JW Media Manager XTD: the Joomla! photoshop!
*** Now in version 1.2, including online zip extraction functionality ***

The Joomla! backend media manager redefined!

Hold your breath now! The features!

The "JW Media Manager XTD" admin component...

- Allows browsing of any file type on ANY folder. You just setup the root folder path. You can browse the default images/stories folder or you can set it to browse your whole Joomla! site!
- Upload ANY file type you want, multiple simultaneous upload possible. Next version will be enhanced with an AJAX uploader for even more uploads and asynchronously, to avoid timeouts.
- Copy, move, rename, delete ANY file type or folder. Images, word documents, videos... you name it. The JW Media Manager XTD handles all file types and displays an appropriate filetype icon when browsing.
- Extract .zip files to any folder you want.
- Image preview using Slimbox, permits grouped preview for all images. Slick thumb image reflection is added as well to ease your eye while browsing your images!
- FLV Video and SWF preview using Videobox (lightbox for videos). You can now use JW Media Manager XTD to preview your SWF banners correctly and of course your FLV videos.
- AJAX Image editing! That's right, you read correctly! It's like having your personal little Photoshop inside Joomla! You can resize, crop, rotate, flip, add borders, add text and do many crazy stuff using the built-in AJAX image editor of JW Media Manager XTD. And best of all? All your editing can be undone and the edited images can be copied under a new name!
- JW Media Manager XTD is 100% free! Are we crazy or what!!??

Using the JW Media Manager XTD means you do not need to have any other desktop imaging software on your computer (or your clients computers). You can edit your images anywhere you like or organize your files directly on the server, with no need for additional software!

Enjoy like mad!

I've been struggling with the idea of letting clients loose with an FTP client and thankfully now I don't need to ! All I wanted was a good file management tool so they can manage their own photos. This is BRILLIANT ! Lovely looking layout, easy to use... perfect. Thanks so much :o)

NO IE SUPPORT! by isigillum, August 21, 2007

JW Media Manger XTD has NO support for Internet Explorer ... MAJOR FLAW! ... there are alot of Devs that use IE7 now with all the new support and MS' new features and capabilities. Sure wish you guys would change your mind on that one. Unitl then, I'll have to use something else, not gonna install another browser for one simple component.

Owner's reply:
v1.1 adds full IE6 and IE7 support. Enjoy!

Looks good, but... by onedeep, July 11, 2007

Been playing with it for a bit, and it is a pretty good extension. One problem though - the supposed lack of IE support

I say "supposed" because this component does in fact work in IE! If you comment out the NOIE section (admin.jwmmxtd.php, lines 570 to 579 and line 690) the actual functionality of a lot of the editing pieces work just fine in IE7. What doesn't work in IE7 is the fluff like reflections and the lightbox functionality. I would rather have functionality in all browsers than the fluff.

And what is seriously ironic is they include mootools, whose main purpose is to provide a cross-platform (including IE) JS library. Actually, looking a bit more into it, both the lightbox and reflection functionality are using scripts freely available from http://www.digitalia.be, and both of which work fine in IE7. So that makes me assume that they purposefully removed the IE functionality to make a statement.

Owner's reply:
Not really, we did not wanna make a statement. However the mootools scripts used are extremely "heavy" for IE to handle. Check how the component behaves with Firefox or Opera. And check with your IE-hacked one. Day to night difference. ;)

IE6/7 has a crappy js processing engine, unfortunately.

Too bad by WEB11, June 15, 2007

There is no front end access. Otherwise its better than the built in media manager.

too slow by lafactory.com, June 9, 2007

I have more than 600 pictures in my "users" folder. since it tries to display thumbmails instead of links/names (I did not see an option to disable it), it fails.

Owner's reply:
v1.2 will feature thumbnail caching to avoid such issues. The component will actually "borrow" the same technique used in our commercial plugin, Simple Image Gallery PRO to achieve that.

Iexplorer ? by Swoot, June 6, 2007

not works internet explorer

Owner's reply:
Seems you haven't read the above description, IE is not supported! Try a different standards-based browser! Cause we really don't care for IE, since this is an admin component. Especially when we know that the admin CAN use a decent browser to make their life easier... ;)

Like all their components, simply put: AWESOME. What a great component. The standard Media Manager should be replaced with this one!!!
