Deep Pockets II
Our flagship release for the Joomla! Content Management System is a Content Categorization, Linking and Sub-Templating Component that provides unparalleled flexibility in content display. In very basic terms, Deep Pockets II allows you to build a nested category structure and link any combination of your Joomla! Content Sections, Content Categories, and Content Items, in any order, within any category - and then you get to choose a layout sub-template to display your content.

This should be standard by sstedman, August 28, 2008
I am doing a full CMS assessment for my organization and I would have to say that this functionality is the only feature holding Joomla back from being able to handle large sites. Why is this not built in to Joomla? Why is this not ready to use with 1.5?

It seems like a glaring oversight to limit content to just 2 levels.

Good Joomla component by ssnobben, July 6, 2008
This is a really nice component for Joomla and we all hope that someone take this to the next level for the Joomla 1.5 framework.

This is one solution for structuring content hierarchy in a better way!

Fantastic! You saved me $100! by lucianreign, February 9, 2008
This was just the component I was looking for. I am designing a International School site in Malaysia and this is perfect for the curriculum pages that require multiple tiers and sublevels regarding courses and school departments.

Well Done!

needs documentation, examples by Pixelate, December 14, 2007
It might be a great component, but without examples or particularly step-by-step documentation it's useless.
It's unrealistic to expect people to try using it without any indication of what things do or mean.
- is this a layout tool or way to present a category page or ?
- what is a subtemplate?
- what is a subtemplate - document, directory, default ?
- can it be used to create a custom page or frontpage layout with content from different sections / categories?

Unclear how it's different than existing layout options for sections or categories?

I thought it would allow for multiple page layouts, in particular so I could create a custom frontpage, but it's unclear if that's possible or not.

How can you guys publish a component without any info on how to use it or even what it can or can't do?

This is awesome! by rbennett, November 15, 2007
I have to admit, this is awesome! Its the best thing since sliced bread I cant even begin to explain the flexibility of this component! Very well done!

Incredible THANKYOU THANKYOU!! by kaety, September 17, 2007
Wow!!!

I was looking for help with a content rich and complicated content site and thought - oh there must be something to help me and then I found this!

And to think I almost paid $49 for a different ext that only does half of this!!

It is truly like the others have said a whole new world of Joomla content management!

This is going on all my larger Joomla Sites

Thankyou Thankyou

THANK YOU!!!

Wow! by tekyn, August 26, 2007
This component will be the #1 install on all of my websites from this point forward. This is the level of flexibility I have been wanting/needing for my content!

For anyone looking to have ultimate control on their content hierarchy and display within Joomla, look no further.

sub-templates don't work by jazzbird, August 26, 2007

well I can see that this extension has potential, but so far I cannot get it to do anything useful. Why the tendency to come up with joomla extensions with lousy or no documentation? I'm just trying to display a table of content items, but to no avail. Either it displays the intro text or not at all. Choosing sub-templates displays unpredictable results. Don't understand connection between deep pocket category, file folders, content. Documentation seriously wanting!

What a great extension! by Thissel, August 24, 2007
This extension has so much potential and was much needed in the community because of the lack of control Joomla itself gives you, when it comes to customizing the content design.

I do however have one major problem. I usually use a lot of different modules and components to link between my content items (eg. minifrontpage, most popular, newsflash...) and as far as I can see, there is no way to get other extensions to link to content items through Deeppockets. I am right or have I missed something?

I Want to Like It, But... by Video Savant, August 8, 2007

There's no documentation and no support. It seems that documentation was supposedly in the works, but if it's available, I can't find it anywhere. I also tried to get some questions answered via the support forum, and both of my questions went unanswered for more than a week.

I get the impression that development resources for this application are stretched, and that the focus is fixing known issues and adding new features. But really, what's the point of fixing or building something that has no documentation and no apparent intention to provide reasonable support?

I'm new to Joomla, so it's quite possible that my existing knowledge level is just too low to grasp the obvious utility and intuitiveness of Deep Pockets II. In other words, I recognize that the problem might be just me.

But I'm sincerely bummed out that I can't do more with this extension, particularly when I read how exciting it is by more accomplished web site builders.

Hopefully I'm wrong about this application, and if so, I'd be happy to revise my review and rating at a later date.

Very good extension. by Sunesha, July 17, 2007

I really love this extension. It makes deeper sites that handle different subjects very good. As joomla basic package doesnt handle sub categories.

Only drawbacks that are big to me. You cant search Deep pockets if you dont use joomla created items. Bigger sites become more powerful if the users can search the subject.

Related items module doesnt support this extension. Same go for latest items and popular items.

You cant publish a deeppocket item on the frontpage.

outdated style by biophonc, June 18, 2007

I've downloaded and installed (DeepPockets.2.0-003) it but tons of notices appeared (very annoying), then I opened up the files to fix it but I saw massive use of wrong code. The developer used undefined constants as keys, but actually the constants are no constants but just meant to be keys. So I've search+replaced all that. Then I've noticed that sometimes HTML is in upper-case Letters and sometimes not and that is imho an outdated and inconsistent style. Also I've found stuff like ($var .= 'some string';) which is no good, because you do not append something on a non-existent variable. A php developer may use error_reporting(E_ALL), to avoid annoying notices/errors.

below the line I will not use it, because the developer has proved that he/she has no knowledge of up to date/modern coding. So if you are looking for some state of the art component - look somewhere else.

freedom to structure your information by buddhi, June 17, 2007
you can create multiple levels of categories and make a single item appear in multiple categories without making a duplicate. (helps saving time and reducing the errors in your content)

i wanted have that functionality in a website i was developing and luckily i came across this superb software.

a feature i wish that joomla gonna be shipped with...!

promissing concept - allows finest site structuring by pintopalot, June 12, 2007
build any content structure with ease and overcomes joomlas limited "static content" vs. "section / categorized" content model;
