RokSlideshow
** 3.0.3 many fixes including Joomla 1.5 SEF Fix, Ken Burns animation fix, width/height fix. New features include ability to show/hide titles, and a progress bar showing image loading status. **

RokSlideshow enables you to display a series of images and captions, and transition between them in a configurable manner. This version is all new and utilizes a mootools 1.0 based slide-show that is capable of advanced effects such as "Ken Burns Effects", "Fades", "Wipes", "Pushes". Also the module has the ability to choose from 30 transition types include bounce, elastic, exponential, etc. All configurable via the module parameters. Completely rewritten for 3.0 it now support hyperlinks, transitions on the first image, more configuration options, and also native Joomla! 1.0 and 1.5 versions.

Great, but one small issue... by JohanSoderstrom, September 10, 2007
This is supernice, exactly what I was looking for except one small (BIG) issue.

I cannot load this module several times in the same possition. I am trying to have several of them next to eachother in my header showing pictures. I would then like them to act in unison (changing images simultaniously) and above all I would like it to be possible, at the moment I get an javascript error saying that it cannot initialize imagelist() twice. Understandable, but I would still like to do this :)

Otherwise - perfect!

Good Slide Show by fishjd, July 19, 2007
This is a good slide show module with a very extensive selection of transitions and fades. A modicum of documentation on would be helpful, but anyone with experience with Joomla will get it running in minutes.

Make sure you check out http://www.electricprism.com/aeron/slideshow/ which is the base Javascript for this module. It has good examples on the parameters and transitions.

Cons: Works best with images of one size, the auto-resize some times cropped the image or stretched the beyond acceptable limits. On some transitions this was not a problem. This is easily fixed by standardizing the size of your images.

work nicely, just some minor observation by lbo, July 11, 2007
as said in another review, images *must* have lowercase extension (image.jpg and *not* image.JPG).

otherwise they'll be ignored and if you have only uppercase extension images you'll obtain an error (mine were around row 111 and involved $sortAux variable, so if you experience the same you know what it is).

it would be nice to patch this because all digital camera I know write images with uppercase name and extension in their memory cards.

the other thing I'd like to be worked out is to display "vertical" images correctly: visualization is forced at some given wide & height pixels and images in different orientation are displayed distorted.

anyway, it work fine, it's easy to use and it has some really nice effects. for me it worked fine on ff2, ie7 and o921.

Awesome! by aarongough, June 12, 2007
I crated an account with the Joomla! site specifically to review this module. I love it!
It validates nicely, doesn't insert any generator tags and no HTML quotes saying who made it. Very professionally done!
The only request I have is that the first image displayed should be treated the same way as the rest of the images...
i.e. the first images should pan / zoom like the other displayed images.

A beautiful module that all module developers should use as an example of good design.

Thanks!
Aaron

On Firefox love it, on IE javascript error thrown by jvizueta, May 23, 2007

Let me start by saying I think this is one of the best non commercial slideshow I've seen (when working), FOR ME it worked like a charm on Firefox, but it wasn't so nice on Internet Explorer (my version is 7) where an ugly javascript error was thrown and the slideshow wasn't even shown. On both FF and IE the following error was thrown: "Error: this.events[type].keys has no properties Source File: http://mywebsite.com/modules/rokslideshow/mootools.js Line: 2" (this was copied right from the FF javascript error console). But this didn't stop Firefox from showing the slideshow perfectly, the same didn't happen on IE where another javascript error was found ("Line 54: Object doesn't take this property or method") and images where never shown.

I went to Line 54 of my webpage and I found this code:

myShow = new Slideshow('my_slideshow', {width: 430, height: 200, hu: 'images/stories/fruit/', images: ['cherry.jpg','pears.jpg','peas.jpg','strawberry.jpg'], captions: [' ',' ',' ',' '], duration: [2000, 9000], type: 'combo', pan: '10', zoom: '10', resize: true});

I don't know if it was my mistake, although I think I did every step needed. Anyway something I think would be very helpful indeed is a forum on your website where I would have preferred to post this. Thank you

Great module...careful to keep 'jpg' in lowercase letters! by blmitche, April 21, 2007

I like this module, but had to slog through the .php file to figure out why my pics wouldn't show. Be careful to use lowercase letters in your image extensions! Otherwise, this line won't fill the array with values and you'll get an error message.

if ($file != '.' && $file != '..' && isImage($file))

Problems with LightThumb by vfuente, April 19, 2007

I've some problems using this extension and LightTumb 1.4

LightThumb 1.4 doesn't open the light pop-up, if RokSlideshow is configurated at the same page as Lighthumb:-(

Nice, but a bit tic tac. by DataTrond, April 7, 2007

This is a very nice gallery solution, but I miss the smooth and elegant movement like in flash presentations.
Since I have a background in Graphic Design I might be a bit difficult to satisfy :-)

Great Gallery Module by TWDesigns, April 6, 2007

This is one of those modules that are just great to have for any site. It was simple and easy to setup/use. Everything is laid out nicely.

My only suggestion for future versions is to have Height be able to take "auto" and have it resize pictures accordingly. Some of my images are vertical which looks a little odd since I'm forced to use fixed W and H. Also maybe add the ability to have the module link off to a page when clicked.

I would recommend this to everyone who wants to add some simple and quick effects to their site.

Works great & setup is easy! by perandre, April 6, 2007

I tried it on a local installation, and was very happy with it. RokkSlideshow does not conflict with the Joomlashack Flash Rotator, and even better; it validates! You'll have it work like on the demo in no time.
