Frontpage Slideshow
*** Version 1.7.2 released, available for Joomla! 1.0 and 1.5! 8 templates, new slideshow engine! ***

*** BRAND NEW exclusive site available now on http://www.frontpageslideshow.net - includes admin demos and site showcase! ***

JoomlaWorks "Frontpage SlideShow" is the most eye-candy way to display your featured articles, stories or products in your Joomla! website, like Time.com, Joost, Yahoo! Movies, Empire Magazine or CNet do.

The "Frontpage SlideShow" creates an uber-cool slideshow with text snippets laying on top of images. These "slides" are being rotated one after the other with a nice fade effect. The slideshow features navigation (either numbers or image thumbnails - check available templates) and play/pause buttons, so the visitor has complete control over the slideshow's "playback"!

Many popular websites feature similar implementations, see for yourself:

JoomlaWorks takes Joomla! content presentation one step further with this new component/module combo! Spice up your site's frontpage by assigning existing content items, menu items or custom text to images that you upload through the component or browse directly on your server! The component can be controlled from both the Frontend and the Backend, so you can even have your publishers uploading and maintaining your "Top Stories" or "Featured Products"!

The component's admin user interface is very clean and easy to learn. Additionally, the styling of the module which displays the slideshow, is entirely CSS based. That means you have full control over the layout of the slideshow and you can easily style it to suit your needs. Which means that the layout options are literally limited only by your imagination.

"Frontpage SlideShow" uses unobtrusive Javascript in its core (no Flash here, at all!), which makes it very easy to customize and integrate in any design and offers SEO capabilities that flash-based alternatives simply cannot match!
No other website will ever share the same looks as yours!

The "Frontpage SlideShow" Component/Module combo from JoomlaWorks retails for 22 Euros and includes FREE upgrades AND FREE templates for series 1.x. We take support very seriously -like we already do with our very popular free extensions- and we will gladly help you setup your "Frontpage SlideShow" to fit your site for free.

The component and module both rely on language files so you can easily translate them to your native language. Furthermore, additional language files will be included as they are gathered from our users.

Enjoy one more fine release from the developers of the "AllVideos" Plugin, the "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin, the "AJAX Header Rotator" Module, the "Tabs & Slides in Content Items" Plugin and many more!

***************************************************************
*** Version 1.7.2 (comp/mod) release - Changelog addition (May 2nd, 2008) ***
***************************************************************
- Updated the jQuery library to the latest release (1.2.3).
- Added sample content (slides) by default to help users see in action how the slideshow works after installing the component and module.
- We have also changed some "default" settings in the module, again to make it easier for newbies to quickly setup Frontpage Slideshow.
- Frontpage Slideshow is fully XHTML valid on all Joomla! and Mambo versions, tested on their default templates.

***************************************************************
*** Version 1.7.1 (comp/mod) release - Changelog addition (February 28th, 2008) ***
***************************************************************
Joomla! 1.5.x compatible version of Frontpage Slideshow v1.7.1 has been released.

***************************************************************
*** Version 1.7.1 (comp/mod) release - Changelog (February 23rd, 2008) ***
***************************************************************
This minor release adds more Global Content Display option in the component's configuration page, addresses javascript errors appearing in the administration when using IE7 and finally corrects a minor bug in the module. Thanks to all our users for the rapid feedback. ;)

***************************************************************
*** Version 1.7 (comp/mod) release - Changelog (February 21st, 2008) ***
***************************************************************
The features of the new version are:
>>General
- Cross platform, plays on Joomla 1.0.x, Mambo 4.5.x, Mambo 4.6.x. Native Joomla 1.5.x version is coming out shortly.
- All technical issues mentioned in our forum for the past few months have been addressed. So soon we will be clearing up those "sticky" posts.

>>Component
- The User Interface of the component is redesigned.
- Added permissions button on slide list (like on content items). You can now choose what slides your guests or members see.
- The old configuration page is gone. A new one has been added to handle some "expert" features. The older layout settings are now moved to the module cause either way they were accessible by super admins only! This will provide even further flexibility and will make the update process easier.
- The new slide edit page has one more "tagline" field (2 content fields in total). This new content field will provide more content options for even cooler FPSS templates.
- Custom text will automatically override content item introtext.
- Ability to select between WYSIWYG/pure text mode for the custom text option.
- You can set content elements to appear on a per-slide basis. That means you can tell one slide to hide the "read more" button and the other to hide the "introtext" for example. Your content display options are not limited anymore!
- Content item selection is now AJAX based. That means, it will not take ages for the "slide edit" page to load if you have 1.000 articles on your Joomla/Mambo site! Performance comes first now!
- The upload feature has been expanded to allow the user to choose the dimensions of the uploaded image or have a fixed value added by default.

