Joomla!Vanilla Forum Bridge
For those not know Vanilla Discussion Forum, one word: SWEET. Vanilla is a new kind of web forum With Vanilla we wanted to break the mold created and followed by just about every other forum on the web.
We sat down and thought about what we liked, and more importantly, what we didn't like about web forums.

We wanted emphasis on the discussions rather than the statistics. We wanted to stop using MSN or AIM to send secret messages to other forum members; We wanted to be able to save the common searches. Basically, we wanted the thing to work for us instead of against us. Most importantly we wanted it to be free and we wanted it to run on just about every web server out there.

Vanilla is an open-source, standards-compliant, multi-lingual, fully extensible discussion forum for the web.

J!Vanilla forum bridge is developed to be compatible with Joomla 1.0.x and Vanilla 1.1.4. A automated installer is included with every version of Joomla!Vanilla component; it allow users to install vanilla together joomla! in 3 pretty easy steps. Its probably the easiest and most painless way to get up and running. Just follow the directions and you should not have any major setup issues.

Features
* Vanilla db tables are created in same joomla! database where component is installed
* Existent joomla users are sync with vanilla setup after install
* Allow manage Vanilla Forum from backend
* Changes on Vanilla forum code minimized
* Several Bug fixes

Very clean forum by ijohndoe, July 6, 2008

We tried to lo add it in Joomla version 1 before (old [project) and the installation was very easy.

It has a very clean formatting and other plug-ins for itself as well, like google map.

It also allows me to view rooms that has new messages which I haven't read before.

I hope it will be ready for J!1.5 soon.

Any good forum component for Joomla needs Community Builder integration. I use FireBoard now, which is a great forum. Looking this one over, I can see how I could consider switching, but since CB is so heavily used - I use it on almost every site I build - I have to wait until there is a way to integrate the two before I could switch.

Install was easy done. The login of the site works for the forum too, so users already registered won't have to signup again for just forum. I would give this a try on a non-production install first to 'learn' it and then if all goes well (which is happening) then roll it out in a production site, and of course send money to the author as this will only get better, since it's already good.

Much better than fireboard by dado023, January 29, 2008

Hm well, i just installed this component(bridge), which also includes whole forum installation in itself.
So far so good. I have been crying for additional features like categories access per user group, not sure but i think vanilla can do a lot more than fireboard can.
i wil test it more and come back with some quality feedback

cheers to author of Joomla!Vanilla and Vanilla forum

I put a new site on-line so I tried this component. It took me 3-4 times to install, drop, and reinstall, but it was probably me more then the extension. I wasn't very keen on installing it on the same database as my Joomla install so I opted not to use the bridge. The bridge did work very well, but I am not using it. This forum has extensions that can be installed very easily..., but some have poor coding and caused issues so I was very selective in what I installed. Overall it is a good component and these guys did a lot of work.
