GMaps 1.2
GMaps is a Joomla component extension (plugin and other mapping extensions are available offered as SUBSCRIPTIONWARE) that enables you to build and manage map data from the backend admistration panels with a user-friendly interface. You can easily create markers, maps and then add those markers to each individual map. The maps can be rendered via a basic front-end interface. Key features include:

- Database driven map data
- Request for driving directions to the marker directly from the information popup window
- Back-end adminstration pages to build and maintain individual maps
- Ability to define a marker and its attributes (i.e. title, latitude, longitude, description and icon)
- Map specific properties (i.e. height, width, zoom level, zoom type, maptype, etc.)
- Ability to create unlimited maps and markers
- Define specific icons per marker (limited list is provided)
- Associate maps to other maps (markers from one map are automatically rendered on the other)
- Front-end component that enables the user to list and view all of the available maps defined
- Define your own icons to be used in generating the maps
- Supports images within the markers pop-up window!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration is NOT required to download the component but is required to post on the forums. Paid support is available. Some additional extensions, including a PRO version with additional features, are offered to subscribers only including the PLUGIN/MAMBOT that may be mentioned in the any review that appears on this site.

Works perfectly with Joomla 1.x by jeffreyd00, June 20, 2008
Worked our of the box. It would be nice to have a built in lookup for longitude and latitude. After some searching I was able to find itouchmap.com which gives you accurate long/lat figures.

Lastly, it would benefit from some interface and sort option improvements. All in all, well worth the install.

Special thanks to the developer!

Nope, not ready by sescoyote, May 13, 2008
Wouldn't install properly on a fresh install on 1.5.3. The kicker was that I searched for a solution to the problem in their website....only to find out that I needed to upgrade to the PRO version to get the issue resolved. Not thanks.

Interactive maps in your Joomla site by gChambers, February 21, 2008
gMaps (specifically gMapsPro) is terrific. Great way to leverage the power of Google MyMaps to present a highly interactive map experience within your Joomla website. I used it to graphically display the all the South American distribution centers that my client operates. Each distributor's marker can contain text and graphics along with a link to a Contact Us form (ChronoForm). There is also cool Community Builder integration but I've not had the opportunity to use that yet. gMapsPro for 1.5 is still in RC stage running in legacy. Has a few rough edges that hopefully will be addressed in upcoming releases. Documentation could be beefed up as well.

Excellent. Got my google maps again! by johnkjennings, February 10, 2008
One thing I was missing on my new Joomla site was my old google map. This was exactly what I was looking for.

Amazing by tylermitchell, December 15, 2007
I tested every other mapping extension out there and this one actually works! I use GMaps Pro with CB Plugin and it works beautifully!
Chris offers awesome support and knows his stuff! His component is the core of my site - thanks Chris!

Only this one works good by gelauff, December 15, 2007
I've tried several other Google Maps components, they were all very hard to get working and most of all far to complicated for the Joomla end-user, who's often a dummy.
Chris's one works perfectly right out of the box. Besides that he provides a mambot, which enables any end-user to work with it with ease. Okay, for the mambot (not the component) you must subscribe for 15 or 20 dollars, but that's peanuts compared to the quality.
Good stuff, Chris, I'm under the impression that I'm stealing from you.

Excellent Mod and 1st class support !!! by dave_logic, November 18, 2007
Although I haven't finished implementing this into my live site what I have seen so far is really excellent. Lots of features and possibilities. I have installed the CB plugin which is the best part in my opinion buy had a few issues installing due to my very old version of MySQL. Within 5 hours of posting in the support forums Chris was in contact with me and not only resolved the install issue but helped me taylor it to my needs. 10/10 for the module/component and 11/10 for the support.!!

Great Maps! by holdencreative, September 17, 2007
I was shocked by how well-made and thought-out this component is, especially considering that it is fairly new.

GMaps allows you to easily create a map(s) with custom markers, and even add 'overlays' (combo maps, with different category/marker content).

This should be a big help to many organizations, not-for-profit and others included - it's now pretty easy to manage your maps.

Thanks!! Great work.

Update to 1.0.1 by janieluk, August 9, 2007
I lost my entire site to a hacker thanks to V1 of this component on August 1st. The vulnerability is fixed in the new version, but you might want to keep a very close eye out for further problems if you do choose to install this.

GMaps rocks!!!! by philipissa, July 22, 2007
Awesome component! I tried Google Maps API first, and although it is good it was not as flexible as GMaps. Was especially impressed by the quality of the code, very clean and written better than most components out there. You obviously put a lot of work into the design of this component, and didn't just throw it together. Strong work!

Wow! by Annaleen, July 16, 2007
Great support, frequently updated, what's more to say?

Latitude longitude by stevent, July 5, 2007
The problem with this, and other Google Map components, is that you manualy have to add the latitude and longitude. This very time comsuming when you hve a large amount of markers and not so easy if you build a site for an average Joe, who needs to manages the markers himself.
I've build a site that eventualy will contain over 600 markers on 12 maps.

Great Mapping Feature by harley130, June 17, 2007

GMaps should really be called "Mapping For Dummies" because it's that simple to utilize. Once you read through the documentation you can get a map up and running in no time. I already can see great things for this feature on my websites. For the real dummies (like me) out there that install this extension, you just have to include the tag {mosgmap mapid=?}in your content document. Change the "?" to the ID number of the map you want displayed and start adjusting the other features. Thanks Chris for building this extension

I agree by tomt, June 13, 2007

I agree with the many positive posts. This component is easy to install and configure. Some things, like adding images, need some more attention, but the forum of the developer is a big help.

My personal favorite! by NativePages, May 17, 2007

I have to say I love opportunities to use GMaps, especially if it's more creative than mapping someone's business, and the tech support for this product is phenomenal. The toughest thing I've had to do with it was learn where the best sites were for converting addresses into latitude and longitude! Thank you, Chris. Sorry it took so long for me to get over here and say this to you and for you. This is a great mod.
