we installed this component and it worked. What else (and better) can you say about such a great and free component?
This is, what Website-Developers love... a working component without any problems and difficulties during the installation and the live period on the own website!
The only issue is in the moment, that I have sent for testing it one email (it worked perfect) and directly after this I wanted to send another email. But the programm told me, that it canīt send this second email.
Is this behaviour because of a timelimit in the component (like antispam) or whatīs the reason for it? Maybe after a few hours I am able to send the next emails? And if there is a timelimit, where can I manipulate it?

Hi,
This tool is really good for dummies like us. We just started with joomla three days ago and this is the best things we've ever seen.
We have download it and install it in few minutes.
However, I have a little problem.
There is a message written before the tool:
Notice: Undefined variable: lista in C:\Sites\Single19\lanathomas\webroot\joomla\components\com_recommendfriends\recommendfriends.php on line 108
And we don't know if this is like with this component or with our web server or something else...
Great job. Owner's reply: I see the possible problem - with the component (but never heard of it before). You could add the variable initialization to line 91 of the recommendfriends.php file - just add $lista = ""; to the end of the line and your done!

This is by far the best recommend component I have used. I am no Joomla newbie but I am no programming expert therefore I search for components that require minimal or no changes at all.
I only translated the language in the FrontEnd to spanish, installed the component and it all worked right our of the bat. Still have more tests to run but so far it all works perfectly!

From all recommend modules I tested, this is, probably, the best one. I like it because it has many options to customize the form and, especially, the Captcha System.
But I noticed a problem issue in all modules, like this one, Iīve been testing:
Hotmail detects as spam every invitation email sended from this modules. Although all great features of this module, this is a big problem. Using my admin email or an email with the same domain as the server doesn`t work to.
How to fix this?

A couple other users have the Hotmail problem as well. I've found a couple possible reasons through Google searches and I think it is more of a Hotmail issue than with Joomla!

**'Any mail sent to Hotmail, MSN, AOL, Yahoo that is tagged "bulk" as from a list server, or that has multiple CC or BBC recipients will wind up in their respective junk mail folders. Unless you white list (or 'approve') the sending domain, group and/or sending email address that will continue to happen.'

Other than an issue I had with the color selector portion (did not show colors but the box popped up) - this is exactly what I was looking for. Was able to perfectly blend it into my website, and I am able to add my own message to the people getting the message... :-) Great job, and keep up the good work! |

You have to take the older posts in the comments for this component with a grain of salt because they were written before the new release of v1.75. What can I say? It's absolutely sweet! If I could give it 10 stars, I would.
I installed this component and love the way it matches the background of my Replicant based web site. Very smooth operation and gets the job done efficiently and elegantly.
The only hitch was my discovery of a bug where the component crashed as I was entering text into the outgoing message field in the component admin form.
After checking a few things and getting a quick response from Don at D-Mack Media, we discovered that I had used some double quotes (") within the text of my outgoing message - something the script apparently didn't like.
I started over and reinstalled the component, this time staying away from using the double quotes, and everything works like a charm. (Don is working right now on a fix for that minor glitch.)
I love the customization that is possible and it has a wealth of options to choose from so you can easily modify how the component looks and feels.
I have used some referral scripts on other sites in the past, but they pale in comparison to this outstanding piece of work. I understand that Don is also working on a future version that will allow the use of HTML email messaging and I very much look forward to that nice addition.
Kudos to Don and the folks at D-Mack Media for a great product along with quick, courteous support when I needed it. They've hit this one out of the park. Keep up the good work! |

I use Jommla 1.1.3 and a couple of other components and modules, installation went smooth, everything seems to be working OK, i have send, 1, and even the 4 recommendations at a time with no problem, all of them arrived OK to the mailbox, thanks to the developer it is a great component.
The problem i am facing is not related to the component but to the lack of knowledge i have to adap it to my needs, i would like to change all the text in Recommend Our Site to Your Friends! to oher language than English, but i do not know how to do this, could you drop me a line letting me know in which file do i have to look for to change the text?.

I've tested it and got it to work, but I had to turn off the captcha tool as it doesn't show the picture. Perhaps if you can send me the images across I can add them in manually and get it to work. Captcha will be vital; without it it's not going to work for me.
Hey, but it is free after all! ;) Owner's reply: Sorry you're having problems! There actually aren't any 'images' I can send you because they are dynamically created every time the page loads.

Don't know why the Captcha won't work for you - sounds like maybe you don't have the GD Image Library enabled on your server...

You can check this in Joomla! in Admin under the System->System Info menu - go to the PHP tab and scroll down to the GD section and see if it is enabled, what version you have, if free type, jpg and png are enabled, etc.

This is a great little component. Others try to be different and end up being complicated. This is very easy to install, set-up and use.

Using default settings, non site members cannot send recommendations. component ask for "at least one email" even when you entered one email already. seems to be looking for senders email.
Users must be registered and logged in for the emails to appear from the sender and not from your site admin.
personal message field dose not appear in email. user receives blank email.
needs work but looks like it could be good. Owner's reply: Hi Ford Prefect,
I am aware of the problems you have presented and am working on correcting all the issues. I will be changing the mailout function to the Joomla mosMail function so that should fix the blank email problems and I also have a fix so that non-registered (Public) users can recommend your site.

The installation went through smoothly. Then when tried to send email, cc to sender, the emails to recipients and sender were empty but the email that came to site owner is perfect. There must be something wrong with emails that go to the recipients and sender. Anyway, thanks for sharing this extension. Owner's reply: I will look into this and try to figure out the problem... |

This component looks good in both the frontend and the backend. I played with it for about an hour and could not get it to send any text except the mail subject. I tried every imaginable configuration but it just does not send the body of the mail. In outlook, outlook express and thunder-bird nothing. When receiving the mail with googlemail I would get an attachment that was not formatted in any way at all and some of the words were not in the right place. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling to use the default settings but to no avail! Owner's reply: Hi, I just uploaded a new version of the RecommendFriends component (v1.5). I made a few adjustments that may help. Could you please try installing again to see if it works.
I am very interested in getting this to work for most of the community as there does seem to be a lack of usable 'recommend a friend' comonents/modules for joomla.
