Many sites neither need nor want a complex forum, but want instead an easy way for users to communicate. This bare-bones Joomla! 1.5 native forum component allows either user or anonymous posting, linear tiered thread view, and simple CAPTCHA support. It does not include searching, pagination, marked-up posts, profiles, etc. If you want any of those things, you may be better off using one of the more advanced components such as Fireboard or modifying this one. Have fun!

A simple and easy to use component. Great!. I had some initial problems with duplicate response entries that were a product of the version of php that I was using. Cullen's response to addressing the problems was swift and efficient. |

I initially had an issue with installing the extension - my server wasn't using MySql 5.0 , the guys here helped me through this really quickly and efficiently, the forum performs excatly as described, simple, efficiently and effectively. |

This forum is simple but great if that's all you need.
However, any response to a post is duplicated. There is no reply on their forum about fixing this issue. Has anyone worked out how to fix this?

Thanks for this easy forum.I am using Simplest Forum for affiliates to list and comment on new products.Great support from Cullen and easy installation.Would be nice to have raw data in html.

I'd love to see this component - it sounds like exactly what my client needs (simple thread forum) - but every time I upload it, I get a parsing error in the admin/component file and it wont load on the front or back end. Any ideas? Owner's reply: I have updated the component to be compatible with PHP4, which was possible the error that you were experiencing (it was only compatible with PHP5+ prior to this change).
I have also made available a simple CAPTCHA support component.

If you're in the market for a no-frills forum, this might be a little less component than you need.
This component has categories, and messages. And you can't admin the messages. The display can be customized with about 20 lines of css (in my hands) and can be configured to look pretty good. I don't mind the list items so much as I don't like that you have only two levels of display in the message.
I'm looking at extending this component externally. |

Excellent job! Simple, easy setup, but fully css customizable interface. Would love to see the same simplistic component having topics as well. This forum only has forums/posts.
Perhaps we will be seeing more components like this in the future (such as newsletter and profile pages).

It does exactly what it says, a very promising first release. Installed and setup within 20 seconds, very easy.
The only thing I could recommend is a little more work with the forumviews. One html listitem instead of three per message would make it all a lot more readable, and some way to emphasize the messages themselves rather then having the title, date and message displayed identically would be good.
