JUGA is Joomla component that allows you to set what is available to which users on both your Front-end AND Administrator Control Panel. It is NOT A HACK (like JACL); it is NOT ENCODED (like cACL). JUGA installs and uninstalls *easily* as a component. To activate/de-activate it, just install and publish/unpublish the JUGA Plugin/Mambot. And we believe in leaving our source code open for you to modify as you wish.
With JUGA, you can assign users to multiple groups. In fact, you can create an infinite number of new groups, so you could assign a single user to a unique group, thereby achieving customized individual access rights for each user.
After installing JUGA, merely synchronize it with your site's components and content. Then tell JUGA which variables it should restrict for each component (in the case of Fireboard, for example, you would tell JUGA: "func", "catid", "task", "id", etc). Then, define which items each group has access to. After assigning users to JUGA groups, activate the Plugin/Mambot and voila! It works the exact same way for your back-end.
We have released a modified version of the Joomla! Main Menu Module. It has been modified to work with JUGA->Groups and hides menu items from view when a user doesn't have access to them.
We also have a JUGA Content Plugin/Mambot. Now you can show certain portions of a content item to any/none/some/all JUGA->Groups. It works like JHide and RokAccess.
We also have an admin-side template for Joomla! 1.0 that extends JUGA's controls over your J!1.0 Admin Control Panel. This template isn't necessary for J!1.5 as the JUGA System Plugin will already control the admin-side for you.
Finally, we also have mod_hiddenbyjuga, a JUGA Module that allows you to HIDE MODULES based on the user's JUGA Group!

This component was just what I was looking for, and after reading all the previous reviews decided to buy it. Installation was no problem, however for a relative novice in website development, I found the component complex and confusing in places.
The one thing I learned however , from reading the reviews and from the developers of JUGA themselves, was to make sure I read the manual and other instructions carefully before I started configuring the component. It was good advice, and it took me several hours to get to grips with it, and boy, it was worth the wait. I now have a 'member's site’ completely hidden within the main site, allowing paying members access to a wealth of information and services, the viewing public not only don't have access to, but can't see either.
But that’s not all, because if there is one thing that turns good software into great software, is the quality of customer service and support. In JUGA’s case it was exceptional. I had a couple of small problems, one of which was caused by my own ignorance, so I submitted a support ticket asking for help. A flurry of responses followed, and within a very short space of time, the problems were solved. The people at Dioscouri even adapted a configuration variable to accommodate another component I was using on the site and applied it themselves. Customer support doesn’t come much better than that.
I already use another of their components – Billets and have had similar experiences with them, in that prompt helpful support is always forthcoming.
JUGA is an excellent component, backed by excellent support , and I strongly recommend it to anyone thinking of restricting access to users on their site.
Well done guys and thanks again for all your help.

An excellent product from a great company! Worth every dollar and unlike most of the sites listed here these guys actually provide customer support.
Discouri have set a high benchmark for all the other providers of Joomla extensions to match up to in my opinion and they are well worth a visit.

| The control is in your hand by LocaLiceR, August 13, 2008 |

We all know that the access control lacks in Joomla! 1.5.x. The admin interface of JUGA can be easily understood, so you can create new groups very easily, assign users to these groups, or even add your own components to JUGA. Well, the control of your site is in your hand.

| Its a feature worth to pay for by phiamo, August 12, 2008 |
|
This Extension really does not require much to get it working! Its quite simple to install and gives me a lot of features i wanted and which arent provided by j1.5! Together with its plugins und third party plugins (like auto add to group) it is very powerful! At first i thought it should be in joomla, and i do not wanna pay for, but after all i think it worth the money at all. the best thing is support, if you use this extension a lot in beginning of your membership, you get excellent and fast support for all your problems! after that starting period i think you know what to do and where problems arise.
So finally like this, it woks you have to pay for support and get an excellent and needed extention.

