[Now also for Joomla 1.5!] sh404SEF rewrites Joomla URL to a more user-friendly format (SEF URL or URL rewriting): mysite.com/index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=69&id=34... becomes mysite.com/en/sh404SEF-and-url-rewriting/list-of-available-plugins.html). It is also a security component and manages title and meta tags : automatic tags, or manual for every page. It works with or without .htaccess file. Fully Joomfish compatible. Caching system for high speed and very small DB queries overhead. Support many components natively but uses also sef_ext from OpenSEF/SEF Advanced. VirtueMart, Fireboard, Community Builder, mosetsTree, HotProperty, Sobi2, Docman, myBlog, iJoomla Magazine,News Portal, Remository and more supported natively. SSL switch, automatic 301 redirection from non-sef to sef and from Joomla SEF to sh404SEF, insert Google news style numerical ID,.. Many backend parameters to control URL construction behavior.

| Best SEF-Component for Joomla! by schneekuh, December 1, 2007 |

1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
First I take OpenSEF and ArtioSEF and have many problems with double URLs, configuring nice SEFs for other Compontents and big Sites getting very slow with OpenSEF.
I change to sh404 and the sun is shining again :-)
No double URLs, generate excellent SEFs for Components like VirtueMart, Cache-Funktion on board.
THANKS FOR EXCELLENT WORK! Donation is coming soon.

Wow ... I actually got this system to work with Gallery 2. But what I did was upload sef_ext.php and then turn off SEF for that component. I know, it sounds like sh404SEF isn't really doing anything at that point -- it's allowing G2 to do its own SEF without messing it up -- something JoomSEF didn't allow. And no advertising for tire stores in third world countries in my Meta tags, either. Woohoo! Thanks, sh404SEF.

| Installing for first use by DazzleIT, November 23, 2007 |

At Last!! Finally found a component that allows me to have named urls instead of the other joomla default, which is rubbish.
Easy to install and set up although I am still having a problem getting to grips with the shCustomtags, I just can't seem to understand how it works? Can any one help??
But I have to say Im very pleased with this component, well done to you shumisha. Owner's reply: Hi DazzleIT,
I suggest you post on the support forum (link is in control panel in sh404SEF backend) for assistance in putting shCustomTags to work!

| sh404SEF problems by Ardandil, November 23, 2007 |

I can't be absolutly sure, but sh404sef seems to have crashed my Joomla powered site. After my newly set up website had been running perfectly for two weeks Joomla suddenly started to show only blank pages every so often. I found out that clearing the cached sef-URLs solved this problem instantly. But after some while Joomla would show only blank pages yet again. So I kept clearing the URL-cache over and over again to keep my site running. As I couldn't solve this problem I had to uninstall sh404sef. That didn't help much either. Still Joomla produces blank pages very often. But I found out that this now must have to do with Joomla's caching: Joomla seems to produce new pages only into the cache but not onto the screen whereas reloading shows the page. Turnig the Cache off ends up with blank screens only.
I will give sh404sef another try as soon as it is labeled 'stable'. As yet I don't want to rate this component. Owner's reply: Hi Ardandil,
If you are still experiencing these problems with sh404SEF uninstalled, it is fair to assume they are unrelated I think. Did you check your error log file for errors ?

WOW! Tried opensef and artiosef before, got lot of problems which could be solved with knowledge and a lot time. Installed sh404sed out of the box and went 15 pages up on main keyword with the next google update.
Note; The custom tags module doesn't work properly in combination with PageCache as far as I know. For now I go for findability in stead of speed.

| I thought SEF was difficult by jeffhoneyager, November 20, 2007 |
|
Everything I read about Joomla and SEF required knowing the .htaccess file, core hacks (scary), ...
I had some time and thought I'd try out sh404SEF. A couple of clicks later - it worked! There are so many options - maybe I'll get to those later. Now lets see if it really matters on the search engines...
BEWARE - some components may not work. For example, after about an hour poking and forum-ing. I found that JCE (my editor of choice) must be changed to work with sh404SEF and Submit Content (or MyContent). The URL setting in the JCE config needed to be changed to absolute URL not relative URLs. That is an example of some tweaking that may be required.
I recommend sh404SEF.

This is a excellent extension. I installed it without any problems on two of my sites. There was a problem with the third which turned out to be the host! No names!
I also have to say the support from Yannick deserves my utmost respect for professionalism and time taken to solve an issue I had not due to his extension.
Will be keeping an eye on more of his products.
FANTASTIC

| Just used in 2 virtumart stores, worked in 1. by Unhindered, November 9, 2007 |
|
Cannot work with virtuemart products that are listed in multiple categories!
Just did my first 2 virtuemart websites and wanted a SEF extension. sh404 worked well for 1 site, but not for the second.
On the second site, products are often in multiple categories. sh404SEF pulls the new URL from the database, but links to the first loaded category.
Example:
Product: Nokia cell phone
Categories: Cell Phones, Electronics
If the Electronics page is visited first, the URL for the product, no matter where it is linked from, will load the product page showing the category of Electronics. But, because 'Cell Phones' is the first category listed in the database, the URL will be
/cell-phones/nokia-cell-phone
and will load the page
Electronics > Nokia Cell Phone
On my product detail pages, I have the category image display, and it's not good to view a category ( "Cell Phones" in this example), then click on a "Cell Phones" product and be taken to a page in a different category ("Electronics") in this example.
So.. It still works, but now I have to create duplicate, triplicate or more listings for every product that is listed in multiple categories. Owner's reply: Hi,
WHat you are doing is generating duplicate content, and sh404SEF tries to avoid it with its default settings. Have you tried simply activating insertion of category id in URL ? THat should make your URL unique, so you'll have the category you like (but two or more URL leading to the same content)
Regards
