Weel RS files are a fine component, but kind of bad to have to write a rewiev in order to recive a code.

Fast and easy as 1-2-3! by e911admin, October 21, 2007

I am brand new to Joomla although I have used PostNuke, Xoops, and others in the past years. The ONLY thing that I had to refer to the documentation for is how to install a Component! That took 30 seconds, and I had a functional File Manager on my site in about 3 minutes. If you are looking for simplicity with ease of use and install, RSFiles is the component you need! Great Job!

Not much good to say. by phalcon, October 5, 2007

Sales page claims there is access to templates. There are none that I can see or find.
Registration process is completely convoluted and non-intuitive. It's a multi-step procedure that requires copy-paste license code into a registration box that allows you to download a different version that allows you to upgrade from their server requiring you to chmod a bunch of folders which all amounts to absolutely no difference except the demo text disappears.
Instructions are poor at best.
Theme is impossible to edit as far as I can tell making it a waste of money if you have a dark background (I do and I just threw away a perfectly good $10 bill).
I cannot recommend this product to anyone.

I am new to joomla and I need a way to let user to download selected files. This component did what I expected straightforwardly and easily.
For my aplication I need different user's group (typically 10+) to have permission to download for their folder. It would be great if there is a way to define more precesily a group of user to access only a specific folder (instead of using public, member and special attribute).
Anyway I recommend strongly this product

This application does exactly what it claims and does it well.
If there was anything that I'd like to see it would be more levels available for read access and download access (ie: instead of just public, registered and special have author, publisher, etc. also.) and perhaps a bit clearer documentation, although it is pretty simple to figure out in just a couple minutes of playing with different features.
Very simple to install, setup and use. I had files online with a template change to add descriptions within 5 minutes.

I'm new to Joomla and CMS's. While setting up my first site I had a need for a file download manager so I can offer files to members and restrict others. I found RSFiles and was a little sceptical that this product was what I was looking for. The description wasn't exactly clear. Then I read someone else's review and tried the demo version. It works GREAT. If you want to offer file downloads on your Joomla site this is the component to get. Easy install and setup. Thanks Joomla and RSJoomla for two great products.

I am very happy with the component. It does everything I need it to do and most importantly, it looks nice. I can edit/add themes or choose from existing themes (that actually look good with my template).
The only thing that I would change is the existing theme with tree structure. I really like this concept, but it doesn't quite work the way I would have hoped. But thats just a personal preference.
All in all, Great job Alex on another fabulous component!

A solid download management extension by m2pilot, September 17, 2007

RS-Files is a solid component for administrative management of downloadable files. The administrator is able to define a list of files, and select on a file by file basis what types of users can see/download the files. There is no provision for user self-management of downloadable files at this time.
Overall the component is straight forward to install and use with a minimum of fuss. A modest license fee is charged. If the fee pays for a little support (which most 'free' components provide in a spotty manner at best) then it will be USD $10 well spent.
There are a few counter-intuitive behaviors to the component. Publish/unpublish for files seems to not be working quite right (unpublished files show up in at least one of the presentation themes). Also, the component insists on displaying a UNIX-style parent folder link (..) even when the root of the download directory structure is being shown.
Nonetheless, a perfectly worth-while component which actually works.

Simple file management by stephfox, September 16, 2007

I needed a simple file management tool, with the ability to control groups and access. I downloaded the trial of RSFiles, and was able to create a download directory quickly, then apply all the group permissions I'd already set up using JACL Plus without having to do anything extra in RSFiles.
It all took about 10 minutes, and now it's working just fine.
I'm very impressed, and recommend this component highly for anyone who's looking for a very simple method for controlling file downloads.

Best Download Component by MHLF2, September 13, 2007

Well, I also tested all components for downloads and RSFiles! was best. If you've a lot of downloads you don't have to submit every single download - just upload it to the right directory and here you go.
The structure of the download page is clear and easy to change. But I also have a suggestion for you: you should really make the module multilingual since there's no good multilingual download component yet (I don't mean the module ONLY, I mean the descriptions, too).
If you need help with the german translation I could help you...

A decent component which handles the problem of a downloads manager in a clean, efficient way. Intuitive to use, and customizeable, it's definately one of the better download modules I've explored. I recommend you take a look for yourself!
