This is a Community Builder plugin cum Joomla component that allows your users to have their own profile URLs, eg www.domain.com/hello_world. For those who already know about the profile URL functionality of CB, this plugin is quite different.
- Allows users to edit their profile URL (!!!)
- Allows admin to ban certain names to be used
- Works for Windows IIS users
- Editing of profile URL by users is done in AJAX, so changes are made real time
- Profile URL remains as the browser's URL (!!!)
- No editing of htaccess required (!!!)
- Works with 3rd party SEF (!!!)
- Requires sh404SEF or Artio JoomSEF (new!) to be installed (may work on other 3rd party SEF component - untested)

How It Works
============
The all new Profile URL functions hand-in-hand with sh404SEF/Artio JoomSEF. How it works is rather straightforward:
- Make sure you have sh404SEF/Artio JoomSEF installed and configured properly. It doesn't matter if you use htaccess or not.
- Install, publish (as public) and configure the Profile URL CB plugin.
- Install the Profile URL Joomla component.
- Go to Components > Profile URL > Sync Profile Names, then click on the Sync link.
- This will populate jos_redirection (used by sh404SEF and other 3rd party SEF components) with all the necessary links. Your Profile URL should work now! Try it!
- Whenever a user edits his profile name, the redirection link that pointed to his previous profile url is deleted, and a new one is created to point to his new profile url.
- Whenever a user registers, a new redirection link is created for him.
- Whenever you delete a user, his entry in the redirection table is removed.
- Important note! If you have configured your sh404SEF/Artio JoomSEF to function without a file suffix, it is highly recommended that you configure the Profile URL CB plugin to include a Profile Name File Suffix! (eg: .html). This will reduce/prevent conflict with your existing links. Profile URLs will always override site links!

Upgrading From Previous Profile URL?

Upgrading from the previous Profile URL is easy!
- Uninstall the old CB plugin.
- Remove the ErrorDocument 404 line from your htaccess file.
- Install and configure sh404SEF/Artio JoomSEF (if you haven't)
- Install the new CB plugin and component as per instructions above. Your users will not lose their previous profile urls!

TIP:

Without .htaccess your url will look like this www.mydomain.com/index.php/username

With .htaccess your url will look like this www.mydomain.com/username

Let me be blunt - if you are running CB and not using this component, you are doing a disservice to yourself and your users! This gives your users exactly what they want - direct URL access to their profiles. Turn your profile pages into vibrant, interactive areas while giving your users the feeling of truly having their own space.

The plugin could not be simpler to install and configure. Great work!!

I was very intrigued by this plugin to give users the ability to have their own web address forwarded to their profile page. However, after two days of trying to get it to work without receiving multiple errors:

I decided to give up. I looked and read through just about every thread on the help forum and found nothing to solve my problem. I am no newbie to Joomla! and I hope I was just missing something that was impressively simple to fix.

I am also using ARTIO JoomSEF and read on the forum that this integration was not possible and there were no plans in development to make one.

It's a great idea. If it can integrate with SEF's then there would be no reason at all to have this plugin added to the Community Builder default plugins.

I gave it 3 stars, ever though I was not able to get it to work.

I love this plugin. The competition is so harsh (myspace type sites) in the fact that they have everything. You have helped joomla and cb users immensly with this plugin.

Thank you for the quick and helpful support.
I hope to see many more good joomla creations from you.
I will be checking your "whats new" quite often and doubt I will go anywhere else for my needs.

Awesome Plugin!

Every single thing about it is perfect... this is more than everyone (who wanted custom url profiles) wished for.

Mike is also very supportive with his customers, when I asked him if he could change/fix this and that, I always got a reply email at most 1 hour later with the attached fixed plugin.

Awesome work! My community loves it.
