GMaps 1.2
GMaps is a Joomla component extension (plugin and other mapping extensions are available offered as SUBSCRIPTIONWARE) that enables you to build and manage map data from the backend admistration panels with a user-friendly interface. You can easily create markers, maps and then add those markers to each individual map. The maps can be rendered via a basic front-end interface. Key features include:

- Database driven map data
- Request for driving directions to the marker directly from the information popup window
- Back-end adminstration pages to build and maintain individual maps
- Ability to define a marker and its attributes (i.e. title, latitude, longitude, description and icon)
- Map specific properties (i.e. height, width, zoom level, zoom type, maptype, etc.)
- Ability to create unlimited maps and markers
- Define specific icons per marker (limited list is provided)
- Associate maps to other maps (markers from one map are automatically rendered on the other)
- Front-end component that enables the user to list and view all of the available maps defined
- Define your own icons to be used in generating the maps
- Supports images within the markers pop-up window!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration is NOT required to download the component but is required to post on the forums. Paid support is available. Some additional extensions, including a PRO version with additional features, are offered to subscribers only including the PLUGIN/MAMBOT that may be mentioned in the any review that appears on this site.

My personal favorite! by NativePages, May 17, 2007

I have to say I love opportunities to use GMaps, especially if it's more creative than mapping someone's business, and the tech support for this product is phenomenal. The toughest thing I've had to do with it was learn where the best sites were for converting addresses into latitude and longitude! Thank you, Chris. Sorry it took so long for me to get over here and say this to you and for you. This is a great mod.

A lot of feature, but not easy by thepisu, May 7, 2007

This component has a lot of interesting features, surely it's a good word; but I won't recommend it for a simple use (like a single map "where you are"), I found slightly difficult to config the component, and some bug...

Just love this comp by tvds, May 2, 2007

I just love this Extension.

I found this Extension yesterday and played around with it.
It just works great. Looks good, and you can change the looks easily by changing the CSS.

I use it to show multiple markers on the map

The only miss is zooming in when you click 2x.

Now you have to zoom in manualy when you have a country view and want to see the street details when clicking on a marker.

But the rest... just great !

Sweet Component! by nickolai, April 9, 2007
Great component. I used Google Maps API component before but have switched to GMaps because of the "get driving directions" feature.

easy to install and use.

Gmaps Dutch by adosana, April 4, 2007
Only I can say is: Excellent component. I changed the code for my website which is written in Dutch. So the pop-up and directions are in Dutch. I wasn't able to contact Gmaps team (I don't know how?)to share the translation so if anybody likes to have Gmaps in Dutch we will find the way to share it. Thanks to Gmaps team!

Great start! by orlandowebdesigns, March 25, 2007
Had this displaying on the front end in about 10 minutes. I would like to see the ability to clone/copy this would eliminate the need to add long/lat multiple times for a map that had numerous categories.

I have done extensive work in drupal already and would love to assist.

Great Component with even better Customer support! by imaaxx, March 25, 2007
Thank you for a great component that does exactly what it says. The best part is this component does dot ask you to log in to Firefox to use it like the other Google Maps component does. This component seems very well written and works well in all browsers.

I required some assistance from the “Gmaps Forum” and my questions were answered very quickly. In my opinion that was the icing on the cake, imagine a great module with great support well that’s what these guys have done.

I wish my paid site memberships provided half as good service as Gmaps does.

Again, Awesome Job! Keep up the great work and service!

Great component in continuous improvement by mbariou, March 12, 2007

Chris is doing a great work with his component, try it, test it. Don't forget in a first time to install : 1- The component, -2 the list module, -3 the mambot plugin. Go directly in the admin and configure a test map, some markers and come back to the front-end immediately. From the list map in the left zone you have immediat access to your map. Really a breeze through, some feed back to Chris to proceed ahead are welcome.

Great work! by shadman, February 26, 2007

Finally, some one has put the separate pieces together in one component. I used to have to use two separate mapping components to get the same type of features as this one provides. Its a great start, intiuitive to use, and has a nice admin design and layout too. Well done! Author provides quick answers to questions in his forum.

Very powerful component & plugin. It took me a while to dial it in but well worth the effort.

Keep up the good work******

Definately keep your eye on this one... by ChaosKnign, February 24, 2007

After a bit of a hiccup with the install (I know it can't be perfect, it's BETA) I got this puppy up and running.

It has excellent potential, although even in its BETA stage it is already useful enough to put on production websites. I would tag this extension as a definite favorite and keep my eye on its progress.

NOTE: The developers website is blocked in China. Find another way to get to his site... an*cough*ony*cough*miz*cough*ers.

WOW - Very powerful by GreatJava, February 23, 2007

I love it when something installs and just works. Other map components I tried either didn't handle multiple markers or didn't have the ability to embed in a page (a mambot piece). I had resorted to using custom javascript in an article content.

This component also lets you put markers on multiple maps and even create aggregate maps with something called "overlays" which I plan to use on another site. Way cool! Thanks firestorm-technologies.