| Complex but nice by bluefire77, August 12, 2008 |

Well, i'm not to sharp when it comes to PHP and Joomla is far beyond my understanding. JUGA is no exception and is very complex. i suggest reading all the manules and FAQs and forums before getting deep into JUGA. they do offer a free version for 1.0 only, but if your like me, its worth the paid support. They use a message board like system to help you which is somewhat slow. but in the end i got what i needed. they have good customer support and although this program is big and complex, it can do alot for you and i think its worth it. it works great with AEC, just make sure your not using JALC or your screwed, lol

| A perfect match for Joomla 1.5 and ACLs by MasterC, August 8, 2008 |
|
Joomla is a good tool for creating large websites. But it lacks decent group support. JUGA takes Joomla from good to great!
JUGA provides us a way to allow our users to have access over specific sections of the website, specific articles, and only certain functions such as edit or view.
If you aren't sure on how to use something they provide excellent documentation. For those who need a little bit more instruction get very fast, very accurate help from their support system. It is real people helping you, not a robot repeating documentation you have already read.
JUGA is by far a necessity on any Joomla site needing ACL-like / Group support.

Excellent support and a fantastic tool. Yes, I wish it was a bit easier to work with but I read the documentation and I actually love the way it works! - complicated that it may be. Well worth the money. Do it. Buy it now!

| Good by itself, but useless in conjunction with other modules by vinbrendel, June 25, 2008 |
|
I have evaluated JUGA and am not going to use it because our needs for security are not that strong. The plugin itself is good (spend 10 minutes reading the instructions, it will save you hours) and offers extreme flexibility in group management.
The problem for us is it does not integrate with other modules we will be using such as sitemap, download manager. They do provide their own mainmenu component but the built-in Joomla search will find all documents, regardless of JUGA access level. Owner's reply: Thanks for the review! Yes, the built-in Joomla Search component will find all documents and list them in the search results. But, when the user clicks on a content article from the search results that he/she doesn't have access to, JUGA will not let them see the document.
To prevent restricted items from appearing in the search results at all would require a re-write of the search component. We're releasing our API so that this can be accomplished by any interested parties. We may also release one ourselves similar to the mod_mainmenu alternative we released. Thanks!

| Good extension and excellent support by homersimpson, June 24, 2008 |

The extension is easy to install. It takes a little bit of effort to understand and configure but there are some really tutorials on the Dioscouri website. The extension will do what we need it to do which is good but I have to say that the support from Dioscouri is absolutely incredible. I had some issues in the beginning but they stayed with me and helped every step of the way. They went way beyond what I normally expect from companies today. My only wish is that they wrote more extensions.

I would highly recommend this component for anyone wanting to restrict access to content items, menu's or modules in their joomla website. Installation is quick and simple - there are getting started instructions on the authors website - which enable you to get up and running in no time at all. Support is also very quick if you run in to any hitches. Highly recommended

So far, I'm very happy with this product. Their support team is very helpful when you post a support ticket, always responding in a prompt fashion.
With it, I'm able to expand the number of user groups on my site, show/hide menu items based on what group a user is in, and add/remove users to/from groups based upon submitting forms.
Very useful and I don't regret purchasing this product at all. Well worth it.

| Works for Just About Everything by lwheelr, June 14, 2008 |

JUGA just works. It is somewhat time consuming to set up, and you do have to set permissions for everything, but it is extremely powerful, with many options for how you control content or backend access.
Nearly all the complaints I had about it have been addressed in the new release.
Well worth paying for.

For what I wanted to do (just hide some menu items in the back-end for a single user) this was a pretty complicated way to go. I really struggled with the concept of how the whole system worked initially, but now that it is working I can see the enormous power that the system has. A quick start guide would be nice, just to get you going as I found the manual quite difficult to comprehend.
I also expected in the back-end to only see what I wanted to see, instead all the menu's are there, just access to them is restricted. Though this is preferable to hacking Joomla core code I believe.
Though - that being said it was worth paying for the subscription. When I gave up (turns out dummy here hadn't turned the plug-in on) I contacted the support guys at Juga. The logged in and configured it for me. Very friendly helpful support. I highly recommend them and their product.

I've to implement a homepage for our village. And we would like to dispatch the work of creating content to different people. Therefore I need a component to create more groups and permissions as Joomla provides by default. And Juga was the best choice for that. At the beginning I had some problems with my site because I don't use the frontpage as entry point of the site. But the guys from dioscouri.com helped me very fast and in an excellent manner!!! Thanks a lot! Great job done!
