Beautify your pdf's with the Joomla PrettyPDF
Out of the box Joomla frontend is able to dynamically generate a pdf-file of the content item shown. This, however, is not really presentative for your business because it lacks your housestyle items like font, colors, templates and logos. Now PrettyPDF comes to the rescue and more! PrettyPDF offers you control of fonts, colors, housestyle templates and allows you to even add promotional material to the generated pdf-file.

Hello,

I recently purchased this component and it does everything the promo says. You can create beautiful PDF templates. I even find the customer service helpful. However, I think that before you purchase, you ought to know what the component DOESN'T do, to make sure that you don't end up like myself - with an installation of a $40 commercial component that is not even published on my site...

So, here are the features that this component is desparately missing:

1. Table rendering functionality. The lack of this is prohibitive if you have tables on your pages. Your table will be rendered in separate lines cell-by-cell, thus making the information therein incomprehensible, and the PDF turns out ugly.

2. The component cannot wrap text around images as it appears on your site. Instead, each image appears in its own line, totally breaking up the text. The only option is the have all of the centered, or aligned to the left...

Anyways, if these two issues are resolved, this component will earn its name. In its current state, you can only call it prettyPDF if you forget your tables and text wrapping in your PDFs.

Amazing Support! by webgyrl, January 3, 2008

I purchased PrettyPDF to use on a client site some months ago. We were using it for a very specific purpose of showing the client poetry images. PrettyPDF did not do exactly what we wanted and I contacted the developer John. Wow, I'm amazed with his service. He has spent the last few months tweaking PrettyPDF for us with amazing results. John totally did not have to go above and beyond to make this right for us, but he did. Hands down, Joomla At Work has provided me the BEST customer service I have ever had for a Joomla component. As far as the component goes, it's exactly what we needed for the site and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Very very nice by bugsbunny, April 6, 2007

Misleading by jbrowdy, March 11, 2007

I hate to give a bad review, but in this case, I have little choice. I took a chance on this component based on everything that I read. According to the forum posts on the developer's website, and the changelog for the component, it would appear that you can create your "Pretty" PDF with proper image alignment. As it turns out, you can only define whether you want *all* your images to align left, right or center. Further, the images do not float next to content- there is a line break after each image.

On the surface, this does not seem like a big deal, but when you consider the purpose of the component, it is a major flaw. The component is supposed to "brand" your content as belonging to your site; at the same time, it is supposed to make your material look professional. However, if you have images in your content- which many people do- the output looks "thrown together" and unprofessional.

I concede that if you do not have images, the output looks great and the component otherwise does what it is supposed to do. But, that is a big "if"- again a major flaw.

I am dissapointed, as I paid $50 US dollars for this component and simply cannot get the attention of the developer. The developer's site has no contact information- so the only way to get support is to post in the forum. Thus far, I have flooded the forums with absolutely no responses.

To the developer's credit, I have read from others that support has been excellent. I, unfortunately, have not been on the receiving end of good support for this component.

If the component were free, I could understand the lackadaisical support, but relatively speaking, this is an expensive component.

I have suggested to the developer that he or she at least allow a user to select an option in the backend that add a float tag to all images. I think this is a reasonable solution. I looked into doing it myself, but I simply do not know enough about coding to even try it. Furthermore, the license agreement prohibits hacking.

Looks like I'm stuck. If I hear back from the developer, I will re-post.

Excellent Service by thomas.dahl, February 16, 2007

Well, I bought several products from these guys and asked them to install. They were very fast and friendly. I had some minor issues with PrettyPDF and they came right back with some solutions and even created a new rev to address my issues (and other issues I'm sure) within hours.

The product is maturing nicely and keeps getting better quickly. PDF is something which has been poor in joomla for some time and this prodcut addresses those concerns nicely as well as adding the bells and wistles that will ensure a long and loyal following. Worth the money!!

Limitations by notajungian, February 14, 2007

A few limitations of which to be aware:

Doesn't process CSS.

All images are printed in the middle of the page regardless of original alignment.

Tables are rendered cell-by-cell. Thus, pages with tables (and especially nested tables) are problematic.

A nice tool if you don't plan to use images or tables (and can afford the approximately $50).

Other PDF extensions can't compete with this one! It looks like the best features in one product. It's easy to use, fast and slick! Perfect for montly newsletters which I send to family all over the world. It's seemless integration is a big plus! Worth every penny!

PDF output that works by Stanley, January 1, 2007

Been looking for this. At last the possibility for a nice layout pdf file, well almost. I use iJoomla magazine on my site and not everything is useable. Had a minor issue with a gif file which quickly were fixed by the great staff at Joomlatwork, the send me a new file which fixed the issue I had.
Could use some more backend possibilities in setting up the layout, but it surely is better than standard Joomla pdf.

Good work but... by jdude, December 29, 2006

I just wanted to share a few observations:

1. On your website, every time I click the PDF button on ANY page with a PDF icon, the same large PDF file containing the product information pops up instead of a PDF version of the specific content for that particular page.

2. After the PDF window is closed, clicking on most menu items from the top menu creates the following error message:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/Richard/domains/joomlatwork.com/public_html/administrator/components/com_jreprettypdf/fpdf_jre.php:1024) in /home/Richard/domains/joomlatwork.com/public_html/administrator/components/com_jreprettypdf/fpdf_jre.php on line 1018
FPDF error: Some data has already been output to browser, can't send PDF file

3. €39.00 price tag (about $80.00) makes the plugin out of range for many people who use Joomla! CMS to create websites. A more reasonably priced extension may generate more income based on volume sales for you and will also eliminate the pressure from other developers who out of desperation may develop a similar component and release it for free or at a lower price.

This is just my opinion, otherwise it looks like a fine Joomla! plugin.
Keep up the good work.

JD

..as the website is called ;)
I have been asking about enhanced PDF features like branding with logo and tiles & images from time to time in Core, then there were rumours of PDF generation getting removed, and now finally a good solution comes along.
Great job, if it was 1/2 the price, just looking at the screenshots I'd have bought it. Maybe I will for another site someday.
Thanks for creating another of those "missing links" in Joomla!
