WikiBot
This Bot integrates the successful opensource CMS Solution, Joomla, with the free Encyclopedia, WikiPedia. When activated [[wikitagged]] words in Joomla contents will become hyperlinked to WikiPedia articles. Note! Wikibot for Joomla 1.5 does now exist (Aug2007). Check plugin homepage or search for Wikibot2 at this site. Version 1.1 (10feb2006) - was extended with International (Fish) support by Nicolas Moyroud, and now links tagged words to correct wiki.language.site or a preferred one specified in the Bot config view. Backward compatible and uses standard wikitagging. Version 1.2 (26feb2006) [[article|linkname]] support. Some wikiarticles have different linksuffixes for the same name and now you can link to correct article without having to display the whole articlename in your article. Backward compatible and uses standard wikitagging. Version 1.3 (28feb2006) [wiktionary:, [[wikiquote:, [[wikisource:, [[wikinews:, [[wikibooks: -support. Backward compatible and uses standard wikitagging. Version 1.3.1 (7apr2006) Wikipedia does not follow ISO standard in the case of using Swedish & Fish. "se" now becomes "sv" and works with the swedish wikipedia... Version 1.4 (15feb2007) "nw:" will result in a new window. Example: [[nw:text]] and [[wiktionary:article|nw:text]]. Version 1.4.1 (15feb2007) A generic bot switch was added to open a new window by default or not. Thank you Holger Mueller! Version 1.4.2 (16feb2007) A bugfix! The 1.3 support was lost in 1.4 & 1.4.1 and is now there again. Version 1.5 (19feb2007) Link color was added as a general switch. Version 1.5.1 (11Jun2007) Bug fix!: Problems experienced when Wikibot is used combined with Google PR. Solution was to add rel="nofollow" to all wikilinked words. Version 1.5.2 (22Jul2007) Wikipedia does not follow ISO standard in the case of using Dutch & Fish. "du" now becomes "nl" and works with the Dutch wikipedia... !!! All further developments and improvements will be made to WikiBot2 for Joomla 1.5. WikiBot for 1.0.x will NOT be further developed - except from bug corrections.

Exactly What was Needed by Artis, August 5, 2008
Using Version 2.1.a
This small extention is fantastic and has helped keep my links to wikipedia in good order.
Very simple to install and configure, and has a broad set of valuable options available; definitely a must if you intend on linking to wikipedia regularly.
Thanks for such a great product!

Actually works! by jonny_eh, January 30, 2008
Fantastic plugin! version 2.0.0 works great in Joomla 1.5.0.

Only recommendation: Have it work in RSS feeds. Right now, if I read an article using an RSS reader, I see the wiki syntax instead of the hyperlinks. It couldn't be too hard to implement... right?

Excellent...!! by balder, August 30, 2007
Just what I was looking for!!! This does everything it says it does, and then some... :=)

Good work!

Nice! by darrin365, August 16, 2007
Does exactly what it says. Simple install and activation. Read the simple instruction on how to implement and you're off and running. Worked with my Mosets Tree component. (Did not work with myBlog component.)

Why didn't someone think of this sooner? by ardation, August 14, 2007
Amazingly simple in it's simplicity. Does exactly what the developer states. Easy to install and integrate into any content text. Surprisingly, locates wikipedia info on just about anything I referenced using the bot. Absolutely superb addition to any joomla! implementation. A "MUST HAVE!"

Simple yet clever & useful by Xevi, June 8, 2007
It could not be easier to install. Many thanks for your excellent addition to JCMS.

using wikibot + joomfish by spectre1, June 3, 2007
Very good extension, indeed.
But I am using several languages on my site. Then, how to configure wikibot for each language?
Bye

Superb bot by gws, February 23, 2007
A really useful bot, within seconds of installing this bot I had reference links to the wikipedia.A very nice bit of coding, well done.

Very nice... by owndao, December 1, 2006
This is a superb tool. I've been looking for a simple way to show term definitions without having to duplicate dictionary entries. The only thing I have a problem with is that the preview screen of the included wysiwyg editor does not show these links as they will appear in the "frontside view." I was scrambling around for a while trying to find documentation because I thought that I was entering the links wrong. A minor problem. The ability to point at our own wiki docs would put the icing on this bot. But, then again, maybe it's there and I can't find the docs on how to do it! ;)

Just Brillian!!! by phil, November 12, 2006
It does what it says on the box with the greatest of ease.

FANTASTIC - easy to use by jackbremer, September 21, 2006
great tool here, recommended...
As other reviewers have mentioned a nice button would be appreciated to insert the [[ tags- often those of us who build the site are not those who then fill it with content, and those who do are often not very computer literate - the words "double square brackets" would make them cringe!

I'm using this on a new site, shown @ http://brain-damage.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=29
I would be interested to know exactly how to link to a certain article though - at the moment, I create the wiki 'tag' and then apply, test the link, and adapt as appropriate - a bit laborious.
Great tool though, fantastic addition to Joomla. ****

Simple, easy to use - excellent by windward, September 3, 2006
This really is one very fine plugin. It adds a nice element to content. Thanks to the author

Excellent. Modded to support private wiki. by dfaulkner, August 9, 2006
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Works as advertised. put something in a [[block]] and you get a link to the appropriate mediawiki search page. Get the name right and be rewarded with an immediate redirect to the page you want.

Two caveats. First, it appears that mediawiki's search stuff changed a while ago when I wasn't paying attention. My own install of mediawiki uses a slightly different search URL syntax. Easy to fix, but it might be worth noting what version of MediaWiki this bot is targeted for.

Second, as I said, I have my own uses for MediaWiki, both in personal and professional life. I would like to be able to wikilink to my own wikis (they're not in the interwiki system). I managed to hack this into the bot, but it would be nice to make that a bit more of a feature than a hack.

Mind you, neither of these points detracts at all from the usefulness of the tool. Excellent work.

good plugin ! by baijianpeng, July 20, 2006
Thank the author for offering such a good mambot !

I had installed it on my website and it really supports Chinese language. Now visitors can click the wiki link and get explanation in Chinese version wikipedia.

I hope new features will be added:

1. Let me choose the color of wiki link. Now the link color is controled by the global CSS file of my template, but I want to give those wiki links a new color such as blue while other links in my website is green.

2. Add wikibot button in the WYSIWYG editor:
so that I can just select the words and click the button, then the [[ symbol will be there sorrounding the words automatically. Of course we need several button to respectively stand for wiktionary and wikipedia and so on.

3. Add wiki logo image in the tip text:
Now when I point to the wikibot link, there will pop-up a text tip says "wikipedia: *** ", but I think there should add a wiki logo along with the text, at least give me the option to add it.

Thank Messiah again.
