days, weeks, holiday periods. Multilanguage support in combination with JoomFish to localize image sets to different languages.
Or in other words: Everything but the kitchen sink.

Just installed this module, so I haven't used it extensively. The excellent rating is for the alternate headers option. My website is mainly for genealogy and family history. But I have a section that I use for other hobbies and galleries. I've been trying to sort out a way to do that, when I came across this in a search.
Got it running in about 10 minutes -- read the documentation! I use graphical navigation with my header image via a usemap, and by selecting the:
linked to: current section
operation mode: use for table backgrounds
combined with a transparent png with the usemap="#id" and map coords as an image in the div that has the alternate header as a background, a div in which to embed the alternate header as a background via the style="" statement, and a div for the entire header, it works! (style="background: transparent url('mosLoadModules('header');') no-repeat;")
Can't wait to play with the other settings.
Awesome.

First off, i'd like to say that this module is great! It has met the needs of many client requests and provides a perfect solution for adding particular images on specified pages..
images can be loaded by Section, Category, or even ItemID... it also allow you to embed flash if necessary.
Michael Pillwax is a smart developer and provides feedback if you just ask.. he released a new version (1.70) after 12hours of reporting a bug.. now thats commitment!

| Works great - take your time to read the docs by nkendrick, February 26, 2007 |

Ah, this module does just what I need - many thanks!
Installation and implementation are quite simple. As you can see from other posts, the main 'problem' people have is understanding how to name the image files correctly so READ THE ONLINE DOCS. If you follow the instructions you will be fine - I was up and running in Smart Mode in about 10 mins.

I was unnecessarily looking for two different modules when this one did both flawlessly! I was looking to have on my homepage, a rotating set of header images with transitions and found the Flash JPG Rotator - nothing but headaches getting it work with Infinity Menus placed above it. The other thing I was looking to do was have a specific static image for each section when I found this. I didn't even realize that this mod had the option to designate an image folder and set up rotating, transitioning images for headers until after I installed it. It immediately fixed the issue I was having with Infinity Menus and works brilliantly for my static headers. Very nice job. Highly recommended.

Micheal has helped me with a couple small issues I had and everything is perfect!
I've been waiting for a module like this for months and I finally found the one I wanted! I dig this over AJAX Rotating one everyone is falling over, because this is the only one you need.
Donating to his cause.

The parts that work work very well and constitute this modules only redeeming qualities. The link to section and link to category features, along with the proper coding for cross browser support of the slide show make this module worth having. That's the upside. The "SMART" feature doesn't work at all - this feature will definitely be worth having when it gets working. The link to a "component" feature doesn't work without SMART mode (as far as I can tell). The documentation is confusing and incomplete. The whole thing is very frustrating and while the author requests users make their queries on "Sourceforge", it doesn't appear that many people have actually resolved any of these issues. The "WIKI" that is so highly acclaimed is also confusing and lacks any clearcut instructions.
Again - what works works very well. If you can get by on ONLY linking to categories and sections, this module will definitely be worthwhile. Even in that instance, the documentation is incomplete. Owner's reply: SMART Mode requires understanding on how to formulate the image file names. That is crucial for that to work.
Any questions to it are best posted in the discussion forums at the projects homepage. The module is fully functional to 100% as it is used on our corporate internet portal with the same version as available.

This module is simple to install, and fast to learn. In moments I overcame a hurdle I was wrestling with for some time. I plan to use this module with multiple clients. Thanks for the great tool!

Very unfortunate that posters here do not want to share their usage problems. The projects homepages is http://forge.joomla.org/sf/projects/mod_header_image
and there usage reports can be posted to the discussion forum.
The modules debug mode is intended as information to be posted along with the problem seen, so that we developers can improve the modules code.
Open Source lives from the feedback of its users that allow us to improve the software and redistribute it to all users in open form with no fees attached.

| "Smart" mode did not work by mahuti, March 20, 2006 |

This is great for targeted headers, it's an excellent way to show users that they're in special sections, or just to provide a little change of scenery.
The standard modes worked fine for me out of the box. Unfortunately the smart mode did not work at all. The smart mode is intended to allow you to apply your headers to individual items, or across entire sections, rather than having to pic just one. You apply different header to sections, categories, content items, or item ids based on the naming convention, rather than applying to one single item. Unfortunately, this did not work for me. There is a debug mode, but it didn't tell me much that I didn't know, and the information it provided was not enough to track down the problem, or to submit anything other than a generic "this didn't work" bug report to the author. Not so smart after all.
Nice, but flawed. If it works for you, then you'll find it very nice addtion. Owner's reply: Owner's reply:
