com_album is a nice, simple to use, Joomla component for viewing and managing your photo album. It supports view, movies, slide-show, upload, auto-tumbnail, comments and rotate functions. Managing is done from the front-end, managing is possible for Joomla users with editing rights (or higher) I write it while software like Gallery is much to complex Download it, or check for the latest release at http://breedveld.net Enjoy it, Roland Breedveld

Simple but hard :-s by Bluebair, April 6, 2008

If it wasn't for 2 issues, this would be the perfect component for me, simple to use, even for users to upload pics, and easy to manage the albums.
I have been working with coppermine, ugm,... there is just to much to go around, this one does what it should, and nothing more.
One problem however is installation. Doesn't seem to be that simple. At first I was unable to upload any files. Seems you have to manually create the Base-dir "images/Albums"...
Now files do upload but don't show up in my album. Seems the component is going to stay on my testing server.
Also because of my second problem, this slideshow seems to each time reload the whole site? I can't really see because I don't have pics in my album.
So, simple concept but hard to get up and running. Not out of the box.
Another downside is that there is no installation guide or support forum, might be a good tip...
With some improvements, it could be just what I needed.

It serves my purpose by kicohea, November 19, 2007

The setup is strange to me but once I got my directories setup it worked great. It's nothing fancy but it certainly serves my purposes - provide a relatively easy way inside joomla for user picture uploads and display.
I tried the bridging software and frankly didn't care for it - it felt too much like a kludge.

Eureka, I have found it! by Grizz, September 5, 2007

My needs are rudimentary - to have an easy-to-use, Joomla!-friendly Component that produces an oustandingly simple solution to managing Albums and Pictures from an Adminstrator's perspective, whilst at the same time giving my 'simpleton' Visitors (lol!) an easy way to upload their images.
No complicated bridges, no stress, no error messages, no bologne; just super-easy configurable, effective code that works. Sure, go ahead and pull your hair out with those fancy stand-alone Gallery's trying to bed them into your Joomla! site. Rest easy, com_album is the perfect choice when it comes to simplicity in design and use, but with the power to ignite a Community of online 'simpletons' eager to share with ease.
Well done Roland, I commend you!

Sorry Still not Working by prakalp, June 1, 2007

Hi!!
Having read all the reviews, I downloaded the laest release as recommended. However the component is still not up and running out of the box. Perhaps there are some dependencies which are not defined.

Worked well, but... by thelizardreborn, May 31, 2007

This extension installed quickly and easily, and was relatively simple to use.
Downside is the files weren't available to mosimage, and trying to tweak the component to put them in the right place resulted in albums no longer getting created in galleries.

not working, shame, it looks nice. by georgeh, May 28, 2007

installed fine, but just a edit/view and number of columns selection box shows but nothing else, does not crash out or give page not found - just does not work. I am running Joomla on a windows based server.

Great Little Photo Album Component by richm, May 27, 2007

Does exactly as advertised. Originally, I installed 1.20beta and had a problem (with a language file), BUT the developers answered emails immediately sending me 1.21 which fixed my problem. Works slick. I am hoping that they will add a lightbox viewer for the slideshow down the road.

Helaas means to bad...
I installed and everything was fine intill i logged in to the front panel as admin and tried to make an album, when i chose 'edit', the page could not be found.
Better luck next time, Owner's reply: Hi think you use a domain with directory name, this is solved in the 1.20 release, beta is downloadable now

Some instructions would be helpful
Publishing from the frontend seems a bit backwards but workable.
I was looking for the feature on the frontend to create or upload some pictures but couldnt see anything. I choose edit thinking that it was the right place and the album fell over.
Unless i'm missing something it's not going to last very long on my demo server. Owner's reply: you can try the new 1.20beta release, this will solve some problemens
