This is a "rescue" of the popular OpenSEF component which has since been abandoned by its developers. The current version is an exact copy of the latest OpenSEF release.

Broke my site immediately after installing. After 2 hours of trying to repair what this component had done, I ended up restoring an recent backup.... 4 hours lost.

There is NO documentation and no support. Use at your own risk.

Magnificent by davib, January 4, 2008
Guys, thanks heaps for this extension. It not only works well but is easy to figure out even without Documentation.

Great SEF , But I quit using it by pintobuck, December 17, 2007

I absolutely love most of NuSEF (used to be called Open-SEF).
The feature set is great! Very easy to use.

However, as my website got bigger (5000+ pages), my website took a long time to load when NuSEF was turned on.
NuSEF turned on = 4X longer to load than when NuSEF is turned off.
This is on a shared server at a very big Service Provider.

Memory usage increased above the standard 32MB limit allocated by shared servers to my account. I had to allocate 64MB via .htaccess file in order to get my page to load.

All of these problems went away when I turned NuSEF off.
So, reluctantly, I am switching to a different SEF component.

Switching your SEF on a mature website can be very costly, since some of your URLs will change, and that can cause you to lose a lot of previous SEO work. It can worsen your Search Engine page position and reduce your traffic. It is important to chose the right SEF component early in the life of your site.

Simple, easy, effective. You need no more than that. by WookieGTB, October 27, 2007

Installed, up and running in 5 minutes. This is after spending two hours trying to get the inbuilt Joomla SEO working. It also includes Google SiteMap creation now. Brilliant.

Satisfied but missing support by frankyboy, October 4, 2007
I am using OpenSEF and I am very satisfied. It is a pitty that there does not seem to be a community to ask questions when you face problems.

I did a patch to have it work with Joom!Fish languages but I can't find anything about that patch anymore.

One problem I have is that the Joomla search function does not work with it. The found url's have regular Joomla urls and you get the message that you are not allowed to see them. Any solution to this?

Good, but with wrinkles by jeremyD, August 20, 2007
Good to see this has been picked up by somebody. I've used several of the SEF components but found this to be the best of the bunch. One of the things I like is the ability to "flatten" the URL structure by dropping the section element out.
Some plug in components need special configuration files (and sometimes don't even work properly then) which you need to watch for.
For most sites its a nice and easy to setup and configure, and altogether does what its supposed to.

This is the Best SEF Component! by WCZone, July 6, 2007

I have tried all the other SEF components here (except Advanced SEF). This one works great! I really hope folks will begin developing it again. I JoomSef and JPromoter gave me some problems, but this one worked great with no issues. (I use it in combination with the Joomla SEF component from Joomlaequipment so I can modify headers, etc.). You will love this component!

Good, but buggy by serr.biz, June 25, 2007

I've used OpenSef on a couple sites, and it's ok. Where it's most lacking is 2 areas.

1) Though it allows for custom SEF urls for any page, it get's confused when accessing content items through modules like latest news, etc. I think this is a core Joomla problem. Joomla creates different URLS for the same content item depending on how you navigate to it. It's very odd.

The issue with this is duplicate content. Google penalizes sites for "duplicate" content. So, after a page is published, you have to go back and manually fix the other URLS that are created. It's an extreme time waster.

2) In addition to custom urls, good SEO requires hand coded meta data. The only way we found to do this with OpenSEF was to use SEF Patch. It would be nice if these things all were merged into one, and the core issue of Joomla creating duplicate content was resolved.

In the mean time, we will continue to use OpenSEF and SEF patch combined as so far that's been the best solution we can find.

Great to see someone pick this up. I have found it a little confusing at 1st, but when you don't read the manual what do you expect. Helps me control multiple ids, good extension to have.

Amazing component by raydale, June 24, 2007
Simply the best SEO component I have found! Great to see it re-surface, a big thanks for that.

With this component you can delve into as much detail as you want with SEO on a site. Or, you can just enable the basic paramaters and you are good to go with very little work, although spending more time will pay dividends in the long run.
