 GroupJive is a social networking component that creates Groups for users in the Joomla CMS! GroupJive can be used to enhance an existing site or as the basis around which to build a social network.
GroupJive provides all registered Joomla! users the ability to create groups, join together with other users and generate content that is unique to their Group(s). GroupJive supports a group bulletin with WYSIWYG options, compatibility with almost all Joomla! PMS systems, a Plugin for Community Builder, a series of Modules that enhance the GroupJive user experience and direct integration between Groups and various Joomla! components which then generate their content inside the GroupJive Groups. GroupJive currently integrates with:

+ FireBoard 1.0.3 stable
+ EventList 0.8.10
+ JomComment 1.8.10
Groups are based on three privilege levels which determine a users ability to access and join groups:
* Open to all - (open to all registered users)
* Approval to join - (requires Moderator to approve membership)
* Invite to join - (membership is by invitation only)

This project was going to be the next big Joomla component. Such hype, so much anticipation, sooo needed!
What happened?
I give it a 4 because it's still the only game in town if you need groups. |

I had a great hope/expectation about the project.
I though it would be as cool as Orkut's Community system.
But, totally disappointed.
Beside creating a Group and Members joining them, nothing special can be done. E.g -
No private discussion. Only single post without 'reply' option.
No private poll system available.
The code itself is so complex that even other developers can 't design a SEF plugin for it.

Groupjive is an excellent option for community sites that want the people meet others, collaborate, and make grow you site.
Installation is very easy, and learning curve is so fast, so no need to read manuals, or such thing. Just works out of the box!!
In minutes you are making categories and groups, and making you site more socialnet alike.

I have been following Groupjive since the beginning. I have groupjive on all of my community sites and I've built quite a few client websites with groupjive included.
Yes, the project was dropped a while back, but with the current crew's dedication to bugfixes, templating, and framework, this component will be the one to watch for in the most downloaded module of this webpage.
The features in 1.6BETA and the soon to be RC1 are rich with user enhancements over the original groupjive.
This component is a must have for webmasters looking to expand and encourage involvement from their users.

I just began using this component about a month ago and have had great success thus far. The component installed easily with no issues. I was also able to integrate with Community Builder, Eventlist, and Fireboard 1.0.3 with no troubles at all.
This component works very well for social networking communities where you want to empower the users to create their own groups. The added bonus of being able to use Fireboard to give your groups a private forum area, and Eventlist to allow groups to plan actual events if desired is something long needed in the Joomla community.
The only downside so far is the fact that its still in Beta with some very minor bugs. However visiting their forums shows that they are very actively working on releasing a stable version which might even be available by the time you read this. I've had nothing but success using Groupjive on my writing community site |

WOW Fantastic !!!
I really love this great joomla extension.
From my point of view you will need following to build up a cool social network / community site:
1.) Joomla
2.) THE Community Bulder
3.) GROUPJIVE
(which combines the also need Forum (FIREBOARD) calender( EVENTLIST) and Private messaging (whatever)
Groupjive is very extential to building -yeah-groups with own calender and own forum that real hot stuff
YOU will like it - like i do

The title says it all...
This is an exceptional component for any budding community site. Installation of the beta 1.6 with Joomla 1.0.13 and CB1.1 was a breeze.
A good set of modules and of course the obligatory CB profile tab are also evident with this component.
This is the best asset so far to my community site, I thoroughly recommend it.

I found this a pretty interesting extension for Joomla, but there are a few things that I would like to point out. When I installed on my regular site it went to a blank page, when I installed it on a test site. It worked on my test site. I figured that I had something on my test site that I didn't have on my normal site. Then I read that it 'works with' community builder. I had that on my test site, but not my regular site. So it doesn't work with out Community Builder. Next when I first created a group, It said that some MySql Queries where missing, but once I edit the group that disappered. Other than those few minor flaws this works great for me. Nice! Owner's reply: Matthew

This component is cool, although development seems to have died off and problems are seldom answered in the forums, it has great potential and works quite well.

Great start to an extension that offers a long needed functionality of Joomla!
Wish it integrated with MISSUS, which is a much better PMS than the ones integrated (UDDEI, PMS, JIM).....:( |
