An alternative to the Core-Syndicate-Component. You could create various feeds for your site. Every feed can contain items from the categories you’d like.Documentation is available in German: http://www.run-digital.com/mehr_zum_rss_feed_manager_2.html

Works very well by kaz101, July 7, 2008
I was struggling with DS syndicate and couldn't get that to work on all the feeds when I decided to give RSS Feed Manager a try after reading the reviews.

It's simple to install but I wasn't sure about how to create the modules to run it but the help of others who have posted in the review (a BIG thank you to the guys at websitebydesign.com.au since their blog post was excellent).
I've now got all my feeds up and running and showing ALL the posts I expected.

It's so much easier than some of the other RSS feeders since you can choose what categories to put in and which ones to exclude.

Works in 1.5RC3 Legacy by tgryffyn, April 20, 2008

Great little addon for creating RSS feeds. Nothing too fancy and automated, but does the job well.

I was desperate for a decent RSS feed creator for Joomla 1.5RC3 so tried this on a whim and it worked in Legacy mode.

Haven't tested it 100% yet, but looks good so far. Can't find anything wrong with it under 1.5RC3 Legacy.

Thanks again for the great addon!

Good, but problem with garbage urls by absolutelytrue, March 16, 2008
As someone else commented earlier, this component is great except for one thing unfortunately is major.

You can see the garbage url problem in the feed here:
http://rational-outrage.com/index.php?option=com_rd_rss&id=3

If this could be fixed this would be an excellent component, even one I'd pay money for, however, unless this url issue can be resolved I am going to have to find some other rss solution.

Well, it works... by qazwart, February 21, 2008

It does work, and I do use it, but the website is entirely in German, and it comes with no instructions.

Installation was easy enough: Standard Component installation, and I figured out how to create a feed. But, then how do I get this feed on my frontpage?

Thanks to WBD for the help (see URL below):

http://www.websitesbydesign.com.au/blog/2007/12/06/getting-joomla-rd_rss-component-working/

It does only RSS 2.0 feeds (unlike the Syndicate module that does five different feeds), and you have to create your own module, and then wrap the RSS URL into HTML code. You also have to get an RSS feed icon too. (Fortunately, Joomla! comes with one and you can access it via http:///images/M_images/rss20.gif).

One the plus side, it does allow you to pick and choose which categories you want to include in your feed. Plus, you can create multiple feeds -- each with their own mixture of categories. For example, you could have a "blog" feed vs. a "picture of the day" feed, vs. another feed that includes everything. And, as WBD shows, since it doesn't create a front end for you, you're free to design it anyway you'd like.

easy and simple ! by freddie1980, January 20, 2008

Finally got it working OK by wbd, December 5, 2007

Spent a fair bit of time looking through others' experiences with RD_RSS and finally got it working to my satisfaction after some initial struggles.

Quite a few others have indicated that there is little or no documented instructions (or developer support) as to how to get this component working correctly, so I put together the steps I took to get it working the way I needed. While I can't guarantee success for others, this is what worked for me and it may help someone else who is struggling initially with getting the component configured correctly.

Very good extension, possible bug? by nietaki, August 3, 2007
Very good extention, easy to use, I like the option of choosing categories to create rss from. It only lacks a module showing the rss icon as link in the menu, but everybody can do it themselves... If you are not sure, go for RSS Feed Manager!

Only one thing: I had problems with polish characters and already started messing with the files, but it turned out that if you turn chache off everything is alright.
Maby it's my fault, my joomla was upgraded from mambo and went through pretty much...

Support? by cuervo, July 23, 2007
I guess it does do what its states, unfortunately it doesnt say anything about what feeds it publishes and which ones dont. As far as I could tell it only publishes feeds from the front page but unlike the syndication thingy that comes already with joomla this one lets you decide which categories get published and which ones dont but they still have to be on the front page. But off course you cant know that until you try it since all the documentation is in german and what little description there is in english doesnt say much. As far as it goes it works and its easy to implement(you need to make a custom module with the rss link for it to work and publish that module)

nice one ;) by bzsolt, July 21, 2007
Thanks for the author!

Although took me a while to figure out how the hell I will publish this RSS on my site (not explained on the German site neither - I speak German).

So for those newbies like me: paste the links you find in the admin/components/RD RSS in your browser and everything will become crystal clear :)

I'm glad I found this by mikej1256, June 9, 2007
I know this item is old, but I installed it and it works. Thanks to Floating Worlds comment I got it working in minutes. Although I may have been missing something, none of the other rss programs added all the content from just one section/category to a feed. This worked perfectly, I just copied the resulting feed url into a html mod I had a published it. As for the daily updating comment, my rssreader takes care of downloading the new content items.

Flawless! Absolutely Flawless! by khellhound, May 10, 2007
I can't say more - The easiest RSS Syndication extension I've found.

Great Stuff! by stell, April 23, 2007

Just what i need by Zorro1966, April 13, 2007

This work for me, i didn't found a RSS manager who lets me choose to only show the latest feeds of all contents i have. It's a pitty there is no module where i can put this in the right side of my website. I use now only the link witch has been created by this component.

Is there anybody who made a module with pictures to show it? I now use it as a menu option, but would it too show on another place.

Greetings Michel

Sigh. i can't get this thing to update a feed by frazelle09, March 9, 2007

i tried going to the Homepage, but it's in German! i've got my feed set up and it inputted the first time, but i can't find any documentation on how to get it to update, like once a day. i'm going to have to search for a little more robust program.

Little by little.

Have a great day! :)

Time for the bot? by ndtreviv, February 15, 2007

I thought this component was fantastic. Totally what I needed.
I found it was missing a valuable mambot: an rss button includer.

So, I've written one. IF anyone wants it, just email me. I tried to submit it to the owners of this component, but I can't read German and so couldn't really navigate their site. Sorry.

It works by putting {rssfeedbutton}ID{/rssfeedbutton} in your content, where ID is the ID of the feed.

It creates an RSS image-button, which links to that feed.
If I'm barking up the wrong tree, please forgive me.
