I got to tell you I have tried almost every SEO component out there for Joomla but this one Rocks !!

Just upload and Install the component and thats it ! I did not even have to do anything to the .htaccess file. I have many other extensions installed like SOBI and others, they are all SEO friendly with my Joomla site.

This component gives you god-like control over your site, urls, redirects, htaccess (or not) and many other things but you'd better hope it works perfectly the first time you install (which mine did) and that it doesn't cause problems later (which mine also did). My home page immediately went from +/- 6 seconds to load to almost 20 seconds. By the time I disabled sh404SEF a few weeks later, my home page load time was well over a minute. I tried clearing caches and settings for an hour - even tried reinstalling. I'll try again if I can't find a simpler alternative (all I need are human-friendly URLs) but first I'll have to go get a computer sciences degree.

sh404SEF installed without any problems on Joomla 1.5.1 running in legacy mode. It started working immediately. Best thing - the support is superb! Virtually instant response by email - highly recommended.

This is an excellent extension. I would second the feature request mentioned by others to be able to use the section and category alias in the URL.

After using this component I'm thoroughly blown away by how easy it was to implement for such a sophisticated function it has to perform. I didn't have to touch my .htaccess file. This has to be one of the best, and well needed components I've seen for Joomla, and very well needed. All I had to do is tweak a couple of the URL's to prevent duplicates and its all good. It worked right outta the box with SOBI, Fireboard, CB and EZRealty... I'm a happy camper!

Installed easily, works perfectly with no tinkering. It's the only SEF component I've found that works with both SOBI and Fireboard, the 2 components I can't live without.

I used to use OpenSEF, but since it seems to have been abandoned, I needed something else. Which is OK because it never worked with Fireboard.....

I am VERY impressed with this extension - kudos to the author, and thank you!

Of all the SEFs out there this component is the best i've used so far. It works with Joomla 1.5 and does everything you could ask for. There is only one slight problem with the RSS Feeds and the title headings only showing up as the mainpage.
Also some browsers wont even open up the rss feed because the doc is probably malformed.

Is there a known problem? Is there a fix available or in the works?

MAN, this is HORRIBLE

I have had nothing but extreme horrible difficulties trying to get this to work on my joomla 1.5 website

I have a 1.0.5 website and it works fine

I have tried to get this component to work on my 1.5 for days.I have read the documentation UP AND DOWN & have done everything it said like 10+ times.... I get NOTHING but 404 errors, I never see a page, its a 404 page right of the bat

Sorry you had trouble. People are usually running sh404SEF on J 1.5 without any problem. As you probably know by now, getting 404s is not related to the SEF component you use, but either to the way you have set up your .htaccess file, or to your web server, if using the "without .htaccess file" mode.

Well, I couldnt imagine that a component could do this. I have all my URLs rewritten within minutes.

I use sh404SEF , don't now what else to say than that it works great for me, i am using Mambo 4.6.2 and it works great! Keep on the good... mistake! Keep on the GREAT work!

-select without (default) or with mod_rewrite on .htacess file

This review would have recommended SH404SEF as an excellent product if for some unknown reason the SH404SEF product hadn't suddenly decided to stop working. The site was one that had lain untouched for a few weeks when it decided to refer to pages that were unknown and then generated php database errors. It was not my joomla site that was causing errors, it was the SH404SEF... I tried everything I could but it would not work. I uninstalled it and turned off cache-ing and the site was running again, although without SEF optimised URLs.

I installed Artio SEF which is a very similar product with a similar front end, SEF was back on again. I had to pay £9 for the commercial Virtuemart extension. That in itself had a few problems during the installation and configuring but once it was upgraded it worked a treat.

I need SEF for my site. I thought that SH404SEF was a very good product but for me it has caused a serious website problem which I could not hang around to fix. I had previously abandoned SH404SEF on another site when I could not get it to install and run correctly, no matter what I tried. I think I will be installing Artio's JoomSEF product from now on.

SH404SEF is good but it has a few flaws, the review states the product is average because of these flaws.

Also you said "I uninstalled it and turned off cache-ing". That is two things you changed (sh404SEF does not do pagecaching). Do you know which one solved the problem ?
