An ACL Enhancements component for Joomla! to enable you to create new user groups and/or new access levels. It also enables you to assign multiple access levels to user group to make your website items' view access more controllable. Beside these, it also enhance com_content frontend ACL to allow add/edit/publish action control based on user groups for specified sections/categories/content items. Although this is a HACK solution, it will restore your Joomla to default Joomla state if you uninstall it (users in non-default group will be moved to "Registered" group and items with non-default access level will be assigned to "Special" access level).JACL+ is released under GNU/GPL. The difference is that we have "chartered member releases" as earlier access releases for those whom have paid to support us.

Winning team by Dylan1968, November 27, 2006

It's the best. Use it to control who gets to do what. Mix it with AEC for (free|paid) (time-limited|lifetime) memberships and use CB to tie it all together

And basically, you've got the very core of what you need for any Dotcommunity or Dotcompany. Whether you need e-store, forums, classifieds, yellow pages, blogs, photo album, pm, newsletter ... whether you need any or all (yes: all) of the above in any combination, any advanced usr mgmnt scheme starts with the very best winning team .. which, I'll say it again, say it out loud: CB + AEC + JACLPlus !!

So dearest and most valued (CB|AEC|JACLPlus) devs? Any chance on the three of you enjoying a close encounter of the pleasant and productive kind sometime? I would love to see you get together and can only imagine what you could accomplish. Probably something far more exciting than my wildest dreams I guess.

For now you leave me gasping, trying to get my breath back. Exhausted by the passion and still wanting more. Thank you thank you thank you.

Almost Essential by jasonflk, November 15, 2006

I couldn't even mark this down because of the install process. Which isn't a hardship and easy to do if you follow the advice given by other reveiwers.

This seems to do everything I need at present in an easy to understand way. I haven't even looked at any documentation yet.

This worked fine for me. I had no problems installing it. After having a look at the documentation it was also quite easy to learn how to use.

The only negative side to this is that you can't assign certain writes to a specific user. It always has to be to a group. This is no problem if you have a few users.

However if you have lets say 40 different users and you want each one to have their own specific write (eg to edit a certain specific page) then it can be a hassle.

It Works!! by nietianlong, November 8, 2006

I was skeptical when I read some of the reviews, but decided to try it anyway.

Installation gave me a long list of file permissions to change, which was a breeze. After that, I uninstalled the component, then reinstalled it with instant success.

I then started creating the new user groups I wanted. They were immediately accessible where I needed them.

Thanks to the authors for providing this very much needed tool for Joomla!!

Do Not Install if you want to Uninstall Later by palebluedot, September 2, 2006

I just can't believe you have to do a lengthy and painful manual unistall to rid yourself of this product. I highly reccomend installing this to a test site because if you don't like it, you're gonna spend forever and a day removing it from your site. What a pain!

Fed up - Look elsewhere? by welby, August 31, 2006

Having run a site for nearly a year using this component I just like to say that it's like playing cat and mouse with all the updates.

Also if you have components like Community Builder or virtuemart installed, then it gets hard to keep up with the updates to keep these functional and secure.

Byostech usually release a patch for JACL everytime Joomla releases an update. (youll find that you can't log into your backend if you don't update JACLplus). The downside of this that byostech only release the patches to the general public around about 15 days after they release it for their "Fee paying Charted Members".

This means if you wait to upgrade your Joomla and JACLplus at the same time to ensure continuity and security and you are not "Fee paying Charted Member", then you are in serious danger of exposing your site to being hacked.

Yes, I know the answer is Pay up I just feel that Byostech are sitting on the fence in terms of Opensource Ideology. either make JACLplus a commercial product and support it as such or make it truely opensource and stop hiding behind the facade of "Fee Paying Chartered Membership".

It's just one way of generating an income and then not offering the technical support.

My recommendation is to look elsewhere for an alternative product, or better still Joomla should have true ACL support in release 1.5. Please Please!!!!!!

Very nice by davidpbj, August 31, 2006

Still rather noobish at the whole Joomla (I love it!!), but the installation was pretty straight-forward. Like the rater below, I too had to go back and CHMOD (manually in Explorer, lol) all of the affected directories as well as files, so it took me three installations before it was right. No fault of the software, of course. I was wondering if the CHMOD settings in the admin global settings console would have automatically CHMOD'd the required components? Anyways, I love the increased functionality, and would agree that this component should be built into Joomla. Two thumbs up!!

Need automatic upgrading of access levels by victory7777777, August 23, 2006
0 of 1 people find this review helpful:
I found the instructions very confusing but it is really very simple to use. Better instructions and demos would help. In the end it creates levels and access as claimed BUT my issue is i want to have front end user access levels upgraded automatically (rather than manual from backend) as they do things like fill out a questionaire. Then with the upgraded access level they could access more site content. If anyone knows of a component that does this, let me know.
In the meantime it's a 4.5 star for me. Thanks Byos guys!

Installation - How to by seavers, August 14, 2006

Having tried every extension out there, it was clear that JACL
is the only one that seems reasonably secure. I was originally
put off because i couldn't install. Finally, i did, and what an extension! Here's how to install it - for dummies like me:

1. Download latest public release of component.
2. Auto install through Joomla - Install Component.
3. Print out the list of permission errors.
4. Unistall the component.
5. Chmod the files list to 0777.
6. Re-install
7. Print out further list of permission errors.
8. Unistall
9. Chmod the parent folders to 0777 (mine only worked with FTP program. I.e. if the permission error is say /public_html/administrator/index.php and you have already chmod 'ed this file after the first installation, the folder 'administrator' also has to be chmod'ed to 0777.
10. Reinstall.

You now have a essential component!

Perfection! by Bink, August 10, 2006

I'm using version 1.0.10 of Joomla. If you go to the abovementioned homepage you will find the componet version that works with this version.

I did not have any problems installing this component. It is a great addition to the Joomla software.

Thank you for making it and sharing it with us.

Simply put, priceless. by logicred, August 3, 2006

Joomla is SEVERELY lacking in user/group management. To me, this is fundemental in a CMS package. JACLPLUS is incredibly powerful and relitavely straightforward to use. I now have users on my site who can administer ONLY their own content, but can now also publish new content and put it on the front page (all from the front end login). To top that, each user has their own custom 'user menu' which displays when they login (different for each user). SERIOUSLY, if ANY code should be added to Joomla, it should be this. It is FUNDEMENTAL that user management is powerful.

WELL DONE.

1.0.10(Stable) by Lethann, July 21, 2006
0 of 1 people find this review helpful:
If you go to their site and then register (not pay a fee!) you can get the latest PUBLIC version for 1.0.10.

I've installed it with no problems what so ever.

Personally, this should be a core function of Joomla, but that's my personal opinion.

Destroyed my site by weejamer, July 16, 2006

I installed it and then went to my site (without even looking at the admin) and it was gone lost in php errors

I also tried another product from these people and again the site was broken (something to do with the .htaccess file)

I dont recomend this to anyone

After 5 hours of headeache when trying to modify Joomla tables directly, i was able to implement intranet user access levels within a minute. Really worth a try whenever you want to do something more with access levels.