>>Module
- The module has been re-written from scratch for better performance and easier styling. New content display options have been added. All "logic" is now separated from styling. That means, if you want to create a new template, you just upload your CSS/images files inside modules/mod_fpslideshow/templates/ and the module will automatically "see" the new template, without you needing to hack core files. This makes it easy for us as well to release FPSS templates separately and thus enriching your experience! Soon, we will be posting a few topics on how to dig deeper into Frontpage Slideshow templating!
- The moo.fx based slideshow engine has been taken out. The Mootools based one has been improved and (drum roll) a new jQuery based slideshow engine has been introduced as the default engine of Frontpage Slideshow. This means no more javascript conflicts with other Mootools based extensions or templates (you know which, haha!).

>>Templates
- The UNCUT template has been revamped. We hope you'll like it. See it on demo here: http://www.frontpageslideshow.net/content/view/14/31/
- 2 new templates (Movies and Sleek) are introduced with the new module. More will come soon as standalone packs to directly upload.

***************************************************************
*** Version 1.1 (comp)/1.6 (mod) release - Changelog (May 18th, 2007) ***
***************************************************************
>>Module
More specifically, in v1.6 we have:
- introduced the Mootools-based slideshow engine. This means ultimate compatibility (along with the moo.fx based engine) with all templates or other Joomla! extensions. You can choose which engine to use from the module's parameters. As you will notice, the Mootools engine offers some more configuration for a better slideshow.
- New "text transition effect" for the Mootools engine (can be activated/deactivated).
- New module option: "HTML tag cleanup", to make sure your slideshow will never break, even if you have HTML tags that are not closed properly, e.g. because you've set a WORD limit in the component's configuration page...
- adjusted the code to be full XHTML/CSS valid. No need to move any code around! If your template validates, then your slideshow will too. Additionally, enabling the HTML cleanup option will make sure that your content it valid as well.
- added 1 more template (JJ Rasper), increasing the total number of templates available to 6. Check out the new templates at our DEMO site at http://demo.joomlaworks.gr
- both CSS and script files are less than 8-10kb (on average), for fast loading time.

>> Component
- Introduced new content display options. Now you can add custom (regular) links, links to content items or links to menu items. You can even insert custom text for use with the "regular" and "menu item" link options. So now you are not tied to your content items introtext!
- Added direct image server browse feature. Not only do you have the option to upload (and automatically resize) images right from your PC/Mac, now you can use existing images from your server, with our new SERVER BROWSE functionality, integrated in the component.
- Fixed minor styling issues to achieve maximum browser/site compatibility.
- Fixed some bugs and reformed code for more strict server setups.
- Added full compatibility for Mambo.
- Fixed slide delay/speed issue.
- Moved all module settings in the component. Which means that you install the module, publish it and forget about it! All settings are now controlled through the component only.

More than worthy investment by bristophocles, May 22, 2008

This package is sick. Component and module make for ease of installation and implementation. Backend is idiot proof and easy. I've never dealt with a third party module that integrated so seamlessly with absolutely no headaches implementing it. I could have spent a day or so making this myself. I also could have spent that time hitting myself in the head with a croquet mallet and it's all the same. Templates provided fit my site like a glove, and their easily configurable. Can't say enough. You won't regret shelling out $35 US or so, and I'm a stickler, I almost always go the hard way before paying for third party packages.

So simple I almost took it for granted... by panzerknacker, March 29, 2008

I was working on implementing a different slide component, but it was unfortunately not yet mature enough and there were issues due to my Tocket Theme template. Having seen the forum topics on Rocket Theme for this module made me even more sceptic, until I read the release notes for the newest version which indicated there are no longer problems for those with an RT theme.

I bought it, installed it and it worked flawlessly right out of the box. It's setup is very simple and adding slides is a piece of cake for anyone with little technical knowledge and above all it looks good. I do wish there would be a bit more customization options though, or more themes. Although from the supplied themes, anyone should be able to make a choice.

Totally worth the money.

