This is a small but handy Mambo/Joomla component that will allow your users to resize their digital image before uploading the file to your web site. Server space and bandwidth is like gold these days. By using Image Resizer to 'downsize' a digital image before up-loading it will save you valuable time. Not to mention, your database will thank you by not crashing from all the bloated digital images it's trying to manage.

Updated version, 2.5.0a now supports file 'extensions' in either upper of lower case.

Nifty tool with some flaws by mrhandley, February 13, 2008
This is a really nifty tool that with a few tweaks could be excellent.

#1 Doesnt support CAPS in file types such as filename.JPG
This gives an error message stating "filetype not supported"

#2 If a user tries to convert an image that is larger than maximum upload size set in php.ini all the user gets is a completely blank page. It should be an error page stationg maximum upload file size instead.

#3 Why not display the maximum upload file size on the converter page directly? I´m no wizkid but shoudn´t it be possible to extract that from the PHP variables?

Otherwise a great tool that does exactly what it says. It converts the imagesize of the pic.
With issue #1 and #2 corrected I would give it an exellent rating instead!

The newest version 2.5.0a now supports filename 'extensions' that are either upper or lower case. Thanks for bringing this to our attention and thanks to user, Nick T for the code revision.

Outstanding gem of a widget for Community Portals by Grizz, September 8, 2007
Why is this hiding away under the 'Miscellaneous' category?

In my view, this has to be one of the simplist, most effective and useful Modules available for Community portals! A real gem hiding away in this rarely visited section of the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

As good web designers and programmers, we all endeavour to standardise image size to improve the overall look of websites and to free up server space. Members rarely understand this need and get frustrated when we put perceived 'barriers' in their way.

So if you give your Members a clever little site tool like this, one that completely takes the hassle out of complying with these needed restrictions, then you're onto a real winner.

'Internet bureaucracy' like this is an online scourge and this little widget helps greatly to bring the Community and website owners together in a very pragmatic and helpful way.

Confidence, loyalty and appreciation are the hallmarks of an excellent business. This inspirational little widget is no exception and will help to ensure that you exceed the expectations of your Members.

A great job, my fine Joomla! Friend! ;-)

Thanks for the major kudos Grizz... Every effort went into designing a clean and simple application that everyone could use with little to no instructions or hand-holding. Your title "Outstanding gem of a widget for Community Portals" was the very reason Image Resizer was developed. [Digital Access, USA]

Love it by lw_d, August 17, 2007
This is a great little component, my only wish is that it was integrated with one of the Joomla WYSIWYG editors.

Thanks
Lee

Thanks Lee for your kind words. I hope our assistance is getting you the right JCE plug-in to perform this function was helpful.

xml by ddrinkal, August 16, 2007
I had to remove the copyright symbol from your tags in the xml to get it to install at all ...

This is useful but would be better if you could specify a directory to put the converted image into so it was a one step upload, resize and store for a story etc ...

Default could be images/stories but configurable in settings ...

Keep up the good work.

Owner's reply:
With the current version (2.5.0) the © tag in the xml file was replaced with (c). Thanks for the 'heads-up'! Regarding your other comment...currently Image Resizer is not a able to 'upload' to your server. Thus the reason to have your local operating system set the 'save directory' to whatever your current default is.
