Joomnik Gallery
Joomnik is a gallery component for Joomla! CMS displaying multiple images of items grouped by albums. Each item has description and up to 10 information fields. In case of multilingual sites, common words can be translated in the component, or Joom!Fish can be used to translate album and item names and descriptions.

Basically it displays all images from an item's folder. An item can be a model, a car, a house or similar "one" object. If one picture changes, it does not require any operation in Joomla!, new picture(s) and their thumbnails can be uploaded via FTP and that's it!

You can create folders and upload images (also create thumbnails) from the back end, during album/item creation. Also meta keywords, meta description can be added to the gallery, each album and each item.

Last version has a workaround for session problem, when login screen showed up in back-end, preventing from adding images.
It also should work better in Joomla 1.5, with Legacy mode.

It is still not easier to set up, though.. I'm working on native version for J 1.5, which (hopefully) will be easier to use.

Pain to setup by georgejc, May 18, 2007

Don't want to be the bad guy here, but I spent well over an hour trying to set this thing up. Most of my thumbnails were "off center" and looked really bad. I finally gave up and switched to RSGallery2. Had that one up and running in about 10 minutes without problems

Good but waiting for a next release by horus_68, April 30, 2007

A simple and efficient gallery (thumbnails and image at the same page. Clean install, excellent category and pictures management and upload.
Extra points to the fact that the gallery folder its under stories folder: if you want to use the same images in an content article... this is the (only) gallery for you! And its so smaaaaaalll in kb!

Down:
- It lacks modules (latest pictures, etc) and a plugin to insert in contents.
- Lightbox effects to slide show and/or limit display picture size
- The thumbs should be under different folder (so I can use the same folder with other "in article image plugin" , I mean simpleGallery (now it shows the big pictures and thumbs!)
Than it would be an prime gallery!

This is one of the best galleries I have used for my need, profiling website, though a bit more complex to get it to work but it’s worth it, component has a sample gallery installer to make it easy and the developer is more than helpful and friendly. A gem in slew of gallery components.

Needs improvement by coscooper, November 25, 2006

I struggled quit a bit with this component. I really, really wanted it's functionality of selecting a thumbnail to display a larger image all in one area. However, the setup is way to intensive between the complex folder structure and file naming conventions. Too restrictive for the "casual" user/admin trying to use Joomla. I'm a seasoned joomla administrator and I struggled for over an hour trying to figure it all out following the step by step instructions. Really frustrated me enough to just walk away and remove it.

Needs a lot more flexibility. Many people use lots of images named in a variety of ways. This component forces you to rethink the images and thumbnail names and preparation you'd like to use before attempting to configure it.

Sorry, good idea, bad execution & too complex for the casual user.

As promised by Faeton, November 16, 2006
Joomnik functions as promised. It takes some time to figure out how the hierarchy should be set up. What should be added is a text field with each image and definitely a back button!

Great program by Sacajawea, July 31, 2006
I had no trouble installing the files. The CSS is easily addaptable to your own website specifications. It does exactly what I expect from a gallery.

To be short: I like it!
