SQL Dumper is simple solution for backup of your MySQL database. Really easy to work with, highly secured. It doesn't matter how big is the database you want to export or import, this component is able to manage it without any problems. NOTE: All files are saved in administrator/backups/ folder. If you want to restore a (import) a database, the SQL file should be also there. The script is produced by Sypex (Sypex Dumper Lite, distributed under GNU/GPL) and is integrated to Joomla! by Ivo Apostolov.

The features:
- Can export any size database.
- Can import any size database.
- Backups are stored in administrator/backups.
- Backups can be downloaded after creation.
- For security reasons, you need to use your database username and password and to login.
- Much faster than phpMyAdmin and similar tools
- Can work on any host, any port and with any encoding

Please note that the default settings are
Database host: localhost
Database port: 3306
Database encoding: utf8

If you need to change some of this, simply edit the file settings.php.

Very useful. If you have the message : warning 'my_sql_fetchcharray' line 490 in dumper.php = > set the DBNAMES variables in dumper.php.

After installing, it was not obvious (to me) that the config file that needed modification was in the administrator (and not components) directory.

At times the screen changes take an age - up to 10 minutes!! but that is probably an issue with my service provider.

After the teething issues, it works like a charm.

It has a practical and intuitive interface.

I could not get it to work if the login has more than one database associated with it? The drop down is empty.

The login was OK but would be better automated in some way.

Does the job and it works ok for Joomla! 1.5.

Could do with some documentation, but not too difficult to set up.

Would be nice if it had screens to enter config data instead of directly editing the config file, and more meaningful error messages.

For instance this:

"bzopen(): 'wb7' is not a valid mode for bzopen(). Only 'w' and 'r' are supported. (2)"

...means you don't have the BZip2 compressor installed.

Would also be nice to have automatic backup and e-mail the backup file, or auto ftp to off site.

But hey, it's free and it works well.

I am what you can call a noobie when it comes to php and sql. I have been using Joomla for 2 years and knows it's functions well, but I don know anything about coding php. I tried to my best knowledge to export my sql with phpmyadmin, but everytime it came out wrong. With SQL Dumper it worked almost without no worries. The only thing I miss in the script is to set your own sql hostname. I had a hostname that's not localhost, but I was able to edit this in settings.php and it worked flawlessly. Thank you for a great component!

The SQL Dumper 3.1 for Joomla 1.5 does what it advertises well!

I did have to go into the Settings.php to modify the host setting as the localhost does not work when database is not on the same server as Joomla. As a small product enhancement it would be good to pull all the database settings information from Joomla configuration, thereby avoiding the problem.

great tool, but if it can auto send a compressed copy of the MySQL to an email would be even better protection as the data is stored seperately

This backup utility is great and does exactly what it says: creates a backup of the mySQL database and provides the ability to restore.

Not only is this useful as a backup feature but it is also useful if, like me, you have a development version of your site and need to move data back and forth between dev and production.

I have rated this extension as "Good". If it had some kind of scheduled backup facility (e.g. email a weekly backup) then I would have rated it Excellent.

I used the 2.0 version for about a year. It's fast and easy to move a Joomla site with it - just export off the old (automatically compresses to make the size small), then upload and import on the new site.

Nice for backups before making some big change too. So I'm really glad to see version 3.0 released for full 1.5 functionality (no need for legacy mode). Now when I update a site to RC4, I can quick make a backup first, knowing I can recover fast if something goes wrong.
