I've spent a large amount of time using this extension for the past 6 months and while there are many things I would love to see added, I think it's fair to say this is by far the best option available to people wanting to share large amounts of music w/in Joomla. I hope this is still being actively worked on and look forward to future updates.

I actually dissent with some of the harsh opinions recently submitted.
The component has still margin to improve, no doubt, but what has been accomplished so far suffices the needs of most muisc collectors.
Provided that one does not regard it as a streaming tool, it sports a wealth of organizational features that empower us to arrange and browse a collection through different criteria.
The admin UI is clean, modern, refined, streamlined and quite easy to follow. I didn't need any instructions to find my way through, honestly, neither did i observe any major show stoppers.
I agree that it could be better supported, though when it comes to GPL software we shall be a bit more understanding in our criticism.
In a sum. MusicBox, with some workflow adjustments and bug fixing, will definitely become a mature music collection manager. There's plenty of quality work already accomplished and that is worth encouraging, not bashing (IMO).

great, this component have a potential to conquer a whole of streaming media extension if you make it able to integrate with community concept ;p -
what I want / or maybe what a whole joomla user want from your component is;

1) Integrate with Community Builder profile
2) Register User can make their own category/album/songs/etc
3) Register User can upload their own music file
4) Register User can grab any music to embed on their cb profile
5) and more parameters for administrator

The component still lacks frontend functions

The extension is not well structured. When adding songs of different artists to an album (for a compilation) the extension does not link the artist and the song title.

In fact songs should be linked to artists and at the same time to one or more albums. This does not seem to work in the actual version.

As long as you don't use compilations (album with different artists), MusicBox seems to work fine. Otherwise, don't buy it !

Not only is this thing buggy but there is NO support to be found. Ive visited BOTH sites in search of a forums or support section. There is none. I dunno what these other people are talking about. http://www.joomlaitalia.com Is a joomla extension site, not a Music box site. And the other link says it has a support forum on it. It doesn't. They are both in italian.. which crashes "babble fish" when trying to translate. The whole thing is a waste of time. Too bad since it has so much potential. Only found out the tables and mp3 where bugged after entering 3 hours of artist information.

Version 2.0 is much more appealing than the previous release. I had 1.X on my personal site for several months, but it always seemed visually unpolished. The interface was easy to use, and works for my purpose. 2.0 adds a level of refinement to both the backend and userend. Right now i'm having a bit of a problem because the audio player is not working, instead of allowing song playback it states {play}images/stories/audio/urfile.mp3{/play}. but im sure that it will be resolved.

I wrote a review previously stating some issues I had, and to date all those issues have been resolved with the help of the Author. A great component which will continue to grow. Some have expressed an interest in assisting with the future growth of this component and they should in the first instance visit the forum at luscarpa.eu and note their interest.

All in all a great component.

it's really hard to find such good as this component

i looked so far for something like that but i couldn't ind as good as this

i tried it in my localhost server in my pc and it workes with great effeciency, i really was surprised with it's arrangement and cpanel

it's video and mp3 player are very nice

but i think that there must be a Download button shows for registered users besides the Player On The Song
to Be a complete music portal as small bands & DJ's can spread there songs and work on their websites
it'll be really great that they have somthing like that and will suits all p

it's definatly the best for a Music Portal website

this is an interesting component, and i can see some potential for it, but it's not really useful to me without a frontend that my users can easly submit artist/mp3s to.

if this option was added, i'd give it a A+. but until then...

I must say that is probably the best component I've found...
It have a lot of features... easy to install and manage... the perfect tool for creating a music community!!!

Many of us run Joomla online communities using Community Builder, and in many cases, most of the potential users of music box and the uploaders of music will already be site members.

Clearly, MB would be an attractive benefit from membership and the ability to integrate that with a user's community builder profile for artists / bandmembers would be awesome. At the minute, the user is entering their data twice and no link back to their community profile that I can find.

We do understand that English is not the forst language of the developer and some of the instructions are unclear.

I will be willing to help with tidying up some of the language issues and instructions if the developer thinks this would be useful.

I have been looking for an audio file manager to setup a music portal, for ages. I think I test quite everything opensource from Drupal solutions, to Top Music for PHP Nuke and of course Joomla extentions.
I have to say the team has done a wonderful job regarding to the other solutions on the market. This is a robust platform with a nice interface and a really smart way to organize tracks/albums, etc...

With some more improvements such as:
* Evoluated permissions (eg: the possibility to give the right to listen to the tracks for guest and listen/download for registered users.)
* MCE Editor for textarea such as label description, artists description, etc...

This can be the definite tool for music portal, and can answer a lot of needs of the growing musical web market by providing a solid opensource solution.

You have all my support.

I have nothing but praise for this application.... I have ran into problems but that was quickly addressed by the Author..This is a solid application for MP3 and video playback with a concept that is unique and quite different from others......
I am no Joomla Garu but I did find the Program easy to work with..

I think this is a really good system.
Just some part I don't agree to it.
It is where the Lyrics Manager, this function is really funny, I believe the lyric function should be link with the song, and not a separate section, this break the flow of music browsing.

Once you are at the album level, you don't have the lyric anymore, also some of the artist had more then 300 songs, when you click the lyric link, this will be a heavy load, and presentation is not good.

I think the lyric should be a field within the song.
Maybe adding another icon in the front to show the lyric.

I love the idea of this component and would easily pay for the use of it. I have an issue though trying to add songs since it seems to not allow me to do so. I get songs LOCKED and then cannot do anything with them. I have installed this com on two different sites both with different hosting companies and still cannot get it to work properly.
I very rarely write a review but this com is going to be so great I just had to. PLease do not take this as a negative comment, simply a request to remove the problems that i have found.
