 The first video component for Joomla is of course Seyret. It was born because of our needs, but when we published it, the Joomla community really liked it and encouraged us to add new features to it. Now it is feature rich and this developement process will continue. When we say that there are some sites based on only this extension, you can easily understand the value of Seyret.
Let's have a look at some of the features:
First of all we have a very good installation and upgrade system implemented. As all our users agree, the installation and upgrade process are very simple. During the upgrade process, all of your videos and information remain intact.
After you create categories, it is time to add some videos to your site. It generally takes only a few seconds to add a new video. Just copy the video link from one of the supported video sites and paste it to Seyret. That's it! Your intelligent friend will glean all information pertaining to that video and publish immediately after your submission. We currently support 35 video servers, like youtube, google, revver, break etc, and more will come. Also you can use this component to add local videos. As a new feature in 0.2.7 - wmv, mpg, mp3, swf files are also supported. You can upload your flash games and make a game gallery. Don't forget the first aim of this component is to provide a video extension to Joomla, so for a game site, there may lack some features.
Another important feature of Seyret is video download option. After you enable video download option from configuration panel, your users will be able to download your videos from video servers. All of our video server plugins are download option enabled.
Browsing is AJAX based as default. But from config panel you can disable it to make your site more browsable by search bots.
Seyret is fully customizable with its theme system. Just edit template files and css file. We will provide some more themes after Seyret becomes more stabile and feature rich.
We have implemented an advanced permission system. Using the configuration panel, you can define almost every parameter to your user groups. It is very flexible and can be used with or without JACL installed.

This is a good component and arguably the best of its kind.
It has quite a few bugs but don't expect anyone to fix them. There is practically no support, even if you donate - unless some other user voluntarily helps you. |

It took no more than 10 mins to install and start adding videos. There were a few folders that had to be created but all in all an easy installation. This will definitely add a great deal of value to my website. Thank you guys. When I have the money available I will uprgade to the pro version for sure. |

Wow!!--I recently just bought pro version and am super pleased. However, ffmpeg is a **** to install, but in the end works just fine. Would like to see some plugins/modules, but overall a GREAT component!! |

I like this component. It's easy to install and use. I found following issues:
1) The design of video page does not fit to small screens or sites with narrow width. To correct this there should be possibility to show the page in one column. (now in two columns)
2) The look & feel of the component cannot be changed easily.
Some ne new ideas for development:
3) Possibility to import or add clips from any URL
4) Real full screen (like Youtube)
5) linking videos with each other (e.g. three different parts of the same video)
6) Keyword capturing when adding a new video.
7) recognizing broken links or removed videos
8) Combing two menus (1. Videos home, ... 2. Latest, ...) |

When you see so many good ratings (5 stars for pages on end) one gets the idea we have a component that is bulletproof.
Our experience makes us question whose writing the reviews when there is no mention at all regarding the difficulty in getting this thing set up.
It truly is not "Plug N Play"...but once configured works well, UNLESS you are running a site off a shared server such as Godaddy.
Having to configure FFmpeg alone (a prerequisite but not included in the component) is enough to cause a sane man to want to start an international incident.
Our advice, steer clear if you are on a shared hosting account. But if you own your own server or are using an IP with "FFmpeg" already available...then this could be your answered prayer.
Bottom line: Good product! ONCE...you get it working. |

Everything people have said about how good looking and feature-filled the component is are correct, but there are a few very obvious issues. (This relates to the most recent version at the time of writing - 0.2.7.9) They may only be of interest to the technically proficient, but they are still very important to all.
1. Although it is important to turn off notices and error messages in PHP for production purposes, it is vastly more important to ensure you have no errors or notices when developing - that is basic quality control. However, this has clearly not been done - errors and warnings abound, with many quite serious ones. We were forces to fix these before we could consider using this component, I encourage others to do the same. In house we are discussing branching this code to make the changes available, but we have so many OSI type projects we are not sure about taking on another.
2. Although comments appear in the code regarding PHP 5 compliance, the changes show a lack of understanding of PHP-5. I encourage the developers to take some time out and re-read the PHP5 specification. You cannot test PHP-5 issues using PHP-4 engine has is apparently been done when creating the code.
3. Only supports mysql engine not mysqli! Joomla supports both mysql and mysqli engines, even more databases are on the roadmap. This component breaks with the improved mysql engine and so forces users into using the much slower, more buggy, and more resource intensive mysql engine. A real shame. Again, we had to spend time fixing this. This is certainly not the only extension available that displays this problem. Come on devs, RTF(PHP and Joomla)M!
Overall a great idea, with good features, but poorly implemented. Think very carefully before deploying in a production environment. |

Thanks for this great component and your effort, but it looks like you don't care about the web standards. I've never seen an extension/component that generates so many errors in the validation. I usually modify the code to fix some of those problems, but this case is to much!
This component affects my website's layout so I had to removed it!
I hope you could take a look at this!

Even though this says that it's only for Joomla 1.0 if you go to the website they have a beta version for 1.5 for download. I installed it last night and this is totally awesome!!!
I will be upgrading to the pro version very soon!!
