Best forum component by pcwiz, May 3, 2008

Excellent forum component, great features, whats there not to like?

awesome! by wis3crack, April 24, 2008

You cant even imagine how powerful this component is, this will enable you to run a full featured forum within your Joomla site!

After installing it, I was totally amazed by its features. It provides almost everything that a phpbb forum can offer.

Salute to the developers.
Keep up the good work!

Seems great at first... by maliwik, April 23, 2008

I must say, when I first installed this forum, I was amazed at how well it looked and the amount of controls you're able to customize with it.

But after toying with it and setting up the forum the way I wanted it, I ran into many problems.

The first MAJOR problem that I ran into was of their Permission layout. If you need to set certain forums only visible by certain user levels, then you'll be severely disappointed as the impression I got from it was excruciatingly irritating. First of all, setting individual permissions is based on front-end and back-end access, meaning you NEED to set both a front-end access level AND a back-end access level, even if you want to just make a forum accessible only by, say, managers.
I've spent at least 4 hours trying to figure out how to restrict access to certain groups, but failed miserably after trying every last option. I also noticed some major inconsistencies. For example, I set a forum to be accessible by Author on front-end and Manager on back-end. I logged in on my author user and the forum didn't show up. I tried changing the access on the user to Manager and it still didn't show up. I then decided to try changing the front-end user level to Registered. That made the forum show up for registered users, but that's not what I wanted it to do. When I changed the front-end access level on the forum back to Author, I was surprised the forum still showing up for my plain registered user, and every attempt I made at trying to hide it from registered users (aside from deleting the forum and remaking it) failed. I imagine that this is a bug within the programming as I haven't seen inconsistencies like that with any other component I've used.

Another issue I've run into was the ranking system. You cannot edit current ranks nor can you delete current ranks. The only way to get rid of an existing rank is by logging into MySQL and manually dropping it from the table.

My final complaint about this is their lack of dedicated support on their website. I have come across virtually no documentation on how to operate it. I also have tried asking questions on their forum and have not gotten responses back. I noticed, too, that other people have experienced poor support in relation to this component, and have heard of people's posts getting deleted on their forums, obvious bugs being dismissed as user-error, etc.

I've finally given up on making this forum work efficiently, and am trying other solutions.

On a final note, I can say that it's a very robust component with many features and I can tell that the developers of it put a lot of time and effort into making it. But as for maintaining it and supporting its users, I would have to think otherwise.

I'm finally writing a review after using fireboard for a year. This is the best forum for Joomla - I think it has such huge potential and is really powerful. The support in the community is great too.

So far so good by unprintabledun, April 6, 2008
It's nice to have a native joomla forum, we switched from smf which while it had a lot of features was always a pain to keep it working right when either joomla or smf updated now fireboard is promising to fill the gap, it doesnt have as many features and it has a few bugs but it is my favorite forum for joomla

I needed a small, site specific forum and got fireboard up and running, even configured in under 10 minutes. How excellent! Works perfectly for my needs.

Really cool and usefull by diego, April 3, 2008

I find this forum a really good product...
1. His layout appears cool and ordered in the same time
2.If you want to do a thing, you find what you're looking for exactly where you watch
3.I find the traslation for my language (italian) fastly...
4.I control forum life without any problem...

I suggest everybody use it!

Looking good, but lacks good documentation by ThePrutser, March 31, 2008

All the reviews sound very promising. The install is pretty straight forward, and looks very promising also. But the documentation lacks big time.

I am not a noob to Joomla, but I am having all kinds of problems to configure and succesfully create this forum. So my hopes were set on the documentation, but unfortunately it lacks good explanation of how to setup this forum.

So then I started looking in the forum, but the reactions there were not to friendly and also not very helpful. It really bugs me if I have to search the internet for just a simple initial setup of a component.

This could have been an excellent plugin, but as the documentation is crap it doesn't live up to that expectation (from my point of view).

Excellent Forum by bignellrp, March 30, 2008
The best forum i've found for ease of use, ease of installation and integration with community builder and my various different joomla templates.

A problem I had with many other forums is layout, as my template uses a left hand menu bar. Fireboard integrated really well with all the different templates i tried.

So far so good. I downloaded, installed and set up this forum last night and everything is going great. I had to give up on Vanilla as it kept giving me errors. I'm glad it did.

Dissapointed by lou1975, March 17, 2008
This listing says that the component is compatible with 1.5 in legacy mode but I have been unable to get this working on my site.
I have researched the forum & found that others are suffering the same problems without solutions. (For example smileys are not working)
After spending 3 hours on this I must give up.

Please advise that compatibility with 1.5 is not stable to save us time!

So far, so good by SIGHUP, March 15, 2008
Like I said, so far, so good.

Its a really nice continuation of joomlaboard. I am currently using J! 1.5 Stable and works great.

So far so Great! by mike9999, February 25, 2008

The one question I had is how this software laid out with my template, would I have to make a template for this, put a wrapper around it? How would it work with my sites users.

I made a site for a small group (A fire company) and the forum will be private for about 60 users.

I made the leap and installed this software in 2 minutes after a slight permissions issue (my servers fault) but Fireboard told me what went wrong and what I had to fix (move a couple image files)

I went right to components in j1.5 and it was there and worked great, went in and put a menu item to it and it was on my site. I changed the color to what I wanted and thats it.

It picks up my joomla users automatically when they post to the forum and uses the joomla login.
