 The first video component for Joomla is of course Seyret. It was born because of our needs, but when we published it, the Joomla community really liked it and encouraged us to add new features to it. Now it is feature rich and this developement process will continue. When we say that there are some sites based on only this extension, you can easily understand the value of Seyret.
Let's have a look at some of the features:
First of all we have a very good installation and upgrade system implemented. As all our users agree, the installation and upgrade process are very simple. During the upgrade process, all of your videos and information remain intact.
After you create categories, it is time to add some videos to your site. It generally takes only a few seconds to add a new video. Just copy the video link from one of the supported video sites and paste it to Seyret. That's it! Your intelligent friend will glean all information pertaining to that video and publish immediately after your submission. We currently support 35 video servers, like youtube, google, revver, break etc, and more will come. Also you can use this component to add local videos. As a new feature in 0.2.7 - wmv, mpg, mp3, swf files are also supported. You can upload your flash games and make a game gallery. Don't forget the first aim of this component is to provide a video extension to Joomla, so for a game site, there may lack some features.
Another important feature of Seyret is video download option. After you enable video download option from configuration panel, your users will be able to download your videos from video servers. All of our video server plugins are download option enabled.
Browsing is AJAX based as default. But from config panel you can disable it to make your site more browsable by search bots.
Seyret is fully customizable with its theme system. Just edit template files and css file. We will provide some more themes after Seyret becomes more stabile and feature rich.
We have implemented an advanced permission system. Using the configuration panel, you can define almost every parameter to your user groups. It is very flexible and can be used with or without JACL installed.

I normally do not rate many extensions and when I do, I use the following criteria:
1. Quality of the Product
2. Features supported
3. Developer Support
4. The ability and desire of the developer team to listen to us end users suggestions - Big one
In all of the above criteria, this product and the dev team came thru with shining colors. I had a problem installing the latest version and when I communicated my error, they responded promptly with solutions and when that failed, they went to my site and fixed it. In that process, they discovered their package had a small bug ( which was causing my installation problem), which they promptly corrected and posted a new package on their website. All this was done within 1 hour of my first forum post. They are incorporating my suggestions along with a lot of others into their new release.
Needless to say, this was very impressive and my kudos to this team. Hence the 5 start rating. The product works flawlessly. |

I am using this great component on two of my websites and it work really well, with a search engine (youtube style) for the videos this will be awesome.
The admin is helpfull aswell, I had a minor issue with the donation due to me having used a test domain he helped me solving it and always answered my PM.

Been struggling to find something this useful for a long time. I have tried to get programmers to build this by paying them and what i got is nothing compared to this beauty.
Hope that this project keep growing.
Would like to see more templates though :)

Brilliant work.
Three seconds to add a video with description and thumb...
My video gallery uses none of my bandwidth and I upload all videos I need to Director's Account at Youtube now.
Clean, adaptable style.
No real problems except getting back to the main directory is not that prominent or clear (hitting top link in breadcrumb). It's a bit small.

I tried this component and its works very nice. Its really easy to manage and configurate. I already made a spanish language translation that I put in the owners website forum. If you need it just go there and download it. I tested and revised the translation twice so I think its well done. My first language is spanish. |

Very good component. Easy to install and administer.
Layout and design is easy to change due to template and css files. Adding a video costs less than 3 seconds, wow :)
Anyway there is a bug I can't figure out to fix.
Using Firefox browser I always get "411 - Length required" error when trying to watch a video or changing a category. Get this error with a fresh install, not tempered around with the layout etc. Owner's reply: I'll switch xajax to override these problems. |

Well its amazing that its not mentioned that it creates a huge scrollbar at the bottom...
something is making the page wider suddenly.(even on authors site)
you cant add a video from the backend cause there isnt a save button,but it gives you the NEW button..
Furthermore....
if your server uses a few securities like mod_security....then you will have problems...
if you click on the next page image...(gopage)
Then it shows ...Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource..
And i cant find any way to add a video...
and when you click on main category the link is yoursite.com/#videotitle
and that doesnt excist...so you end up at the site index.
Also the author doesnt provide any support / forum to ask questions.
you must register to download so all and all together,...
a big 0 for the component and even less for the support on this. Owner's reply: Yes you're right for all these bugs. But...
A lot of people send mail or write to forums about these bugs politely. Before forums are opened, they all wrote to guest book.
Anyway for 0.2, trying to solve these bugs. Regards. |
