BadBehavior is a spambot blocker. It uses a range of filters, like HTTP known headers, IP lists, user-agent strings, and robots.txt conformance to determine if the requesting host is a spambot or a harvester. Use it to get rid of automated spam comments, spam forum postings, or site scrapers. Please take note, the mambot is intended for use with Joomla! 1.0.xx.

To update your Joomla! sites, please remove the old bot, then download and install the latest version. After this step is completed access and reload your frontpage to make the "first run" message go away.

Won't Install by bobmarkwith, April 24, 2008

I was very excited to install this bot. I followed the link to download, and it timed out. I followed the link to homepage, and it timed out. I followed the link in the text of the writeup and got to the site. I downloaded the most recent version and tried to install as mombat. Says there is no installation instructions. Downloaded 2.0.14 and got the same message. Found nowhere to contact developer and get guidance!

I hope I am doing something wrong and it's not in the downloads.

Thank you very much for this bot. It will make my day when it comes to keeping the spammers at bay.

Finding the link to the documentation ws a bit of a headache though.

Best bot (or only bot for spm protection)

I spent three weeks battling spam from Phil-a-Form, and this is the only fix which has actually stopped it.

Very wonderful. Very simple, and it does exactly what it said it was supposed to do.
