Well, what can i say.
I started using this extension back on 1.0.x, and it worked almost immediately in a perfect manner. the developer and the community he developed answered all my questions, which weren't probably the easiest as i use a non-lating chars rtl language.
nevertheless, all my questions were answered super-quickly, all problems solved, google loves my site, urls look really good. I found sef extensions to any joomla extension i could think of...
thanks for making it so dynamic and powerful, and yet all so simple and friendly... |

Amazing Tool, within five minutes my entire site url rewritten - even some legacy one's which doesn't support SEF.

a fantastic component let down by a small flaw, the url rewrite inserts the category name into the image url breaking all images on your site inserted by tinyMCE, also all hyperlinks get the same treatment.
the forum support people say there is no fault with their product which is the worst kind of thing you want to hear, everything is joomlas fault and nothing is the fault of sh404sef.
a great product so close to perfect but idiots behind the wheel.
don't waste your time if you are getting clients to update their website! they need knowledge of how to directly edit html and enter absolute url's (still doesn't fix the hyperlinks) and forget forum support they'll tell you to fix it yourself!
uninstall for me...... a shame. Owner's reply: I don't see how what you want to hear alter reality of the facts. So, again : there is no flaw in sh404sef in that matter. I have taken the time to explain that to you in details on the forum, and yet you still don't seem to understand. Other people have understood before , and they simply change one single setting in JCE or TinyMCE, so that everything works. It would be the same with Joomla sef and all other extensions. Your customer do not need to know anything about html. There are tens of thousands of people using TinyMCE or JCE with sh404sef, including myself, and we don't have problems with images. As for being an idiot, I think you've made enough of a fool of yourself with this review that I don't need arguing on that. |

First of all I love this component. But a little alert to keep in mind if you move your site to another domain (for example using Joomlapak).
If a .haccess file already exists in the new site, make sure you overwrite it with the .htaccess site you have moved it from.
I had a case where the .htaccess file would not let itself be overwritten and (of course) sh404SEF did not work. I got a bunch of 404 errors. Not sure what was going on I finally opened the .htacess file and it was blank. So I copied and pasted the .htacess file from the prior installation (actually just the default .htaccess file) and it all started working again.
The issue had nothing to do with a bug in sh404SEF, just that the new hosting company had permissions set on the .htacces file set so it could not be overwritten.
I will put this post on the s404SEF forum, but thought it would be helpful to post it here too.

I've searched for a long time to find this useful tool to make a more SEO-friendly Url. The description is long but the effect shows immediately. Only I haven't made quite clear how to use the attached sh404SEF Custom tags module, maybe it will be more help. |

Request: working RSSFACTORY sh404sef plugin. (There is one available at the rssfactory homepage but not working).
404 fix suggestions:
Just an idea; the sh404sef could give suggestions to fix the 404 links. sh404sef could search within working/available links based on text and logic strings to define fix suggestion.

Not so convinced the URL's are "better" or more SEO friendly, but the security features alone are more than worth the while. Anything that puts up more kevlar against sql injection attacks, and other robot exploits, is good medicine in my book.
You really have to read the documentation on this extension, or you'll have problems getting it smoothed in - I did. But after following some good online info, got it up & going no problem.

This is a very powerful tool. But there are a few bugs about compatibility with other extensions. Like: after turning on sh404SEF, it gives 404 page not found error for forum jump (forum categories).
Surprisingly, the support is very poor for such a powerful extension. First check the support forum to confirm my claim. |

i am a complete noob when it comes to joomla and everything, but i really wanted to have cleaner and easier urls, for my artciles for example. I found this and tried a few times but it didn't work. I then read the FAQs and instructions and it was up and running very quickly!!

I ahve tried this component several times over the months on several sites. And I can never get it to work, I have to disabled it after ten minutes because I can't have a site down for that long. Wish there was something simpler. |

This component is simply excellent.
I have been using it for a while or various install and joomla version and it always work.
And when something does not work, you can rest assure that you'll find the answer in the forum or have the dev answering you directly and quickly.

I like the way it makes my site look like a "standard" html site and not like a CMS generated site.
I have however noticed something rather worrying to me. Only pages of my site not using a sh404SEF rewritten URLs (I have disabled sh404SEF on my contact and FAQ pages, as it screws these up) are indexed by Google.
I hope there's something I did not config correctly, because otherwise this item should be reanmed to sh404? |

What's Good?
You get to have tidy urls which are better than many of the alternatives
The recent upgrade allows you to have more than 1 SEF url per content item if you so choose
What's not so good?
It screws with contact forms both Joomla default and other forms so they are are totally useless.
Forum response is variable
Some URLS created don't like - or _ in their title for no reason and so you can't maintain any consistency as a result Owner's reply: Hi Yerg