Excellent by Ave93, March 23, 2008

Very easy to use, and simple. If you don't know Flash or don't have the macromedia software, this gives you a a very professional-looking slideshow. Well worth the membership.

Poor support by jscutler, February 24, 2008
0 of 1 people find this review helpful:
This component looks great and works pretty well too, but I have to knock it down several grades due to the support issues and delays.

The developer makes numerous promises as to specific dates for fixing bugs, adding features or releasing upgrades but he never follows through. Then he gets extremely defensive if you call him on it.

Bottom line, make sure the product works as is before you buy it because if you wait for a fix you'll be waiting a long time.

suckerfish/ie bug by milarepa, February 11, 2008

It would be a good extension except it conflicts with suckerfish menus in IE, rendering it useless to my site. Tech support was not very helpful with the issue, many people with similar problems received no help with it.

Owner's reply:
Not true. This is an issue caused by various -bad coded- templates and we have even published a proposed fix for that here:

too many bugs by pauca, January 21, 2008
0 of 2 people find this review helpful:
I bought the slideshow 2 months ago and had nothing but troubles with it. First of all the joomla core editor is in conflict with slideshow module/component constantly. Its a pain to have the font settings working with all the values. You cant expect clients to install JCE to work with this.It should work with standard joomla. Then I had transparency issues with different templates , where i had to fix some ccs settings in the modules. The last discovery was that google adsense messes up the entire slideshow lay-out. I saw my frontpage looking as a jigsaw puzzle.
No, i would suggest the owners first to develop a stable version before asking money for such a product.

Pauca

Owner's reply:
These issues have been successfully addressed with the latest 1.7 version of Frontpage Slideshow. They were actually caused by Mootools when using the Internet Explorer browsers and in the backend of Joomla! only. ;)

Good job by Naskur, December 30, 2007

I realy like this component and corresponding module. Works out of the box! Only glitch I've found is that images are fysically deleted from server when deleting slides from the slide list.

problems with joomla by uvafanatic100, December 13, 2007
0 of 2 people find this review helpful:
I just bought this component and having problems. I tried it on my site and the images were working fine but no text was showing up. After switching to JCK mambot editor, suddenly all my editors stopped working. Thats probably unrelated...

But then i tried the slideshow on a test server. The slideshow wont load. I checked the forum and tried their fixes but nothing. I posted on teh support forum and its been a day and no reply. A little frustrated that there are so many problems for a component that is not even free.

Owner's reply:
Editor conflict issues have been successfully addressed in the latest v1.7.

Good Slideshow by cascoverz, November 8, 2007

The slideshow itself is ok. Incompatible with some templates using mootools.

They are already promising for over 6 months to provide new updates for this slideshow and SIGPRO, but everytime delay delay delay delay. Hope it will come before 2009.

Slide Show Works Great by bkolipano, October 9, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
This component is a must for any website. It takes your small space on your front page and increases the capability to put rotating content and link automatically. I like this component and found it easy to use. The only comment I have is that I have to use Opera Browser because it doesn't like Internet Explorer to make changes. Other than that it's fun and easy to use.

Good component - Nice Display Optoins by holdencreative, September 17, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Frontpage Slideshow is a very nice, straightforward slideshow component.

1. Create 'Slides' and upload photos
2. Set the module and display
3. Done.

There are a few issues that people should be aware of, for example, the slide show has to be fixed-width - so this won't necessarily work for all variable-width templates (resizable sites).

But the developers have included a number of great display options for the Slide Show (thumbnails, text over image, etc) - which are all highly configurable.

There are a few very small bugs (home page display) but other than that, great component.

Support anyone? by thelizardreborn, July 24, 2007
0 of 2 people find this review helpful:
Looking through the reviews, it seems that forum support for FPSS has dwindled since the component was first released. Multiple posts containing a variety of questions have not been responded to in the past few days.

My own question about a problem uploading files has not been answered, even though it is completely preventing me from using the component.

Besides support issues and the problem I'm having, the installation was straightforward, and the instructions for using the component are detailed. I look forward to solving my problem and using this component, but hope is dwindling.

This is the one by SuperGuido, June 24, 2007

This is the one piece you need to really give your page some POP and I mean it. Once we installed this and replaced our frontpage static stuff with it our testers said "Wow!" and I truly believe this component/module had a lot to do with the new wow-factor we have.
