It's a good start by alaoa, July 27, 2008
i like this component however there are two limitations that will keep me from using it for now. One there is not community builder integration. The second and the biggest limitation is that there is not way to define your custom fields. Other than that this component has potential.

This is a solid component by admin.dre, January 25, 2008

Although the author of this component does not update this page, his site is regularly updated with new releases and modules to support this component. Although it is not in english. I recommend this to anyone who needs a recipe component for their site and is unable to pay for a commercial one. The available search bot works very well and really integrates this component nicely into your site. It is easy to install and get up and running in minutes.

Looking Good! by mudputty, December 14, 2007
I find this one better than Ricettario. I can't foot the bill of $60 for the commercial ones, so I have been looking at Gary's and Ricettario. Gary's seems to have great development going on and the program has worked so far with no glitches. It installed very easily, and worked right "Out of the Box".

I am using Gary's now on my website, and I am very pleased so far. I look forward to additional development. Keep your eye on this one. It has some great potential.

Buggy by jonz, October 25, 2007

After spending a day working with both Ricettario and Gary's cookbook, I unfortunately have to say that neither is a very useful tool and both are extremely buggy.

Ricettario is very limited, without a searchbot and only allowing a fixed (14) ingredients.

Gary's cookbook is horribly buggy. In version 2.3.3 the frontend editing just straight up doesn't work. In 2.3.4 the frontend editing strips any line feed formatting destroying the readability of your content. The forums are in German only so don't expect any help there (unless you happen to speak German).

Anyway, I'm not trying to complain, just hoping to prevent someone else from wasting a day if they are looking for a finished GPL component.

I'll likely end up with a non joomla php/sql GPL script from sourceforge or something.

A more tasty fork of ricetario by sp00n, June 4, 2007

A very decent fork of the ricetario component which was too bug ridden for me to even begin start using. This component got rid of the limitations of the number of ingredients that can be added by simply adding a text box instead of 10 or so fields. There was a minor bug in the way the backend handled languages but nothing too serious, a fix can be found on the cookbook forum (in german). Which is the only 'downside' if you are looking for help I suppose. An english forum would be helpful.

Also the code has been drenched in charset specific characters which either forces you to replace them with a more sane character or changing the default characterset of php via .htaccess. I opted to sanatize the usage (mostly in language files and some hardcoded stuff here and there) of it a bit so the presentation looks a bit better.

Other than that I would say this is a very nice and usable component and would recommend it to anyone looking for means of keeping recipes on their site.

Bon apetit,
